Very friendly, professional & knowledgeable. The whole team did a fantastic job. Joshua Rodriguez, Richard Rodgers & Cameron Woods. They installed quality products for me for a good price. Would highly recommend! 👍👍
So last Sunday in the middle of the storm Five Star Home Services came out and repaired our furnace and saved the day. Matt the repair technician diagnosed the problem didn’t have a part to repair with him. He drove in that mess to his office and picked up the part then came back and made sure we were warm. The service from them over the past 10 years has always been top notch. I am replacing our furnace with them and they applied my repair cost as a credit which is an added bonus. Today their team showed as promised and began replacing the furnace an A/C. Scott and Connor were amazing! They were done in half the time it took my neighbors and the install look perfect. It’s sad to say I feel their high quality service isn’t the norm. I would highly recommend their team for a repair or replacement of your A/C or Furnace.
When our furnace went out during one of the coldest weeks of the year, I had four kids in the house and real concern about how we were going to get through the weekend. Five Star Home Services stepped in immediately. By Saturday morning — in the cold and snow — their team was at our home replacing the furnace. What stood out most wasn’t just the speed or professionalism (which were excellent), but the way they treated my family. They were kind, calm, played with my kids, and treated our home with real care. The cleanup was spotless, and the stress we were carrying disappeared. In a moment when it really mattered, they showed up. That’s the kind of company you want to call — and recommend.
Five Star Home Services showed up to my elderly mothers house after she booked with another company. She tried to explain to the employee that she had someone else coming to take a look later that day. The employee convinced her to come in and "take a look" just to point out the obvious and charge her a 99 dollar diagnostics fee that was not previously disclosed to her. She is disabled and on a very fixed income. 99 dollars may not be a lot to everyone but for her thats the difference between having dinner each night or not. No high quality business would resort to elder abuse just to keep the lights on. If you are looking for maintenance, keep looking.
fix gas leak, gas utility turned off gas service util leak is repaired. Plumber technician showed up on time and was very polite and respectful. Their solution was very expensive and involved drywall damage to access piping. Called out another company and they fixed the leak w no drywall damage and less than half the price.
I strongly caution against using Five Star Home Services for warranty-related work. Based on my experience, this is not a transparent or customer-friendly company to deal with. Since November 2025, I have been attempting to obtain reimbursement for a warranted heat exchanger kit installed in my Carrier Infinity furnace. Under Carrier’s warranty process, the installing contractor receives the reimbursement from the manufacturer and is expected to pass that reimbursement along appropriately. Despite repeated requests, Five Star has refused to honor the warranty reimbursement. The 11/2025 repair itself cost $3,107 for approximately six hours of onsite labor. Even assuming additional prep and ordering time, the price is excessive ($400~$500/hour) for the labor only. Public estimates for the parts involved are $1400-$1700, so logically the price of the warranted parts was included in my total cost. By simply entering my unique Carrier furnace model number on the Carrier warranty page, I learned my parts were fully warrantied and should be free. Note, Five Star never told me this and, once notified, has refused to communicate about reimbursement. Communication with Five Star throughout has been frustrating. I prefer email communication, yet responses were inconsistent or nonexistent. I replied to an email proposal from Five Star and my response was returned as undeliverable. An email sent to an address listed on a manager’s business card was never answered. While ignoring my emails, the company texted a $2,500 “generous discount” toward the purchase of a replacement Carrier furnace to be installed by Five Star and tying future warranty protection and discounts to continued use of the same contractor. This raises concerns about fairness and transparency. After several months of ignored or unanswered messages, I sent certified letters directly to the company’s President and CEO outlining the issue in detail. Still no response. A Communications Manager finally responded more than a month later only after my daughter called the company and stated I was prepared to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Even then, the substance of my written requests for the warranted parts reimbursement continued to be ignored. Five Star ultimately offered me only $375 “manufacturer-supported allowance for labor” while never addressing the warranted heat exchanger kit itself. To be fair, the individual service technicians who worked in my home were consistently polite, professional, timely, and apparently competent in their work. My concerns are with company management, warranty handling practices, billing transparency and customer communications – not with the field technicians themselves. If you work with Five Star Home Services carefully review warranty terms. Document all communications in writing and fully understand how warranty reimbursements will be handled before authorizing work. Or, simply don’t work with them. Also be aware that Five Star has acquired multiple companies throughout the Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati regions, so it is important to verify exactly with which company you are contracting. My initial call was to Kettering-Oakwood Heating and Air, only to find later they’d been bought by Five Star. This negative review of Five Star Home Services seems to be the only recourse in helping others be aware of practices that are NOT consumer friendly – overcharging, refusal to honor warranty, and terrible communication at the administrative level.
BEWARE - THINGS HAVE CHANGED -- I have used this company for years and years. They always use to be precise, honest, and competitive. But unfortunately something has changed drastically and I will never be using them again. We had an emergency with our furnace and they came right out on a Sunday. Upon them diagnosing the problem, they quoted me over 1900 for a service to fix the issue, and also quoted me over 7700 for more future service on the furnace. Mind you, this house is 900 sq ft and a brand new furnace installation is half this price. My husband asked about the ridiculous cost and the tech told him its a lot cheaper if we were to do it ourselves, so we asked for the part numbers we needed. He told us he does not have the part numbers available. We were not happy with the exchange so we reluctantly called a competitor, HVAC MECHANICAL SERVICES (614)286-7682 (ps-call them and thank me later). They came out the next day and fixed the issue for $584. I called the manager at Canal Heating and Cooling and I explained how we were happy, returning customers and are very upset with the outrageous quotes, the lack of transparency on part numbers and labor rates, and the over inflated future maintenance costs. I also mentioned his competitors rates and thoroughness. I asked for a justification prior to writing this review to see if there was a mistake. He simply said, we use flat rates, are a bigger company and the smaller companies (his competitors that we uses) can charge a lot less, and that he offers the warranties on the parts he replaces; he also goes on to say that if we were to move forward with the future maintenance, by the time they got to the heat exchange ($3300), his techs would then suggest a new system. Does all this sound like a honest company; charging a long- term loyal customer 4x more than his competitor with no justification. Then trying to quote over 7700 in maintenance on equipment that costs a fraction of that to replace brand new with a manufactures warranty. This company use to have morals and loyal customers, but it seems since it has switched to five star, those days are over. I will never do business with them again. Doing right by the customer, being honest and transparent, and not price gauging goes a long way.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Columbus homeowners, beware: Five Star Home Services created a severe life-safety hazard at my home, caused thousands of dollars in structural damage, and committed unauthorized utility tampering, only to deny accountability when confronted with the evidence. Please make sure your permit is actually closed with the city and not failed to pass inspection! I hired them for a $7,500 electrical panel installation. Here is a timeline of their negligence: Failed City Inspection & Abandoned Permit: Their installation failed the BZS safety inspection for an NEC 250 grounding/bonding violation. Instead of fixing this life-safety hazard, they abandoned the open city permit for months. Severe Structural Damage: They failed to properly weather-seal the exterior penetration. This resulted in active water pouring directly into my wall cavity and over the electrical equipment, causing rotting structural framing and mold that now requires a certified mitigation company and a complete detach/reset of the panel. Unauthorized Utility Tampering: When a Master Electrician finally came out to address the leak, he illegally cut the AEP meter tamper tag against my explicit, verbal instructions. Denial of Accountability: Despite having a timestamped video of the water pouring into the wall and an audio recording of their electrician admitting to the leak and the tag tampering, management is now attempting to deny fault and refuse the damage claim. They are currently the subject of an active investigation by the Ohio Attorney General and have been reported to the BZS and AEP. Do not let their sales pitch fool you. They will take your money, fail the safety codes, damage your home, and walk away. Hire literally any other licensed contractors. (Photo shows no sealant on the inside and visible holes from outside. Where they installed the electrical cables that run outside...)
I had an emergency gas leak that required a gas line repair, and it was honestly one of the scariest and most nerve-wracking situations I've dealt with especially since it happened in the middle of freezing temperatures in January here in Ohio. We were without gas, heat, and warm water for the entire weekend, which made an already stressful situation even more frustrating and time-consuming. From the moment I called Five Star Home Services, I was met with urgency and care. The employee I spoke with over the phone immediately understood the seriousness of the situation and pushed me to the front of the line to ensure a technician arrived as quickly as possible. That alone brought a huge sense of relief during a very overwhelming moment. Austin arrived and was absolutely exceptional. He calmly assessed the situation, clearly explained my options, and worked diligently throughout the entire day to try to remedy the issue. When he realized the repair couldn't be fully completed on his own, he didn't hesitate to call for backup so additional help arrived to assist, and together they fully resolved the problem. As a single woman dealing with a major home repair, I was admittedly concerned about the possibility of being taken advantage of. That was absolutely not the case here. Everyone I interacted with was knowledgeable, sincere, and genuinely focused on finding the best and most appropriate solution and not the most expensive one. Austin remained professional, patient, and empathetic throughout the entire process, which made a stressful situation far more manageable. I highly recommend Five Star Home Services and would strongly encourage others to use their services. This team showed urgency, integrity, and true professionalism when it mattered most
We were referred to Five Star Home Services through the Lowe's Project Referral Service, and honestly I could not be happier. While they were not able to come out the absolute moment we needed them (our furnace went out on a Saturday in the middle of January, when I'm sure a lot of homes needed assistance), they were very quick to communicate and reschedule for first thing in the morning on Sunday. Naturally, we ended up needing a whole new system, but Five Star was incredible and able to update the entire system, furnace and AC, the very next morning and for a reasonable price. Noah came out and did our diagnostic, and he was super friendly and knowledgeable. I never once felt like my time was being wasted or that I was being taken for a ride. Zane and Mike (maybe Matt, I'm sorry I don't quite remember) were both awesome! They showed up exactly when they were supposed to, there's a tracking system so I was ready for their arrival. They worked all day and everything was awesome, they wore booties and put down a drop cloth, even swept up when they were done, extremely respectful of my home. Even their staff on the phone were incredibly great to work with! Five Star truly deserves all 5 stars, plus. Customer service is a dying art, but they keep it alive. Thanks so much for everything!
Hi. My name is Roger, and I won Five Stars Home Services "Scariest Furnace Contest" and had my new, totally free furnace installed last week and I couldn't be happier! I'm a 74-year-old retiree and having my 45-year-old furnace replaced with a new energy efficient model is a blessing and all the folks at Five Stars were great. They even through in a wi-fi thermostat with a room monitor, which I really love. After I was told I had won their contest, a Five Stars rep came over and surveyed the monster in the basement and the rest of the house and set about determining the correct sized unit, which is very important. Then they scheduled the install for the next business day. The installers texted when they were on the way and arrived on-time at 9am and promptly got to tearing out the old furnace and installing the new one, and they had it up and running by 6pm. They were very courteous and did a great job at the install and clean-up. I retired from Port Columbus where I coordinated construction projects, so I know a good job when I see one. I've added a picture of the Honeywell T10 Pro Wi-fi thermostat and room sensor that was installed as part of the project. Having Wi-fi access is great and the room sensor acts as a portable thermostat that can be located in any room.
We purchased a new AC and furnace from Five Star Home Services in 2019. The AC stopped working in the fall of 2025. We called five Star home services this spring 2026 and had them assess the air conditioning problem. They claim to have a 10-year warranty on the AC unit when they sell it to you. In reality the only thing that is covered are the parts. The tech said we needed a cleaning, and a new capacitor. Once the work was done he said we also needed a contactor, and then he said we needed a new fan motor. All of these parts were covered under warranty, yet we received an invoice for over $1,900. So for a 2 hour service call we were charged $1,900 for labor. Which breaks down to $950 an hour to replace warrantied parts. Stay away from Five Star Home Services, they are scammers in my opinion. I wish I could give them 0 stars!!! PS I received a response saying someone would contact me within 24 hours. Well it's been weeks and no response.
After having four new AC units installed in May 2024, I've had many issues with this company including: immediate warrantee service on two of the units, they forgot to contact me to schedule the seasonal inspections, and tried to upsell me on compressor saver kits after installation. Worst of all, I caught them deceitfully recommending unneeded repairs and replacement of several items (unrelated to the installed AC units). For example: Plumber recommended replacement of two water heaters saying that two of them were 21 years old when I have had water heaters replaced all water heaters within the last 4-8 years. The technician recommended installation of smoke/carbon monoxide detectors saying that they were missing in all of the bedrooms. My son and I personally installed new smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in every bedroom less than three weeks prior to the inspections. Also, extremely overpriced.
Our thermoastat stopped working and we called Five Star. The Technician found a fuse blown and replaced it. He then advised that a capacitor and contactor needed replaced. I said go ahead and replace them. He then said the refrigerant was low and he could not tell where it was leaking at. He said it would be better to replace the air conditioner. I told him we would wait on anymore work as I felt things were not right here. I got a second opinion and he checked out the unit and said everything was in spec and there was no issue with the unit. I feel the Technician was trying to get all he could out if us. I found out these kind of things happen with a lot of companies. They teach the Techs to be salesmen. 1 Star is too high but I cannot give lower on here. I will never do business with Five Star again and will let everyone i know to avoid them at all costs.
