Roto Rooter quickly responded and the website was easy to use. Communication was great, everything from the booking of the appointment online to the phone call that said our technician was on his way. Mario was helpful and quick to service us on a Sunday. They even notified us to check their website and app for any applicable discounts. Thank you!
The plumber came within a hour after the request and conscientiously repaired leaking bathroom valves. It’s great to have plumbing issues resolved right away. Also, I should note, that a different plumber came a few days earlier for a separate issue (to fiix a leaking pipe behind a wall) and again there was expert and meticulous repair. This type of consistency has been standard over several years, even involving more intense tasks than described above, such as rerouting pipes for kitchen and bathroom renovation and sewer line work.
Joseph was amazing! He came the same day and immediately found the problem and helped clean my kitchen sink. He was so friendly and very informative. I will definitely be using his service if needed in the future and highly recommend.
I was having issues with my bathroom sink clogging and decided that I would call Roto Rooter to have them snake the drain. I liked that I was able to schedule a plumber come in and take a look at the problem through their website. My problem is the pricing of the job. I was charged $487 for a job that took only 15 minutes. If I decided not to go with them, it would have been $99 for just them to come out. I understand that travel time is taken into effect, but $487 to snake a drain is way, way too much. The plumber told me that they are independent contractors and that the pricing was the standard rate. I used A-1 Budget Plumbing a couple of months ago and was only charged $200 to snake my bathroom tub and that job took longer. I think I'm going to stick to A-1 Budget from now on. I'm not complaining about the service from Roto Rooter, I'm just complaining about the pricing. You decide on your own, but for me, no more. UPDATE: 12-22-23 - So to update. I received the message below and sent them my info, but all they did was forward the info to the general manager on the island. Don't waste your time. They don't do anything for you.
The technician, Wyatt, was great, and the manager, David, was helpful in arranging for the technician to meet me. The area of dissatisfaction was the interaction with some of the call center and dispatcher personnel. One told me that my description of the issue was incorrect and later disconnected the call. She called back later to inform me that my service request needed to be rescheduled. I rescheduled for a couple of days later, and another representative would not speak after I asked for the status of the job because it was 1 hour and 40 minutes past the time when the technician was supposed to arrive. Although I could hear her typing and clearing her throat, I hung up and called back. This time, although the call was picked up, she did not speak at all. I asked to be transferred to the dispatcher, and again, although I could hear her typing and clearing her throat, she did not speak. I hung up and fortunately reached the manager at another published number for Roto-Rooter. Although I am a longtime customer of Roto-Rooter, I am considering looking for another plumber in the future to save time and avoid this kind of interaction when scheduling service.
Working with Roto-Rooter has been the lowlight of my last year and is seemingly an ongoing nightmare. I called at noon on Saturday and given a 4 hour window. At 2 I was called and told it would be a few more hours, I asked "should I call another plumber?" and "can I be assured they would come the same night?" I was told they would be able to make it to me and I shouldn't call anyone - I had no toilet. At 3 I was told a plumber was on the way. At 3:30 I was told that they had a family emergency, and that the next plumber would be done his job in roughly 1 hour and was a 30 minute drive away. At 6 I was called and told no one was coming. In that same call I was told that I would be helped "first thing in the morning" but also given an 8-12 window! If I am the first person to be dispatched to, why wouldn't the time be 8:00 AM? I was given a $50 credit. I had no toilet for the night. On Sunday I didn't hear anything. I called at 8:30 and was told no one with the appropriate skill set had checked in yet. That person would be in at 9. I heard nothing at 9. I called at 9:30 to speak with a manager and customer service had to request dispatch to send someone. Management provided me with an extra $50 credit ($100 total). I got the call at 10 that they were on their way. Two plumbers arrived ~10:45 AM. The two plumbers seemingly arbitrarily quoted my fee. They were aware of the $100 credit and quoted me at $1100 plus parts and labor. When asked how long it would take they said 3-4 hours. It ended up taking 3 hours but is the going rate $183 per hour!? ($1100/6 working hours) There was a wood casing around the wall where the toilet goes. I was told this needed to be cut into. When cutting a hole was created through the floor to the outside. They "patched" it with spare wood but it literally looks as though it's filled with assorted rubble they found. Upon installing the toilet they admitted that it actually didn't need to be cut at all! The dimensions of the toilet did not overlap with the dimensions of the casing. They did take my old toilet away - which was not originally quoted. They did not include any sort of warranty on the work because the pipe was old! This overall was the worst service I have received as a homeowner and general consumer. I felt constantly mislead and then robbed by the exorbitant price! I was supposed to be without a toilet for 4 hours tops. Instead it was over 25. When the plumbers did arrive they knew I would have paid anything because I needed it fixed and they were there! After filling out their online customer service I heard nothing back and instead reached out to the Office Manager Brandy about my issues with their service. She told me she'd get back to me within a day. Two weeks later I reached out and she connected me with the GM Troy. Troy's approach to customer service was insulting. He blamed everything on me! Some of the highlights of our conversation include: · The market rate is $300 per hour (they charged me $1100 for 3 hours) · It's so expensive because plumbers go through same schooling as doctors (they still drilled a hole through my floor) · Not the only plumbing company, we have other options (dispatch assured me I would be serviced that night, their website claims 24/7 service) He told me he would follow up by EOB the next day. Two days later I get an email that they are going to send me $200 - which noted above is just the amount they overcharged me - "rather than have someone walk back up my driveway." No fault admitted, just Roto-Rooter's laziness. I eventually had to battle this through my credit card. This was the worst service I have received as a customer of any company. Save yourself the headache and take your business elsewhere.
This review is for the service my aunty received on August 24, 2020. My cousin's toilet was leaking very badly from the base and we knew it was probably a wax seal that needed changing. Since it was urgent, my aunty called Roto Rooter because they alway come quickly and do a good job. She trusted them because in the past they did good work and were efficient. She told the person on the phone that the toilet probably needed a new wax ring so please make sure the technician brings two wax rings with him in case the other toilet's can be fixed too and they said ok they will fixt both toilets She also asked if she could get her kitchen sink faucet fixed because it drips. They said sure. She was extremely nervous about having somebody come over because of the Covid situation but since the toilet was leaking and it was emergency, she want to fix the sink too and also replace the wax seal for the 2nd toilet for safety since it was the same age as the leaking one. The plumber arrived and came to look at the toilet. He right away agreed it needed a wax ring but said he didn't have one with him. He looked at kitchen faucet and told my aunt that it is old and ugly so she should just buy a new one and call him back to install it later. Then he said, okay...when do you want to schedule the servicing? My aunty almost started crying because the toilet was leaking badly and she was freaked out that the neighbors below would get damage. She also took off work to be there. She really needed the service done immediately which is why she called Roto Rooter instead of waiting for her usual plumber who charges way less. The technician reluctantly agreed to go to City Mill to buy 2 wax rings and come back to do the work. He said he would do the kitchen sink another time after she went out and bought a new faucet. He seemed very annoyed that she wanted the toilets fixed right away instead of taking his suggestion of buying new faucet first. He acted like he was doing her a huge favor by agreeing to come back the same day that she actually scheduled the service for. It took him over an hour to go get the wax ring and come back. It cost over $950 to change the rings and took less than an hour to install. The guy didn't realize that my cousin and I were there the entire time in another room. We heard him talking to my aunty in a very condescending way. He thought she was not very bright and easy to take advantage of probably since she older and polite even though she upset. The only reason we didn't confront him was because the toilet needed fixing badly and we also were in online class for distance learning and can't leave the computer. So he thought she was home all alone. The main reason I'm writing this review now is because of what I just found out about how shamelessly more the technician took advantage of my aunty. She had a coupon for $60 dollars off the service. When she presented it to the technician, he told her that they take that $60 right out of his paycheck. So she felt really bad about it and wasn't going to use the coupon. In the end, he gave her the discount but my aunty felt so bad that she tipped the guy the same amount in cash when he left. She just told me this and was so embarrassed about it. If I knew at the time, I would have call the supervisor and complain immediately. My cousin and I feel guilty that we didn't step in and help my aunty out while the guy was here. Hopefully by writing this review, other older immigrant people won't be taken advantage of too.
Our tub drain had been clogged for a little over a week and we tried everything... baking soda and vinegar, hot water, Drano, Liquid Plumr, a lye product and a snake. None of it worked and we were frustrated, wanting to take a hot shower at home and tired of spending so much money on products that weren't working! I decided to call a plumber. The first company I called said they could do it for about $100 an hour and the earliest they could come out was the next morning. I told them I would call them back because I prefer a flat rate cause I didn't know how long it would take to unclog the drain and we are low on money. I also didn't want to wait till the next day cause my boyfriend was already ready to head out to the store to buy more products to use... another waste of money. I called Roto Rooter next because they are a big well known company. The guy I spoke to over the phone said he can not give me a quote over the phone, but they can send someone over to do a free estimate. He said they are very comparable to other plumbing companies in the area... ok so around $100 an hour... he also mentioned they could come out that night in the next two hours... perfect, I could possibly take a hot shower in my own tub that night! Excited, I told the guy to send over the plumber. He took my address and said someone will be there within two hours and he will call when the guy is on his way. Yes, it sounds perfect! Not even an hour later I get a call that the plumber names is Joseph and he will be over in 15 minutes. About 10 minutes later Joseph... or Joe... calls me to tell me he is nearby and gather info for parking and what not. Joe arrives and looks at our tub and our outside sink... the pipes are connected. He knew what the problem was so he drew up our estimate... it came out to be about $350 plus tax... so my boyfriend and I decided to let him fix it since we tried everything which already costed us about $100 and he was already there. We didn't know how long it was going to take but we figured at least an hour or more. Joe went to grab his tools... an automatic snake... in about 15 minutes drain was unclogged and running like new! Phew... that was fast so maybe the cost would go down significantly! He put everything back and went to charge us and he said $300 plus tax... my boyfriend agreed not knowing how much cheaper we could've gotten it from the other plumber. Even after talking to a relative, she said her plumber only charged her $80!!! We got ripped off! They do the job but way way way over priced! The three stars is based on the company. Joe deserves five stars!!! He was very down to earth and explained what he was going to do. Joe is an older Filipino guy so we talked about the Philippines and Filipino food. Nice friendly guy and he is highly recommended by us. I like the kind of people that come over do their job and talk story... local stuff. Thank you Joe for clearing our drain!
Try ANYWHERE else before you call Roto Rooter. We have used them MANY times over the years, but today was the last time ever. I called for what appears to be routine issue- a high pitched sound coming from bathroom faucet, tub, and toilet. Roto dispatch said sounded routine, they could take a look and fix. Oh, and need a new hose valve, may as well get that done too. Called Monday, they set up for Wednesday between 12-4. Dispatch is on the continent and did call to say the plumber was going to be more toward 4, and I get that. But when I asked if there were other plumbers, dispatch had no idea about ANYTHING. So 4:30 rolls around. I'm frustrated and call, and nope, cannot help. Gives me the number for the Honolulu corporate office (not the plumbers/ contractor) and they cannot help either. Low and behold, the plumber calls at 4:30 and complains he's on the other side of the island. Asks what the problem is, and when I describe it he says "I don't know what the problem is, and I cannot fix it"...starts yelling when I ask him why, when dispatch said this is routine, and even Google said it's common. Nope, he cannot do what I'm describing. Yells at me that he's been working 25 years and when I ask him not to yell, he yells at me that he's not yelling. I may have yelled back, so he hangs up on me. I call the number back and he declines the call. Never had a plumber or electrician or anyone hang up on me but this is who Roto Rooter hires, so be advised. I waited the whole day and then got yelled at and hung up on. I called two other plumbers who said they know what the problem probably is etc., so hopefully REAL professionals can resolve. Roto Rooter is not for your plumbing needs, and they either do not have enough staff to serve the island or the staff they have is totally unqualified. DO NOT call them, there are better options out there.
I have used roto rooter a few times, and I like that they usually come right away or at least the same day. And the last 2 plumber was very good. However this plumber I had on New Years eves were the worst experience I ever had. Came here, I greeted him and trying to be nice understanding it's New Year's Eve, he came in our kitchen and first thing was like "I am not allowed to move anything" so he stood there and watch me empty out everything inside the kitchen cabinet and they are just pots and pans, then he swear a lot while he installing the water line, he was swearing even though we have young kid at home, then I showed him the $75 coupon I have and he gave me this silence treatment and later told me that came out of his labor, SAME COMPLAIN AS THE ORHER PERSON HAD HERE, then when finished, he walked out the door, stand there for 15 min or more, again the silent treatment, trying to calculate and jack up his price as much as he can. What an awful person. He treated his customer like idiots and try to charge as much as it can, that's what it is. Also he told me my shut of valve is old and he cannot guarantee when he turn the water back on, things will work. I just looked at the valve closely today and try turn it myself, and it's brand spanking new and turn smoothly, he lied. If you are the owner, better fix this or give this guy a lecture, or else I am not coming back. Too bad 1 bad apple ruined it for everyone, otherwise I am quite happy with roto rooter. I gave you 2 stars cause the job was done, but he did leave me a very bad impression of ill manners and trying to con their customer thinking they know nothing. Felt sorry for anyone who had the same experience as I do, and hopefully is the problem with this 1 guy only.
Don't ever use this company if your looking for a plumber especially if it's a emergency 24hr service. On Sunday about 5:30pm my toilet and wash room sink backed up. This company have a call center for their dispatcher so that means your talking with someone everywhere except Honolulu. Roto-Rooter has no follow up skills and they give you the runaround. I called them 4 times and every single time the dispatcher tells you the technician is still at the other job and will call you when he's on his way. Here's the icing on the cake when I talked to a particular dispatcher she said I'm the next customer in line to get service and that the technician is in the Waikiki area so I thought cool I live in Kaimuki area so it's only 10min away. Than finally I waited till 10:00pm so I'm already furious at this point I called for the last time. Talked to another dispatcher of course he told me that the technician went to another emergency flooding job than I lost it . I told the dispatcher I was the next customer in line he replied I'm sorry but he had to go to a emergency job. I told the dispatcher my job is not an emergency. I finally told the dispatcher cancel my job order. He replied I'm sorry would I like to reschedule for the morning I told the dispatcher no thanks I'm going to another company. So all of that wasted time I still had a plugged toilet and I could have called another plumber if they would have just been honest with me and give me updates and a time when I would get my job done. So the next morning I called Steve plumbing And they squeezed me in at 10am . So you'll see my post later on them
Had our kitchen sink clogged. They came, snaked it and "fixed" it but only later on we found out our apartment pipe broke by what they did and damaged 2 units below us. We understand we did sign a standard waiver agreement before work done. We just wish with their experiences handling certain old houses/apartment buildings' pipes, they would know how to do the job right, with EXTRA CARE/ATTENTION maybe, or if they think the job would be too risky with old pipes, they could have said NO. They billed us $400+ for the work "done". When we informed them the pipe was now damaged, they came back, cut open our storage drywall next to the kitchen sink to see the damage and left a dehumidifer to dry off the water damage. They billed us $4,000+ for that. We paid those 2 bills without saying much. A few weeks later, a 3rd invoice of $3,800+ came in the mail with vague description stating: Black Water Category 3. This time, we let them know we are not going to pay it. Enough is enough already dealing with them. It's too much damage and money spent, and not a single word of sorry from their side, being shielded by the Waiver Agreement we signed. Additionally, thanks for that damage, we are now awaiting a settlement payment that we might have to pay $10,000+ out of our pocket to cover the difference between the AOAO Insurance Company huge increase of deductible amount of $25,000 and our own $15,000 insurance coverage amount Hard and expensive lesson we are taking here
Would not recommend this company. Called for service to have a sink drain unclogged, no big rush just needed it fixed in the next day or two. Received a 4-hr arrival window for same day and thought "wow, these guys are really well organized and efficient". Then the calls started, each one about 20 minutes before the expiration of the committed arrival window... "sorry our service techs are really busy, it's raining"... This went on all day, 4 calls total the first day and at 8pm the service had to get re-scheduled to the following day. Following morning, same pattern of apologetic calls, same excuse. Was annoyed but not too concerned as long as we would get the clogged drain taken care of soon. Another 4 apology calls throughout the day, service keeps getting delayed and pushed out. Finally, after 48 hrs from the initial call a tech arrives, runs a snake device down the drain (5 minute visit) and presents a bill for just under $600. When asked why it's so expensive, the tech replies it was an emergency service... I've not previously left a negative review for a business. We all have difficult days and sometimes things just go south. However, this experience was particularly offensive. I should have spent the time finding a local plumber. I've subsequently learned the going rate for this kind of service is less than half what we were invoiced for. Really regret not supporting one of our local businesses who are far better representatives of this community.
On Saturday 8/13/22, I was out of town and my sister-in-law decided to fix a bathtub faucet leak which was dripping steadily. The tech Wyatt shows up with two other guys who he said were his helpers. So red flag #1, 3 people to fix a faucet leak at the already exorbitant plumber's rate. After assessing the work to be done and the parts needed, they send one of the guys to the hardware store. Red flag #2, according to my sister-in-law, the guy on the parts run is gone for quite some time. Mind you, there is an Ace Hardware 3 minutes from the house and City Mill another 2 minutes away. Meanwhile back at the house the other two guys sit around chatting waiting for the parts runner, of course while the meter is running. The runner returns and they resume their work. They say the job is finished and give my sister-in-law a bill for $1560.17. Now comes red flag #3. A family member decides to take a shower shortly after and notices that there is no hot water. A subsequent call to Roto Rooter sends another tech, Ben, who does a quick assessment of the shower and the hot water is restored. We have used this company for problems in the past and the results have always been satisfactory. I do not know why 3 people show up, charge us over $1500 in labor and don't even finish the job and check their work. I have also left a scathing review on rotorooter.com's customer survey and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to complain about the above practices.
I'm so confused I see so many different phone numbers listed for Roto Rooter. Today the day after Thanksgiving my upstairs bathroom toilet got clogged. Since I have family visiting I needed it done ASAP. I called them and someone could come out in a few hours. I explained I had a clogged toilet and my downstairs toilet was running never shut off. I understood that it was a $99 fee just to come out and an estimate would be given at that time. So as soon as they walked in they looked at my running toilet downstairs and said my water valve shut off was frozen. They would need to repair that to fix the problem. They then went upstairs to check clogged toilet and I checked the valve myself , it turned perfectly fine. Red flag as soon as they walked in. Up the charges because they think I'm just a woman who knows nothing. Checked clogged toilet said he had to go outside to get the estimate. Came back in with some booklet with charges on it for each problem. To fix the running toilet they wanted $759!!!!! and clogged toilet $379. I said are you kidding!!!!! It's a $15 part from Lowe's. Just fix the damn clogged toile. They were shady and dishonest. And why two guys only one with the company shirt?' I was desperate and needed clog fixed. But over $700 for the other toilet. Crazy!!!!!! Never will I use again. Beware. Johnny was the service person.
