Afterglow Heating and Plumbing

When our tankless water heater broke, I called Mniska and he came the same day. He was very good and thorough. He patiently explained our options and answered all our questions. Definitely recommend!

We had a carbon monoxide situation a few months ago and called on Mniska to investigate and correct the problem as well as update our aging hydronic heating system. Mniska did an excellent job and, over the past few months, we've been enjoying our updated heating system. Heating can now be programmed in separate areas of the house which is wonderful because the rooms where we spend the most time are heated without having to heat the entire house. The system is now tankless (see picture) so we don't have a huge water tank sitting in our small utility room. Mniska impressed us with his attention to detail, neatness and cleanliness in all aspects of his work. An excellent communicator, he responded promptly to all of our questions via text and/or phone, even after hours. Mniska is extremely knowledgeable and kept us informed of what he was doing and why. He did everything he could to minimize any disruption of service during the course of the project. We trust Mniska and would absolutely hire him for any future heating needs.

Afterglow Heating did a phenomenal job of replacing and upgrading my boiler system. It’s not your typical heating unit, it’s a hydronic radiant heating system, but Mniska knew exactly what was needed. He was able to come out immediately and assess, clearly explaining what my options were. They worked long hours to get my hot water and heating back online as quickly as possible, and in just 2 days, I was all set and warm again. I really appreciated the time he took to determine my needs, and to explain every step. Especially the last parts where we tested all the elements on the Viessmann unit, made sure everything was connected and working properly. (Photo note: all those shiny copper pipes did get jackets to insulate them, I just loved the way they looked before it was done) I would not hesitate at all to recommend Afterglow!

We wanted to revive the abandoned hydronic floor heating. After providing the estimate of ~$900 to pressure test the existing system we were told there's no hydronic floor heating. Upon confronting about the estimate being for pressure testing the hydronic floor heating we were told to pay for coming out and providing a consult. After a lengthy and unpleasant discussion we agreed to pay $450 for the consult. If you are going to charge for a consult it must be communicated upfront.

We had Mniska with Afterglow come out when some of the valve actuators on our hydronics system stopped working. Our project ended up expanding a bit from there, where Mniska pointed out some other flaws in the system. A different contractor had installed the system and it came with the house when we bought it. This system had number of flaws Mniska found, some of which were: 1. Didn't have a back flow suppressor (so water from the heating system could potentially back flow in the water used for showers and drinking, especially distasteful since the heating part of the loop normally has a rust inhibitor in it and humans are generally advised to avoid drinking that.) 2. Had combo heat exchange and circulator pump whose rated rise isn't sufficient for getting water from the basement of our home to the attic. 3. The water supply lines running to the various rooms had never been insulated so when they ran through crawl spaces and other areas they were losing heat. We ended up addressing all the issues Mniska pointed out with a more extensive rebuild of the system which has yielded excellent results. Where he could Mniska reused the existing system where he could rather than just try to sell us on new everything to control costs. Previously our kitchen floor and bathroom floor never got as warm as the wood floors. We had chalked this up to the fact the tile was too thick for the heat to really radiate through. With the more efficient system these floors now get warm. The system is also much faster to bring the temperature in the home up. In the past we'd turn the system down to 60 degrees when we traveled and coming home it normally took 10+ hours to bring the entire house up to 67 (we'd resort to running space heaters to speed the process up). We had to shut the entire system for 2 days while Mniska fixed all the issues and when he left the system had the house up to 67 in about 2 hours and to 70 in another hour. On a day it was ~55 outside. Beyond that we're seeing general efficiency improvements, now once the system brings the home's temp up in the morning it's ability to mostly switch off for the daylight hours, with only 3ish of our 9 zones being on during the day in December, before we'd have 7 or 8 of the 9 zones needing to stay on during daylight hours. Overall we're very happy with the result. The system is running much better and Mniska was very transparent and communicative through the process. His pricing was up front, his timing was spot on, he arrived when he said he would, etc. We'd highly recommend Afterglow for anyone needing work done on their system.

Since installing radiant heat, his allergies have significantly improved -- it's been a game-changer for our home comfort and his health. I was originally concerned that radiant heat couldn't be installed in our home because of the old wood flooring, but Mniska made the process seem easy and stress-free. Everything went smoothly and we LOVE the end result. Mniska was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. He took the time to inspect our crawlspace -- which had never received attention -- and found it filled with debris. Not only did he clean it out, but he also laid down plastic to prevent moisture buildup. It was such a thoughtful extra step that showed his attention to detail. I really appreciated how clear he was about pricing. He explained our options and offered different service levels to fit our needs and budget. Minska is AMAZING! HIGHLY Recommend! HE IS HONEST & highly knowledgeable unlike other plumbers I have used in the past (I have some experience with plumbing but didn't have a torch to fix the problem with my pipes). I will be referring him to all my neighbors & friends. Don't waste your time with anyone else. He was referred by another plumber who wasn't licensed to work on Hydronic Heating Systems. I called, he answered & he was at my home in an hour. Thank God!!! My wife was driving me nuts; as I had to shut off the master so no water; toilets/shower/sinks! He's very professional, polite, well dressed, & does extremely clean work. His pricing is reasonable too. We recently had the boiler for our hydronic system replaced by Mniska at Afterglow heating and plumbing. There are not many heating specialists knowledgeable of the complicated hydronic systems in our area, so we were very happy to have come across someone who was able to diagnose the problems we were having and come up,with the best options for repairing it. We are very happy with the work he did for us. The cost was reasonable and he kept us informed throughout the process. It ended up taking longer than we anticipated due the complicated nature of our system, but Minsk’s made sure to clear his schedule so that everything would be done in a timely manner and we could have both hot water and heating back! Mniska is a conscientious, very knowledgeable plumber. He came to replace some radiant floor zone valves at our home and found a number of other plumbing fixes needing to be addressed. He took care of the radiant valves efficiently, all the while explaining what he was doing and what could be improved to make our system operate better. Turns out there were a lot of things that could be better, which, I'll be honest, can be a little overwhelming to hear. He's both ensuring a steady stream of work, and making sure the water system is treated as a whole, not just settling for the quick and simple fix. If you have an old house and need to start digging into the deferred maintenance, Mniska is your guy. He keeps good records, makes a lot of notes, and will be a reliable person to have on call.
