Mike from J&S Plumbing did great work installing our new water heater. They were able to do the install a day earlier than planned, and the very reasonable flat rate pricing meant that we weren't surprised by the price.
Our experience with J&S yesterday is exactly why we continue to rely on this company. We had an issue with a frozen pipe, and they sent a plumber out in record time. Stephen was extremely professional and clearly explained our options for resolving the problem. I truly feel that other companies might have taken advantage of the situation and overcharged us, but Stephen and J&S were fair, honest, and reasonably priced. Most importantly, our water is running again. Thank you
After contacting another plumber at 10:00 a.m. with a promise for them to be out at 3:00 and got screwed at 2:45 until Monday... I contacted J & S Plumbing. I explained my situation that I was a residential with a business need, and also that my daughter could not go to work because of the current situation, and with a new job on the 8th as a police officer...... It was imperative that we had this problem solved so that my daughter could go to work clean her first day. Knowing that the probability of getting somebody to come out at 2:45 p.m. on a Saturday would be almost impossible.... J&S plumbing made it possible! Thank you very, very very much from the bottom of our hearts. We took care of your guys with take-home mine and chocolate dip handmade pretzels. Thank you again, very very very much and have a happy holiday season. As far as plumbers go... I couldn't have asked for a better holiday gift,! ❤️
What a Joke of a company to work with. Their phone service ide man was super helpful Kaz ; when I called for service. It’s a shame the installer didn’t understand customer service 101 and totally stuck me. Being in the trades for over 25 years I would never tell a customer I would do something and then not do it after charging an astronomical cost to get half service is not good business. Had the worst experience with this company and would NEVER recommend them.
We paid around $500 for a washing machine water shutoff valve replacement which is outrageous. We would have shopped around more if we had more time but needed it for a washing machine delivery. The service was prompt, however, I was charged more than double the price of what I was originally quoted. When I brought up the discrepancy compared to the original quotes, they asked me with whom and when I talked to them on the phone then said that they could not find records for it. They also said that the quotes are always subject to change and they cannot give an accurate pricing before evaluating in person despite of the basicness of the task - the catch is, there is a consultation fee of close to $100 just for them making the trip, which you need to pay if you don’t like the pricing and decide to not use their services. They also tried hard to sell us on services/upgrades that we did not necessarily need. I find the whole experiencing predatory, pushy and disingenuous and I cannot recommend them to anyone looking for plumbing services.
Called these guys to remove a cartridge that I had chewed up pretty bad in my tub faucet. (strictly from seeing "good reviews" and them being local plumbers). I had the cartridge purchased from Just Faucet for my Kohler unit. (I was trying to get it done myself, after all it is just a cartridge). J&S sent couple of guys the same day (Fast service, I give them that)-- They came in and told me it was the wrong size cartridge and will come back when I have the right one -- CHARGED me $98 for 2 minute service. (that was fine since they had to come in - I was OK with that) I went back to Just Faucets and told them the plumbers said this was the wrong size, and first thing the guy asked who did you hire? He said Kohler doesn't make cartridge bigger than this. And, he took out one of his set up and showed me that i have in my hand is indeed the right one. So I called J&S back said, look I have the right part, they said we'll have someone come in Tomorrow (keep in mind my faucet been leaking bad for over the weekend). Jim came in today (he is a nice guy-- no hard feelings for this guy, just following orders -- I am also a field service engineer so I know how he's feeling)... tried to get the old cartridge loose/remove with a pipe wrench and couldn't do it. Suggest I replace or get a new faucet. Charged me another $98. My thing is -- they made a mistake first time they came in by saying I had the wrong cartridge and made me run back to the store and back, while dealing with leaky faucet over the weekend--- If they hadn't made that MISTAKE--they could've tried and figured they couldn't remove the cartridge that first day...INSTEAD they came back and charged me another $98 while DOING NOTHING for me. I just paid them almost $200 for nothing. While I try to get the 2nd $98 charge removed (since it was their mistake), they're boss (Ed) started arguing with me for the service charge. So I gave the 98 plus a "$2" tip and hope I NEVER see these guys again!!! Instead of owning up to their mistake----arguing with customer. NO customer service.... and he's the boss of the company. (I see big future here) __I only saw good reviews here mostly and that's why I went with these guys... So I am very confused here. So I plead everyone to do reviews, good or bad, help others!!! Thanks for listening
Im giving the company 1 star because they got the job done.im upset because they left the work area very dirty and they didnt cover anything nor did they ask us to move things or cover up.when they were rotting the pipe it splatterd on the boxes that were right next to the drain and on my shelf and cans with food and wall behind it.my towels were black, the door had black finger prints and the stairs were covered in footprints.i came home late ,discovered the mess and called the next day.they said my husband said i would clean, but they just told him it needs a mopping and he didnt look inside, but a nice lady told me that j.is coming back to clean that day if they have time.i called again later and she told me j. Will be there on monday between 11 an 1 to clean.i called j. Around 4 and he told me he wasnt going to clean up because it was our fault that it splatterd (there were wipes in it),so i tried to tell him that if they had covered up and brought soakable materials that that shouldnt have happened( they also used my towels that i had just put on to the water that am )to clean up the black stinking slime.he just said they were asuming since they were already there to use them.he told me they are not a cleaning service and said bye.i called the main number and talked to some supervising manager who after going over everything i already told the plumber and telling him im going to put that up on a public page , said this a coward way out and he hung up the phone.i tried a couple times to get a hold of a manager or owner.in the evening that lady called again who is a dispatcher and apologized about everything and sent over another plumber to clean up their mess (the guy cleaned a little but not the slime on walls,i didnt sign his statement either)plus we had to supply papertowls they just brought some spray.i had to clean sewage for 45 min until it was all off the walls ,door and stairs .also she told me s.the owner is getting back to me the next day which is today and i havent heard from him.all i want is for them to have plastic, booties, their own towls or soakable material,a water vacuum etc or work with a cleaning service that specializes in cleaning up hazardous materials etc to not mess up someones house like that.it says on their page they leave a clean work area...
DECEPTIVE! I called them for an estimate today, after being referred to them then checking out their website. All over their website it says FREE estimate...yet when I called, the guy told me it's $98 for them to come out to my home & give me an estimate & if I choose to have them do the work, they'd apply the $98 to the job cost. I then told him that the website says FREE estimates, he said it was for something else. I even pointed out that the page on their website that covered the services I wanted said FREE estimates & he insisted it wasn't. He said I could email him pics & he'd provide an estimate based on that. When I sent the pics & a copy of his website & stated if he was going to charge me for the estimate, I would not use them, I never heard back. Our Association uses J&S for repairs. They came out to fixed a backed up pipe behind my washing machine. While trying to get to the pipe they somehow broke the water pipe to my washing machine and flooded my entire bathroom/laundry area and also broke a pipe to my hot water heater that is in a separate room. After they cleaned up and fixed the piping they asked that I try to use the washing machine to make sure the new piping was on correctly and went to their truck. When trying to close the washing machine it wouldn't shut and the door was sagging down. They had broke the hinge and the prongs for the door. As they were still outside we called the office and my husband spoke to a nice woman who said that she would have the owner call us back. The next day the owner called and they said they would get back to us. After a week my husband called again and the owner he spoke to was now on vacation. The second owner Shawn said that he would contact their appliance guy and they would come out to fix it. Another week went by so my husband emailed Shawn. The appliance guy finally contacted my husband for the serial # and told him if it's too old they cannot get parts, my husband replied that evening. Another week went by and no one contacted us. This was all during the busy holidays with out of town guests visiting and I was stuck carrying laundry to wash at my in-laws. After 3 weeks with no washing machine and no effort from the company to fix the damages my husband ordered new prongs so that the door will semi-close and I can do laundry. The door is still broken and will probably need a new one. Also Upon further inspection there is a burn mark on my washing machine and my hot water heater and a nice gash in the front of my dryer.
Love this company! we had an emergency last night - I smelled "dampness" when i went in the basement so hubby checked our crawlspace and sure enough we had water - assuming it was the recent rains/snow melt we went to clean up til we saw an area by a drain pipe (from shower behind wall) that had water bubbling up under it hubby had to sit there for hours using shop/vac to suck it up and it would only keep coming back so we assumed it was a busted pipe i called several plumbers and they were the only to respond (mind you its super busy for them all w/the recent rains/etc.) so i get it but they were the only to call back right away i explained what we thought it was the nice woman on the phone gave suggestions (sump pump being one we didn't think of that thinking that was fine no water in utility room) so they would send someone when available - i went to investigate the pump anyway and lo and behold it was that - the balloon switch thing broke off and it was not draining we had to manually do it (and sit there all night to do it til fixed) the water ended up seeping into our foundation/crawlspace - they came out finally at 10:15 pm checked it all knew we needed a new pump and quickly installed one in like 10 mns! yes didn't want to spend the $ but at that hour we had no choice but was pleasantly surprised it was not as costly as one would think (more than if we did it ourselves obviously but still considering it all not bad) they do not upcharge for evenings and weekends that alone sold me AND the guy gave us a coupon! totally trust them - the techs were so super friendly and helpful even at that late hour and we were able to peacefully go to bed at 11 pm! :) totally recommend!
From the answering service to the moment that Leo left, this was as fantastic an experience as you could hope to have at midnight on a Friday. We came home to a filled sump well (with the pump not working) and water rising in another area of the basement. We called after 11pm on a Friday, spoke with a woman at the answering service who asked all the right questions and double checked everything. The J&S scheduler/triage person called back within a few minutes, gave a clear expectation of where the service tech was and when we might expect to see him, and promised a call-back when he was about half an hour away. It turns out that he was able to come earlier than expected, and by midnight, he was working in the basement. We actually had a couple of concurrent issues, and Leo identified and fixed them both, routing out the line from the house until it was clear -- which was quite a task. He also replaced our malfunctioning sump pump, all between midnight and 3am. Throughout, Leo was pleasant (which is a great surprise at this time of night!), highly communicative about what he was finding and doing, clearly very experienced and competent. Not only did he do his work very well, he even worked to keep the basement floor clean as he pulled a disturbing amount of unpleasant muck from the pipe. While I'm sure we paid some premium for the emergency service, we don't feel taken advantage of in the least; this service--and being able to sleep knowing that we weren't flooding with waste water--was well worth the price. We will recommend J&S, and would gladly work with Leo any time.
From Arlington Heights, IL. We had the misfortune to have a ring drop into a toilet in mid flush. I took the toilet apart but no ring and could not see it down the hole. It was not a cheap ring and had a HUGE amount of sentimental value. We thought the odds of find it were small but was certainly worth trying, Called one plumber who said he did not have the right equipment but that wonderful man recommended J & S Plumbing of Elk Grove Village. Lester and Mike of J & S came came with the right equipment and persistent effort weaving the camera through various turns on the drain system and found the the under the basement floor. A neat device that that beeps when it's near the camera told them exactly where the ring was under the floor. Fortunately the ring was within a few feet of a drain clean out port but unfortunately it was still unreachable. They tried several unsuccessful attempts to snag and pull the ring to the access hole. Eventually they tried pushing the ring toward the access hole with the camera and that worked. When Lester appeared with that ring in his hand it was like a miracle. They also did a great job on installing a new taller replacement toilet. I highly recommend J & S Plumbing of Elk Grove Village, IL for any of your plumbing needs, high quality work at a great price. I would like to again thank Lester & Mike for being so skillful and persistent.
February 1st, gotta' love Chicago weather; right? -24 degrees with a wind chill of -54 degrees; the pipes in my house can take it; NOT! After my house and the people and pets in it survived 4 days of non-stop Arctic weather, just when the temps were to reach a balmy 2 degrees, it happened. The dreaded cracked pipe. Luckily, it must had just burst, when we noticed the rec room carpeting was a bit squishy. We're grateful it wasn't flooded. In the past, J&S had been great installing a new ejector pump and adding (I think this is the plumbing term?) a frost proof shut off from the outside hose spigot. So, with this latest "event", I called J&S. Unfortunately, Ed told me that there were about 50 calls ahead of us and maybe I should call other plumbers, as well. Well, other plumbers had wait lists of hours to 2-3 days. Who can go that long without flushing a toilet? When the phone rang a few hours later and it was Ed saying a crew could be over in 1/2 an hour. We were ready to have a party! The two guys got the repair made quickly. They were competent, did neat work and were friendly guys. We were glad that the bill didn't cause us a heart attack or stroke. We were thrilled to have water. So, thank you J&S, once again. You guys are the best! Call them whenever you pipes decide to give you an indoor swimming pool.
02/01/2022: Adam from J&S came out to replace leaking toilet with a comfort toilet. All went great. I opted to purchase for the Kohler Brand from J&S, which was a bit more expensive. Total cost: $750.00. Adam said they could add a spigot to the east side of our house in the future. ________________________________________________________________________ 05/05/2022 Adam and Mike came out to install the spigot and repair the kitchen faucet my husband had installed. The faucet could not be repaired, and we opted for a new Moen model that Adam had on his truck. I appreciate that Adam added an extra water turn-off valve in the crawl space for the new spigot. Total cost: $1550.00 for new outdoor spigot and faucet. Adam and Mike were very respectful to us and our home. The price was fair. I really had no idea what the extra spigot would cost, but I imagined about a grand for the piping and labor. I appreciate that Adam added an extra shut-off valve for the outdoor spigot - located in the crawl space. The kitchen faucet was an added surprise, but we made the choice to have the item function properly. Note: Another plumber I had been working with for a decade said the cost would be enormous and he'd get back to me with an estimate. One month passed, no response. I called to follow up. Still no response. Very disappointing.
We discovered this morning that our well-past-its-sell-by-date water heater down in the basement had finally failed. In other words, we had an emergency. I called J&S Plumbing, and the phone was answered right away; the guy promised to have a crew to my house by early this afternoon, and gave me a reasonable quote for the job (based on our conversation). A little while later, he called back, saying that a crew had unexpectedly become available sooner, and would I mind if they came in about half an hour? Heck, no; I didn't mind! The guys soon arrived. After taking a look at the situation, they confirmed that the phone quote was valid; they didn't "find" new problems that could "pad" the bill. The work was done quickly. During the process, they discovered a couple issues (such as the gas line, next to the water heater and heading outside to the grill, being the wrong sort of metal piping) that they dealt with -- at no extra charge. They were completely finished sooner than I'd originally expected them to arrive. The company's slogan, brandished on their trucks and on the backs of their guys' shirts, is "Because sometimes a flush is better than a full house." You gotta love folks with that sort of sense of humor, especially when it comes with such good service. I will definitely be using this company again.
