Our hot water heater went out Thanksgiving morning. We were happy with the work Joe Lay and Sons Plumbing did when it was installed, so they were our first call Friday morning 11/28. After speaking with Daniel, he walked me through the steps to check to see if any warranty was left on the unit first. Unfortunately, there was not, but I appreciated the fact that he recommended doing that! He gave me a price quote and got us scheduled for installation of the new unit on Monday 12/3. Billy and Brett arrived during the scheduled time period and got the unit installed promptly in a neat and clean manner. (Fortunately) They discovered an issue with the flu not drafting gas fumes properly and we were not able to get the new unit in service. They referred us to a chimney company in the area to come out to assess the situation so we could take corrective action to get the unit safely in service. The chimney company worked us into their schedule and were out on 12/3. Billy and Brett came by as well to make sure everything was getting addressed so we could get the new hot water heater in service safely. The problem was resolved and we were up running by the end of the day. Our thanks to Billy, Brett, Daniel and the rest of the team at Joe Lay and Sons Plumbing for their patience, great customer service and excellent attention to detail that averted a tough situation from turning into a bad situation. Job well done!
I contacted Joe Lay & Sons to install a kitchen faucet. The guys were great-professional, friendly and very neat. They did a great job & even took the old faucet & packaging from new faucet to dispose of for me. I appreciated that.
Joe Lay & Sons Plumbing was fantastic. They were easy to schedule quickly. They were on time and was able to fix our issues. There was a part they had to get, and was back the next day to complete the job. I will be using them for all of our plumbing needs, both at my business and at home.
I started experiencing a leak underneath my 1st floor bathtub/shower into my basement last February. I went through my home warranty and got them scheduled to come out. Well after three visits - February, May & July, I'm still dealing with the same issue. Each time they were here I stressed not wanting a bandaid fix each time, but that's exactly what I got and why I'm still dealing with the issue today. Not sure if it's because I went through my home warranty or not, and that's why I received lackluster service, but I will definitely go through another service provider to get my issue fixed. And to top it off, I'm still being asked to pay a $150 deductible even though the issue still persists.
If I could give NO Stars, I would. Stay away from these people. They sent "plumbers" to our house 5 separate times and could not fix the problem. They also destroyed our current tub and surrounding tile, AND stained our carpet in the process. They also tried to replace the tub they destroyed with one that did not fit! To top it off, they stopped responding to our requests to fix what they destroyed, on we have had to get legal counsel involved. Companies like this are why contractors get bad reputations. roughly 6 months later, we still don't have a tub, and have holes in our kitchen ceiling that they won't agree to repair. Now they want us to submit a claim through our Homeowner's insurance to fix what they destroyed. Unbelievably negative experience with these jokers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!
Let me say before I start that Chad & Donny represent the company very well. They were helpful and very hardworking. They went beyond what was asked of them to make sure our plumbing issue got taken care of. they both stayed late into the night on a Saturday when they could have very easily gone home due to poor road and weather conditions. I could see that they took personal pride in the work they do. That is the only good thing I have to say in this review. We were referred to this company by through the company that holds our warranty. The customer service and accountability of this company is sub par at best. No one returns calls. If you are lucky enough to speak to a representative of the Company you are treated like an interruption. I experienced this today from the genius they have fielding phone calls who goes by the name Rob. Please do not let this man anywhere near a phone dealing with a dissatisfied customer!!!!! You would think that a person would be understandably frustrated after 4 days with no plumbing. Especially since the workers themselves assured us that we would receive follow up calls after 2 visits totaling nearly 10 hours with no solution to our plumbing issue. The lack of professionalism and accountability by this man was astounding. He even had the nerve to comment it " Its not my fault that you bought a house with a plumbing problem that's not covered by warranty". His exact words!!! I will never recommend this company and am also going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I'm also going to contact my warranty company & demand an explanation as to why they would ever consider doing business with such an incompetent company.
You know it's not going to be a good day when you go into your finished basement to grab a shower and hear water dripping. Not from the shower but from an unknown source in the unfinished back basement area. What a mess! I called my usual plumber but got no answer and no return call. So I reached out to Joe Lay & Sons simply because they're so local to my house. Alison answered and was awesome. She got a hold of DJ who left a job he was on and came right on over. We investigated for more than an hour without any luck in identifying the leaking pipe. The water was dripping from the return duct work on my AC unit and accessing above that was nearly impossible. We tried a few things and finally thought we isolated it to my laundry room on the first floor but to be sure, DJ called his supervisor, Jessie, who came right out. Within about 30 minutes, they'd confirmed it was most likely coming from the laundry room area but still needed to identify where. A few test holes later, they found the culprit. 17 years ago, when we built our house, the drywall crew had screwed through a protective plate and pierced the copper line going to my laundry tub. The screw rusted and finally couldn't hold back the pressure. So within about 10 minutes, DJ had the bad section cut out and repaired. Literally, they made my day!!! Thanks to the entire team at Joe Lay & Sons. It's so nice to be dry again!
The company was hired through my home warranty to diagnose and repair sewage backing up into our basement. After having a technician out the first time who couldn't clear the line, they promised to come back out the next day with the "right equipment" to get the job done. I called twice before they finally had someone out the second time about a week or more later. Then he couldn't get the line to clear with the bigger equipment so he had to "come back with the camera". I had to call again multiple times to get this to happen. Finally I had a camera diagnosis and was promised a quote that week. Over the next month (all during which we had limited use of water without sewer backing up into our house) I politely asked 4 different times (and not politely one time) if they would provide a quote and copy of the camera video to me. Today I was told no video was taken despite my paying them $275 for the camera work and they promised a quote by the end of the day again and I received nothing. Now I must pay $250 to camera the line again so that I can get a quote from another company. Joe Lay did nothing for my money. They get 2 stars because the technicians were nice and the receptionist was nice. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They have been very unprofessional and did not perform the services I requested.
Joe Lay & Sons Plumbing was the contractor for our new Fischer house in Independence. They botched 4 major things on new construction. First, they didn't properly install the drain for the main bathroom tub. They were quick to come out on the warranty work, but did have to cut into our new drywall and would not repaint. Next, the overflow drain from the where the HVAC unit sits was covered with particulate, causing the drain not to be effective, leaving water all over our carpeted floor. This required a service call. Once the drain was cleared of material, it was clear that they had not installed the overflow drain into the main drainage exit. This was another service call required after the other should have fixed it. Finally, today, I had to call a different plumber as there was a stain on the ceiling under my main shower. The new plumbers cut a hole in the ceiling and confirmed that the work performed by JL&SP was insufficient to keep the drain from overflowing. I would not trust them with any future work and clearly have had to have others come in to straighten up what they missed. With zero walls to have to work around, they couldn't get it right. What will they do in your house?
So a plumber by the name of Tucker came to fix a leak we had from our upstairs bathroom. I told him I noticed that there was a crack on one of the bathroom tiles. He inspected and advised that he would be sealing the crack and we should be good. I left him alone in the bathroom, 10 mins later he told me he was finished. I looked at it and I thought it was weird that I couldn't see any difference, he said it was a clear seal and we shouldn't use the bathroom for 48 hrs, I waited 96 hrs just to be on the safe side. The first time using the bathroom, it began to leak again. I called 2 different plumbers on 2 different occasions just to check if there was anything sealed, they both confirmed no. I then went ahead to Walgreens purchased a $20 sealant and sealed it myself, I even waited a few months to see if it'll leak again only because I didn't want to undeservingly leave a bad review. It's been 3 months and there has been no leaks. It seems like this is a scheme to keep customers returning for more work to be done. I'm not sure if this is how you guys run your business or if it's just a bad employee but regardless I spent money for nothing.
I was put in touch with Joe Lay through my home warranty company as my water heater wasn't working properly. Within 24 hrs of making my claim, they called me to set up an appointment and were able to come the next day. Cole and Bill were very helpful, prompt, and friendly. They replaced the thermostat, as it was the incorrect one for the machine. Unfortunately while this improved my problem, it didn't fix it and within 2 weeks they came out to replace the water heater. The second appointment setup included some miscommunication over a weeks time but once it was set they came right out. I couldn't believe how efficient they were in doing the replacement! They didn't even leave a spec of packing material, dust etc. They even explained a few things to me that are good to know moving forward in my new house. I didn't realize how bad the problem had been until it was fixed. Great job!
Awesome Service and it REALLY is 24-hour service December 2019 Returning after my first experienced was great- on 10/8/20 needed plumbing on my commode and the youngsters that came to my home this time were nice, however, I had the same issue on 36 days later they informed me that want a trip fee since I live too far and wanted the Home warranty to pay them again - I thought they would try and do the right thing for their customers since it is clear the commode was not repaired correctly. I work at home and when I came to check on the young men periodically always on his cell phone, and needless to say I had to pay again since it was only covered with 30 days (really) ok so I did and the new plumber shown me that the was ring was not put on correctly in the beginning- WOW - I didn't live too far, in the beginning, SMH) all about the money
Chad and another guy were at my house this morning to fix a running toilet and replace a sump pump. This company had replaced my water heater through my home warranty previously, so that is why I called them. I had totally forgotten about having a home warranty this time. Chad asked me if I had a home warranty, thankfully. I was able to quickly call the warranty company and get it set up with them. As soon as I got off the phone with the company, Chad's guy said they already had gotten the approval for the work. They were finished in about 45 minutes. Thank you Chad for saving me several hundred dollars by only having to pay my $100 deductible.
Absolutely horrible experience!! They came out and gave me two options. We agreed on one of them but they submitted the one we did NOT agree on to the warranty company and did not tell me. By the way, I had to call 4 times before they would even submit it. So when they came to do the job, it was to do the wrong thing and said they would have to resubmit to the warranty company. They never resubmitted it, I called a few times and nothing. I finally gave up and are now looking for another company. Husband missed work because of this and water is still getting in the house when it rains due to the drain not working. Thanks for nothing!!!
Used this company through a home warranty company on a property I own. Since I live in another state- I had no choice but to trust they would do the job. I'm still waiting 5 weeks now for an itemized statement/invoice. I also had my daughter inspect the home when she was in town and she found a gaping hole cut into the dry wall. When I called them to find out why they didn't fix it- they never called me back. They never even told me they had to cut into the wall. Very disappointing because I've been showing the property through a rental agency and no one brought this to my attention. Disgusted all the way around
