I have nothing but good things to say about them. From the time the receotionist answered the phone, to the time the plumber left. He even word boots in my house before he was about to crawl into the crawl space. As a business owner myself; we all can see a trend of bad attitudes. Not the case with this in town company. They came out in an emergency as promised, the same day. Can't thank them enough for that, and the timely great job. Support local businesses like this.
I live in a high rise building in downtown Detroit. I had a plumbing emergency (so I thought) and Sheldon was able to figure out that I had going on in about two minutes, fixed it in 5, tested it for about 20 just to be thorough and worth the rate. If I could give more stars, I would. I had called three other companies that couldn’t get to me until Saturday. They were busy, but I told them how worried I was and I think her name is Jennifer- Got me right on the schedule they were there in less than an hour. I highly recommend this company for any of your plumbing needs!! Thank you guys so much for fixing my issue so quickly & efficiently!
Had A&J out to address a main drain backup, and I also asked them to take a look at a leaking wash basin drain. Bailey was extremely helpful and took the time to thoroughly identify the issue. He clearly explained each step of the process so I understood exactly what needed to be done. While the cost was more than I initially hoped, you’re paying for the technician’s knowledge and experience, which made it well worth it. Overall, the company was very professional, and I would definitely recommend A&J to a friend.
Do not recommend this company. We had Zach out to “fix” an issue 3 separate times. He ultimately decided it was a city problem and there was a “hard shift at the tap.” We asked for the video to send to the city (which they required) and were told he didn’t record when he put the camera down (??). The city came out and did their own inspection from the main sewer and everything looked fine on their end. We were still having issues so we called Zach back out to take a video to show the city what he found. We were charged nearly $400 (“for him to set the toilet”) for a video that didn’t show anything. He stated where the problem was, the camera would just drop off into the water. The city told us without actual proof there was damage on their end, they couldn’t help us. They recommended we have a clean out installed to get a more accurate video from that, instead of going through our toilet and just assuming 105ft out was the city’s problem. We called A&J for a quote/estimate and spoke to Zach (after a female in the office set up a conference call with him) who said he was busy and would get it sent out later. We never received this. We also asked for the video they sent the city because we were told we’d be emailed a copy and never received it. When we didn’t get that estimate, we called back the following morning and the female who answered said she “heard about that but had to talk to her Office Manager.” Of course, we never got a call back or an email with a estimate or the video we paid to be done. The office ladies there were useless every time we called we were told someone would call us back. We would wait 3+ hours for a call back (for simple questions such as a timeframe we can expect a plumber to come out) before we just called back ourselves. We wasted over $2k with this company to do nothing but give us the runaround. Zach hydrojetted twice and the 2nd time (which was covered under warranty) he had to schedule because it was “too cold to hydrojet.” Only to find out he would come the following day, which was even colder than the day before (??). When he set our toilet the 2nd and 3rd time, it was very sloppily done. The caulk job was awful, he ripped up some of our tile while taking off the caulk one of the times, and it was very wobbly to the point where we had to go in and tighten it later. Moral of the story? SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK ELSEWHERE. We found another company that charged more BUT they were far more professional than A&J ever was. They had a clean out installed and a new video taken within days of our initial call to them. Only to find out the tap does NOT have a hard shift, and A&J did not hydrojet properly which resulted in an even bigger blockage.
They did not send someone for my time window I was given and I’m now thankful. My main drain clogged and caused a backup in my basement. I was initially grateful that a technician could come out on a Sunday. When I called, I clearly explained that the problem was likely root intrusion in my clay pipes and that they needed to bring a snake longer than 50 feet. The technician arrived with only a 50-foot snake and made a minimal attempt. It got the water moving for the moment and I was charged $365 for the snake. He recommended hydro jetting for $1,250. I said I would think about it as I was left unsure about the level of effort to fix the problem by snaking, and I wasn’t ready to shell out more money in the moment. Less than three weeks later, the issue returned with even worse flooding. I called to schedule the hydro jetting and was given a window of 1 to 6 pm. After waiting all afternoon, I called to check the status. The representative, Megan, told me there had been confusion about what I wanted and that they would not be coming that day. Her apology felt insincere, and she implied the confusion was on my end, even though I had been very clear - as the recommendation was written right in my previous invoice that she confirmed. I canceled the appointment and hired another company. They performed a much more thorough snaking, going about 80 feet into the line, removing all the roots, and actually solving the problem for almost half the price. They also said hydro jetting was unnecessary and that the job simply needed to be done with the right equipment. I would not recommend A & J Plumbing. The service was incomplete, communication was poor, and the customer service was disappointing. I am actually very glad they did not show up, even though it caused a stressful day.
