When I called and spoke with the person at Owens Family Plumbing, he gave me an honest opinion about the issue, and we scheduled a service appointment for the next business day. Other businesses were happy to have me pay the weekend surcharge. I was impressed with their integrity on this. On the service day, Jeff arrived on time as promised, quickly diagnosed the issue, and gave me an accurate quote up front. He did exactly what I asked: He removed the old shutoff valve, and moved a new ball valve shutoff to an easier access point. I was prepared to be without water all day, but he was done within an hour. I’d recommend Owens Family Plumbing to anyone in the area.

Quick and effective! A genuine round-the-clock service. Our basement experienced a water pipe rupture at 3 am. We contacted various services promoting 24/7 plumbing assistance, yet most were unavailable until after 8 am. They either had an automated AI response or a person answering calls who took messages without promptly addressing our service requirements. Owners Family Plumbing in Joliet stood out as the sole company we reached that promptly dispatched technicians and resolved the repairs within an hour of scheduling the service.

I recently had a clogged kitchen drain and called several plumbers to get price quotes and see who could handle the job on a Friday. One company offered a firm price of $325, but I continued to shop around. My wife contacted Owens Plumbing and decided to give them a try after they told her the visit would cost $39.99 to assess the problem and provide a final price. However, once the technician arrived, the “final” price to resolve the problem suddenly increased to $500. I felt this was unreasonable, especially since the average cost to unclog a drain in Joliet is typically around $300. When I voiced my concerns and mentioned another quote I had received, the technician offered to reduce the price to $400. Ultimately agreed to proceed since the plumber was already present, and waiting until Monday to resolve the issue was not practical Although the drain was eventually fixed, I was disappointed with the lack of transparency at the time my wife made the appointment. I believe pricing should be clearly disclosed up front especially for a common household service request, for example: a standard clog costs one price, rodding up to the first 25 feet is another, and additional work or rodding per feet costs extra. Clear pricing prevents frustration and surprises. To make matters worse, I was also told there would be an additional fee for paying by credit card, another unexpected cost. To avoid it, we ended up paying by check. In my opinion, business should be conducted with honest and upfront pricing, without hidden fees or last-minute changes. While the unclog repair was completed, the experience left me feeling misled and dissatisfied. Would I hire Owens again? I’m not unsure, probably not. Their pricing is on the high side, and since you don’t receive firm pricing until they arrive—and by then you’ve already invested time—it puts the customer in a difficult position, which is unfair. I’m glad the issue was resolved, but I definitely feel I overpaid for the service.

We highly recommend Owens Family Plumbing! We have used them twice now. The first time was to replace a sink that we wanted to update. Tom arrived and was very professional. He instantly put on boot covers while entering our home. Tom replaced our old sink and was very neat and tidy. During small talk, I mentioned that we had an outside faucet that would spray water from behind the handle and shake the pipes while turning on. Tom said not a problem and had it fixed in minutes! The second time was to fix our hot water problem. We could never have enough hot water when multiple people were getting ready. Tom suggested that we replace our hot water heater which was quite old. (It was corroded on the top and could have caused us a huge mess by flooding our basement.) Tom said he recommend installing 2 hot water heaters, which we did.
