Genteel Plumbers is committed to doing jobs right and to having satisfied customers. I called them to fix some plumbing issues with our clothes washer (both the hot and cold lines were coming from the hot water heater). They sorted out the problem but when they went to turn the main back on, it wouldn’t come on. Turns out the main line under the driveway was deteriorating. So they pulled all their available crew to come to our house to do an emergency main line replacement, which involved digging a trench in the driveway. Mind you it’s mid-day already and we are leaving for a vacation the next day. They worked as efficiently as they could to get everything finished and just before dark (probably 8pm since this was early July) they drove away. I was incredibly impressed with their workmanship and dedication to getting the job done on our deadline, and they were so kind and respectful. However, the speed with which they had to work meant that they couldn’t put much time and attention to the driveway repair. So I mentioned a few months later that I wasn’t happy with the driveway and they agreed that it wasn’t their best work. I said it wasn’t urgent so anytime they could come repair it would be great. Then early this week they called and said they would repair the driveway. Two days of work later it looks brand new. I will use Genteel Plumbers for all of my plumbing needs in the future. I’ve never experienced a company so committed to customer satisfaction and all around they are incredibly kind, skilled, and quality people.
I had the pleasure to meet Joan Leyva a technician sent by Genteel Plumbers to do some needed work at my place. He was very kind, knowledgeable, well trained and he took time to explain all my options. At the end my family and I were very grateful for the outstanding service Joan provided. We would highly recommend him and his company for the professionalism and good quality work. Five Stars!!!
I had a great experience with Genteel. We had a major water loss event at our home and Jo from Genteel was super helpful. He was diligent in locating the issue and resolving the leak, in addition to making some changes that would prevent further issues. He was patient with my questions, made recommendations without any pressure, and handled my home with care.
Way overpriced. I needed earthquake valves and a water meter installed and it took a few hours, but was insanely expensive. I’ve stopped using Genteel after this experience. The work was fine, but I felt gouged enough to write this review and do more competitive bidding for all projects.
If you have a lot of money sure! Get them. The process over the phone was smooth. Super fast to get a person in your property The guy was ok Breyman came and said ufff the sticker with the serial number it's not here (it was in the other side the thing is the tank needs to be replaced...for the same it's gonna cost you 3300 dollars including tank, and if you want to upgrade to a tankless YOU NEED to open a vent ...destroy a wall, get new pipes, 10000! I am Not kidding ...he even told me how many bathrooms you have? And I say 1 and he look at me like that was an exorbitant amount of bathrooms! Dude is 1! my existing water heating already has a vent, I got another professional to check it. And said well you already have a vent here, here is your gas line so yeap I ALMOST got scammed ...so if you want to pay a crazy amount of money please yeah get them ...
tldr; Weirdly hostile employee interaction, and accusations of extortion toward a customer when they were asked to provide cost of service explanation. Company pays for 5 star reviews. I'm the same Molly Rose who wrote the review 2 days ago about being charged $3114 to replace a p-trap and disposal and do a standard drain snake. I wanted to update my prior review but couldn't figure out how on this device so I'll post again here. I'll leave a two star review this time because the work was good but the interaction with the company was really bad. Pros: the technician on site was very nice and experienced, the problem was fixed, and I did 'OK' the job after being quoted the price, because otherwise my family would not have a working kitchen sink that had already been broken for two months, which is hard to do in a house with little kids...but the price hurt. And the manager did reach out to me on email to offer a full refund after I left a 1 star review, very promptly and politely, at first... Cons: I found out after the fact through multiple credible 2nd opinions that I had been overcharged for the work. The customer service interaction also went downhill very quickly. After the manager initially offered a full refund, which I did not accept, I asked them to please provide a detailed invoice, and I gave them my explanation of what I thought the cost adjustment should be based on market rates. I did not think a full refund was warranted, though it was very nice of them to offer. I just wanted an adjustment to fair pricing and more clarity on their charges, and left the refund amount to their discretion. Manager declined to provide detailed invoice of parts and labor, referencing their "flat rate policy." He also asked me twice to reconsider my 1 star review, and even offered a $250 credit. In an odd turn of the tables, he then said that I was trying to extort the company by leaving bad reviews in exchange for refunds...Taking down a review is like, a normal thing to do after a company fixes an issue for you. Really disappointed overall. Good plumbing work I guess, nice technicians, but negative customer service. Won't be returning. Also they aren't listed on BBB, which should've been a red flag. Receipts attached. Yes this is really petty, but they made it weird, so I'm going to make it petty, and hope this review helps someone else.
I had an excellent experience with Genteel plumbers and wanted to share the story: There was a mystery leak in my house: water was leaking through a hole in the basement ceiling through which gas pipe passed. Clearly, the gas pipe itself could not be leaking water, so the water could be coming from literally anywhere above in the entire multistory house! This is a really bad mystery to have because the total ambiguity of the source could mean a lot of chopping into walls without knowing where to look. Joan from Genteel approached the situation like a real detective or scientist, proposing various experiments (that I never would have thought of) and noticing tiny details that could be relevant, all without resorting to cutting open my walls or ceiling. To my amazement, he narrowed down the issue all through these experiments and without having to cut into anything. In particular, he noticed a tiny detail (a missing seal on the side bottom of a swinging shower door) and hypothesized the water might be slipping through that crack onto the bathroom floor outside the shower, pooling, and then trickling down through a tiny crevice in the floor. So we ran an experiment and he turned out correct! So the mystery was solved without any damage to the house at all! Then to my total surprise when he was leaving he did not charge me despite 90 minutes of detective work. He said that it was just done to prepare an estimate (to make an estimate in case work was needed) but that because no actual plumbing work ended up needed, there was nothing to charge for. In the end he saved me untold time, expense, and inconvenience, all for no charge at all! And as a result he earned one thing from me I rarely feel towards service providers: trust.
My San Francisco sewer line had backed up twice in the last two years during rain storms with water coming into my garage. I had two prominent plumbing companies review the situation and provide recommendations, which were identical in scope. Jason, the field supervisor for Discount Plumbing, provided a detailed summary of the work to be provided and an estimate that was 30% lower than another the other company. He spent a long time explaining the work to be done and was available throughout to answer any questions I had. The crew was led by Christian who did an outstanding job. They completed both a cast-iron trench replacement along my house and a trenchless replacement in my front yard in one day. They were on time, placed tarps to protect property and landscaping of my house and my neighbor. They worked quietly and efficiently. During excavation, Christian determined that there was significant root intrusion in a pipe crossing the yard from the storm downspouts on the opposite side of the house. After speaking with Jason about the most cost effective options, the roots were mechanically removed and connections were established to the downspouts to assure access in the future. Christian's crew then closed up the trench and left the premises absolutely immaculate, to the astonishment of me and my neighbor. The company that reconnected my irrigation was also impressed. I strongly recommend Discount Plumbing Rooter for your sewer needs. Jason and Christian were true professionals. I will be certain to use Discount Plumbing in the future for my other plumbing g needs.
Response time =Excellent. Joe performed an inspection of our old toilet and made a cogent recommendation. He clearly explained our options and pricing of the toilet plus possible warranties. We were leaving on vacation the next day (9/3/2025) and didn’t want another toilet flood. Earlier this summer we had one while we were on vacation. Ended a working toilet. The one replaced was 12 years old and almost overflowed after a flush in the morning. Turned off the water to the toilet before it did. Tried plunging with partial success and decided to call in a plumber. Genteel had good YELP ratings and looked to be in the neighborhood on Irving Street . Though we found out later that may have been an old address. No matter. The handoff from Joe to Daniel, who performed the install, was seamless. Both were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Both were good active listeners and answered our questions well. If we have a plumbing issues, I would NOT HESITATE to call Genteel. I would not hesitate to recommend this business. One other thing that struck me was how good the virtual assistant was. I’ m getting close to the “get off my lawn” stage ( @ 67 years old) in life. To date I have not been a fan of virtual assistants whatsoever. Whatever technology Genteel invested in, it is head and shoulders above any other virtual assistant I have dealt with. I didn’t have to scream “CUSTOMER SERVICE” into the phone several times to talk to a person and not a robot. Very human like. And GOOD INCLUDING FOLLOWUP. As a self identifying neo-Luddite, I was impressed.
My 80 + year old dad needed a new water heater. Installation area has super Easy access, No major replacement of plumbing lines. The water heater he had installed is listed at $900 or less several places online. Genteel came out, drained old heater and installed new heater. Took them 2-3 hours. The tech capped off the "recirculating" line which makes hot water get to the bathroom faster. The charge was $4920 - when my dad told him the water took 3+ minutes to get hot in the upper bathroom (it took 20 seconds before the repair) the tech charged him $520 to reinstall the recirculating pipe (less than 5 ft of copper and a few press connections (no solder) I have had several water heater replacements in the last few years (I'm a realtor) that were all similar and only cost $2000-$3000 - I get the feeling that Genteel took advantage of an older client. I emailed them to ask their hourly rate and they never responded. $1000 per hour seems pretty opportunistic. Regardless of whether they quoted this extremely high price once they were on site and it was accepted before the work was done- I suggest getting multiple bids and not from Genteel.
I used discount plumbing because the kitchen sink was backing up on both sides. The pipes below the sink were clear, so i suspected that the clog was further down the pipe. I tried the standard home remedies of hot water and then baking soda and vinegar but it seemed to work a little bit but still backed up so figured it was more of the drain pipe down to the main line. Discount plumbers was the first to respond on Yelp and I have used them before. Pretty responsive about offering the time availability the next day. The technician was on time and offered up two solutions. I was able to ask other plumbing friends if we wanted to do a snake or something called descaling which was more expensive. But I wanted to make sure that we did what was best for the house in the long term. Since we have never descaled these pipes before, ended up doing that. The technician was very informative about what was happening and was accommodating. Discount plumbing may be reasonable for their price however they are not discounting on their customer service and I would recommend them if you have any issues and I will plan to use them again.
Would recommend or be a return customer in the future. Pricey, but worth the cost in the care/service provided. Discount Plumbing had same day availability when I needed service urgently. The representative who answered the call was professional and quickly scheduled an appointment. Called a few other plumber services and Discount Plumbing was the one who was able to fit me in same-day. (The others I've called placed me on a wait list and didn't sound as friendly.) Josue arrived on time for the appointment and greeted me with a big smile. Josue's service was fantastic. He reviewed the issue, gave a clear and concise explanation and provided his recommendation. Before starting work I received a clear breakdown of the price and procedure. During each major step of the way, Josue explained what he was about to do and why. This didn't take any bit of his time and I appreciated his great communication throughout the entire process. Excellent service and communication from Josue is the main reason for this positive review. He truly set a high bar for any future customer service interactions everywhere.
We’ve used Genteel Plumbers multiple times and have always been 100% Satisfied by their work. Their Technicians are professional, highly skilled, efficient and tidy. They have fixed our drains, and replaced our water heater, with long-lasting results. Today, their Tech Joan, who has previously serviced our home, came through and replaced our bathroom faucets, our downstairs shower head, the J-Tube, and the 1/4 turn shutoff valves. In addition, he also replaced an old galvanized piece of steel pipe feeding our cold water to the upstairs sink, that was clogged, with a brass one that was clear, and also cleared a clogged drain downstairs. He truly went “Above and Beyond”, in order to provide the proper services that we needed. I would highly recommend using Genteel Plumbers for all of your plumbing needs. A+++ Service. Thank you, Joan and Genteel Plumbers, for your expertise and excellent customer service. You’ve given our family “Peace of Mind”, and helped us to understand how to protect our home from unnecessary damages and costs.
On Friday we discovered our toilet and shower were backed up and it was only getting worse by the hour. We called discount plumber and they were here the same day, they attempted multiple fixes and unfortunately were not able to free the clog. However they did mentioned they'd need to come back on Saturday to drill into our garage to remove the pipe and manually extract the blockage. They kept their word and walked us through every step of work they were doing. They ultimately found a tree root had somehow made it into our pipe! They were able to remove it and then created a new pipe system so that if this were to happen again, there would be an easier work around. Loved the communication and attentiveness of this team! They re did the area they dug into with a fresh round of cement, cleaned up throughly as they wrapped up. I also felt like for the work they did it was very much worth it from an investment perspective.Would not hesitate to reach out for any plumbing needs. Thanks for the help here Edgar and team!
We called Genteel Plumbers out for our clogged toilet and backed up shower drain (Main drain issues). While at first my wife made the initial phone call, she was greeted with Ai on the other end, it was surprising responsive and got our details down. When a technician, Joan finally reached, out, it was before our booked time (Which was going to be much later in the afternoon). So this made it our experience even better! Joan was courteous, well informed. Once we agreed on the invoice job, he got straight to work. He brought in another technician, Danny to assist him. The whole process maybe lasted just over an hour or so. They were thorough, happy to answer all of my questions, but important, was able to unclog my toilet and shower drain. It was a no stress experience! Genteel, does promote themselves as more premium in their pricing, but they are willing to work you on that front. Most importantly, they have what it takes to fix our plumbing needs. Excellent service from Joan and Danny! Highly rated!
