I had a basement flood caused by a broken water line, and the team at Benjamin Franklin Plumbing came out right away. Their emergency plumbers responded quickly and had the water line repaired within an hour. They were fast, friendly, and very professional. I really appreciated that they wore shoe covers and cleaned up everything before leaving. If you need a reliable local plumber for emergency plumbing or water line repair, I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing!
"I think Benjamin Franklin himself said it best: 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,' but in my case, a call to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was worth three times the cost of a water heater in saved 're-piping' fees! If you enjoy shivering in an ice-cold shower while a 'big box' store tries to convince you that you need to re-pipe your entire house for the price of a small yacht—by all means, call the other guys. But we chose sanity instead. After the 'unnamed' hardware store told me my perfectly fine copper lines were a disaster, Vincent and Josh from Ben Franklin showed up within the hour. They debunked the 'gas line catastrophe' and had our family back in steaming hot showers before sundown. Quick, honest, and didn’t try to bankrupt me. They are officially our first call from now on. Sorry big-box store, it’s not me... it’s your terrible advice!"
Sam was our technician and did a great job. He came out during a stressful situation with a failing water heater and no hot water, and even though it was late, he was professional, patient, and thorough. He explained our options clearly and made sure everything was installed safely. We really appreciated his hard work and the peace of mind he provided. The service was more expensive than expected, but given the late hour and prompt emergency response, we understood the higher cost.
Just a terrible experience all around. The drip pan on my water heater constantly had water in it after I replaced the elements. I presumed it was a faulty pressure release valve. I agreed to pay the "emergency" rate to have someone come out at 9 pm on a Sunday evening. The tech arrived promptly. He brought no tools, except for a knife, into the house and proceeded to unscrew the panels covering the elements with said knife, scratching the water heater in the process. No leaks there, so I was told that the water heater itself was cracked and needed to be replaced. The quote was for well over $1,000. The unit was under parts warranty, so I declined the service until I could speak with the manufacturer about the warranty. The tech pulls out his tablet to charge me for the call. Says there will be a 4% service charge for using a credit card, to which I agree. I then look at the bill on his tablet and he's got the 4% service charge (the emergency call was around $100) listed as a $40 charge. I tried to explain that this was a 40% fee and was incorrect, but he runs the "math" again and says the credit card fee is $40. I had to go grab a calculator and physically show him the numbers before he agreed to only charge $4. Imagine someone standing in your living room at 10 pm trying to charge you a 40% fee for using a credit card. Had I not been able to convince him that his math was wrong, I suppose I would have just paid the $40 extra and disputed the charge at a later date. In his defense, he was very polite throughout the interaction. In the end, the water heater had a faulty pressure relief valve ($15 part) and didn't need to be replaced after all. Rheem, the water heater manufacturer, had another plumbing service come out and fix the unit for a grand total of $35 (less than the "credit card fee"!) It has worked perfectly ever since. I called Benjamin Franklin 4 times to try and explain the situation and avail of their "100% Satisfaction Guarantee". Each time I was greeted amicably, told that they were aware of the issue, were reviewing it, and would call me back the next day. Not once did they call me back. So, in the end, I paid over $100 for a Benjamin Franklin plumber to scratch my water heater with a knife, incorrectly diagnose the problem, and demand a 40% service fee for using a credit card. I then tried to resolve the situation privately and was brushed off, despite a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" that apparently means nothing in reality. My advice: Take your business elsewhere; at the very least, proceed with caution when using Benjamin Franklin.
The "unethical" plumber.I wish there was a "0" star rating. They installed a damaged...fell off a truck damaged water heater under my house and said NOTHING of the damage. I saw it the following weekend when I went under the house to look at it. Neither the tech or Quinton who inspected the job said anything to us. I called to complain and was told they would have to come look at it which they did one day and replaced it the next. My time I had to take off work those 2 days, my gas $ and the extra 50 gallons of water to refill it meant nothing to them when I asked for some form of compensation. Sandra told me they made it right and that I was beligerant! Their tech supervisor James is a total jerk...very argumentative and refused to answer simple questions like, why did they originally install a commercial grade heater and the replacement said residential on it. He told me that it must have been a mistake but he would go get a commercial grade and charge me the difference...wtf! The day before he said I would be getting the same unit. He also ripped vinyl siding away from my house getting out of the crawl space, but that means nothing to them either. Point is if this was an honest company I would have been informed of the damage before the 1st install. Very shady and unethical company...STAY AWAY FROM BEN FRANKLIN PLUMBING IN GREENVILLE SC I wish there was a place to post photos!
My first experience with BF Plumbing: 2019: They inspected to give me an estimate for running a water service line, they never called me back, even after more calls to them. Going elsewhere. Second Experience: Jun 2021: I just wasted $1564 with these guys. I had a water leak somewhere on an 800' water service line to my home & apartments. Before scheduling a visit, I asked lots of questions about their experience, "state of the art" equipment, and success rate. I scheduled my estimate appointment and provided my current job address. Their office scheduler called and said that their senior tech (John) would be there in about 45 minutes. I waited at my job site, and about 90 minutes later I get another call, telling me that he was at a previous property that I had sold months before and was not my current address. So, another 15 minute wait while he drove to the right location... all the while I'm waiting for him by the street in my car. As it says on their trucks, "If there is any delay, it's you we pay.." Damned Lie. A nice guy, he walked the water line, looking for damp spots and probing (pointed steel rod) along the way. He didn't find the source of the leak and suggested that he use his acoustic listening probe to find the leak. He continuously explained how successful he had been with it and had always found the leak, even with pipes located beneath concrete and an asphalt driveways, with lesser flows and more depth. With this assurance, he spent 35 minutes drafting an estimate/contract while I again waited in my car. (The listening device is essentially what The Lone Ranger's friend, Tonto would do by putting his ear to the ground.. but with more amplification.) With his "gofer" tapping on the pipe, John was able to hear and locate the pipes under the driveways. Yet, after 4+ hours, he was unable to find the leak. His time, my time and my $1564 are lost... for nothing. John lost about 30 minutes of time when the probe's rechargeable battery went dead and required recharging. Poor planning from either not charging before leaving the shop or not charging during the lunch break caused this time loss. Also, the choice of equipment without a swappable battery was a poor choice. I asked if they had the proper high-tech equipment & training when I called to schedule my visit. They assured me that they did. After the failure to find the fault, he explained that if the leak doesn't "spray," it may not make enough "noise" to be heard. Obviously, they did not have the best equipment for the job. (It was a halfway step between the pointed stick and something much better.) A better choice might have been to use a tracer gas system, such as a Variotech 460, which forces a compressed gas into the pipe and senses that gas on the surface. The gas is lighter than air, moving upward (vs downward like water) toward the surface through porous surfaces like concrete or asphalt. Overall, the company was poorly managed, poorly equipped and I felt lacked veracity when professing their past success in leak locating. Their saying, "The Punctual Plumbers" is bull. Update Nov 2021.. After the failed attempt by BFP, I called a locally recommended plumber, Plumbing By Greg. Using essentially the same piece of equipment and a shovel, he was able to locate and repair my leak. I guess it is a matter of skill and experience... Obviously, a corporate name means nothing. Avoid BFP.
Highly responsive, well-spoken staff. They answered my phone call and were very patient explaining my options to have someone come out to my house to look at my main water line that was leaking into the road. I opted to wait until the next day for the $50 service with the wider service window, and the technician called first thing the next morning. He was very polite and prompt. I was comfortable waiting a day, because I figured the company would be able to solve my troubles when they showed up. Granted... they could have easily solved the issue, but they are nowhere even reasonable on prices. See screen shots that I've attached to this review. Technician called me back and said that he would need to dig a hole to further investigate the problem, so he could only give me a quote for the hole digging first, then the "price would be adjusted from there." Obviously the price won't go down, but if you look at the receipt picture I attached, the quote says its for the fix; that was 100% NOT what was described on the phone. Even if it was, it was still steep. Quote to dig the hole was $769, then like I said, we would further discuss more costs. I didn't want to go down that rabbit hole (no pun intended) where they take it step-by-step and keep stringing me along for more money. Like I said, they are super friendly, on time, responsive, and in my opinion trustworthy to get the job done. Just don't expect your plumbing problem to be a cheap fix. (I denied the quote, came home from work and dug the hole myself, and had a different plumber come the next morning who fixed it for $130). To be fair for the sake of these reviews, I won't state that company's name, but their pricing was $147/hr compared to Ben Franklins roughly $450/hr based on my hole quote). Update: I received a call and was given my initial $49 back for the service charge. I hadn't asked for this or approached them - they insisted by their 100% satisfaction guarantee. It's possible there was a miscommunication, but form your own opinion off my initial review and the company response about the misunderstanding (about the cost to dig and attempt to fix versus digging and anything else costs above the $769). Could've been a miscommunication, so I recommend treating this review as neutral. I edited the rating from 2 up to 3 stars since it's a bit more neutral. They didn't ask AT ALL for me to adjust the review. I thinks it's fair since they tried to make it right. I don't know if I'd go too much higher than 3 stars simply because there are far cheaper options out there, but Ben Franklin definitely seems reliable to get the job done, correctly, the first time and on time.
I hired Benjamin Franklin to install a water heater in a home I bought in December of 2015. After a time I began to notice the floor around the water heater warping. I called Benjamin Franklin in October of 2017 to do a check on the water heater, and a few other minor issues (washers at faucets, things like that). The two gentlemen who came were friendly and respectful. They took off the door to the water heater, looked it over and said what a good job that installation had been and that everything was fine. I voiced my concern about leaks under the house (my son has a mold problem at his house because of a water heater improperly installed) and asked if they would check under the house for any problems. They came back saying everything looked fine (and that there were a lot of spiders under there). I was charged $372.00 for the minor repairs and they left. And my floor continued to warp. So I called a new plumber for a second opinion. These gentlemen came. They were friendly and respectful. They took off the door to the water heater and showed me within minutes that I had a leak under the house. They showed me where it was rotting my floor away. They also showed me that the water heater had been installed with a pipe that was too long and that when the access door was on, it was pressing on this pipe, which may very well have been the pressure that caused the leak. They had me listen to the hiss that was audible as the water sprayed out. Then they went under the house. They came back with pictures on a cell phone showing me the leak - and the very wet wood under my very heavy water heater. They gave me an estimate of $254.70 to fix the leak under the house and the pipe that had been improperly installed at the water heater. So, it cost more to have Benjamin Franklin NOT fix it the problem in October 2017 than what it cost to have the new plumbers fix it today. If you choose Benjamin Franklin Plumbing I hope you have better service than I had. I will not be calling them again.
I had a clogged drain in my sink/washing machine line. I originally called mr rooter to fix it. After my 2 hour appointment window came and went I had to call them. The operator had no idea why they hadn't shown. As soon as I hung up the plumber called and acted like he was super busy but that he could leave right then and head my way. An hour later he showed up. Made a bunch of excuses and made me feel like i was stupid. It was obvious he had forgotten my appointment and he didn't want to do the job. Then he gave me a quote of $418 but he kinda urged me to think it over. I told him id call someone else. I called Ben Franklin the next day. They didn't have an appointment for that day that worked for my schedule so we set it up for the next day between 3 and 5. When I got home at 230 Angel Cortez was already at my house. He wasn't impatient or trying to rush me. Instead he was hanging out and organizing his truck. He said he could wait if I needed to settle in after work or he could jump right on it. I told him I was ready when he was. He looked inside and then under my house and explained everything without making me feel like an idiot. He cleared my clogged drain in about 10 minutes and explained why the old pipes were clogging. He charged me about $25 less than mr rooter tried to even with his $69 service call. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable with 18 years of plumbing experience. While he was under my house he notice an hvac exhaust vent line that wasn't connected and was worried for my families safety due to carbon monoxide. He duct taped it and explained that it was actually broken and needed to be replaced. He really went above and beyond. Angel is a great asset to the company and I'll definitely contact him again if I need a great plumber
My husband and I had a representative from Ben Franklin Plumbing come out last week, during the emergency hours. We agreed to pay the higher rate for this because of the regular hours would not work for our work schedule. The tech arrived and was very professional, and a nice and friendly guy, and it was nice that the service center called us when the technician was on his way. We had gotten their name from a local plumbing company that had come by earlier to look at the issue, and did not have the equipment to do the job (the other company did not charge us, since they couldn't help us). However, we were looking for answers on why our pipes were bubbling... we mentioned that there is a vent on the roof, and the tech said 'well that wouldn't be fun to go up in the dark'. This seemed to be his consensus on most things to check out throughout the night.... I felt as if we had a very incomplete inspection, I agree that it wouldn't be fun to check things out in the dark, but then don't agree to come out that late and charge $129. Then he quoted us for a lot of different work that was not going to solve the original problem. It took a lot of questioning on our part to realize it was going to be one big bill followed by another by the time they did all the work. We did ask to buy the 'bio-clean' product they suggested, and he didn't have any on the truck. Overall, we ended up not purchasing any services from them except for the service call, and did not find their inspection to be thorough.
1 slip brass coupling- Lowes $2.10 For the Technician to soldier 1 coupling on. $????? 1 PVC Tee coupling- Lowes $1.22 4 Pex Crimps- Lowes $8.00 1 10-ft piece on PVC- Lowes $9.38 Work time around 40 minutes to complete work order. Hourly rate for tech must be around $400.00. No bill was left for anyone to review I also contacted the supervisor to request an itemized bill. Stated they don't itemize there bills. They just read the price out of a book to see how long the job should take and what the tasks are and it spit the price out. But he did say he would mail me the statement. I assume it's going to say your bill is $531.00 The issue I really have besides the ridiculous bill of $531.00 is that you personally too advantage of an elderly (94 years young) veteran and this pisses me off beyond your belief. So I can only assume this is the best practice for this company to take advantage of the elderly people in our county. Do you also do this with single parents that are non- technical? I also can assume you didn't think anyone would crawl under the house and take a look at the work you performed. Because I can assure you that you knew a 94 year old man wasn't going to crawl on his hands and knees to validate the work you performed. Well you were sadly mistaken. I hope you never receive any more business from another Veteran for the rest of your career. The material listed about is all that was used to repair the issue.
Kevin Connolly is our guy – we purchased a home built in the early 60’s with all original cast iron plumbing – Over the past 3 years we have section by section replaced almost 50% of it with PVC, under the sinks bathrooms and kitchen, replaced the old clay clean outs, re-set every toilet, replaced our hot water heater, installed a sump pump, replaced our washer connections, and bath / shower fixtures – every bit of that work has been done by Kevin. He is on time every time, professionalism is always above par, there never is a shock in price, the quality of work is superb, everything is done right the first time. He is amazing at his trade, his takes pride in his work and always delivers. He understands the home owner, a budget, needs vs wants. He has created a loyal fan in us, I would never allow another plumber to come out to our house. Kevin has won us over time and time again – there is none like him. He is simply the best. I have and will continue to recommend your services. Agility, collaboration, respect, honesty – that is what Kevin means to us. Thank you for being you, sincerely the Farr Family.
I had bought a garbage disposal and connecting parts from Home Depot and called Ben Franklin to install it because our newly renovated house didn’t have one already fitted to swap. They came fast, which I appreciated, but overall i felt a bit scammed. They charge a $69 fee just to come. We asked the lady on the phone what’s the general price of this install and she didn’t say. We paid $220 for the disposal, and so we were shocked when the man wanted $800+ JUST TO INSTALL IT. He also offered an option for a $500+ metal food catcher (which does the same thing as the $5 plastic one we already have). So we had to deny the huge install fee and he collected the $69 and left. I also found it odd that the first thing he says upon arriving is that he doesn’t recommend putting food in the garbage disposal. I asked what he meant by “food,” and he said “anything besides water”. So we asked what the point of a garbage disposal was, and he said there isn’t one because they clog your pipes. Am I crazy for being shocked at an $800+ install fee???
Extremely overpriced. They fixed a leak in our relatively new irrigation system for us a year ago and it was right at $1,000. We agreed and were under the impression it would take several hours to repair. Nope. Done in an hour. We developed a leak in the same location a week ago and called them back because their prior work was under warranty. Of course, after the tech digs up the yard, he tells us it's a different issue, not under warranty, and would cost close to $1,100. We said that was too expensive and he knocked off approx. $200. I did not want to agree, but my husband wanted the leak fixed today. I should have said no. This time he was finished in 45 minutes. NEVER AGAIN!! We could have almost had an entire new irrigation system installed for the cost of two repairs - in the same area. Probably will leak again next year, but we won't be calling Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.
I contacted Benjamin Franklin Plumbing regarding a recent issue with low water pressure. Their team was incredibly responsive, immediately prioritizing my concern and booking me the first available appointment. My technician, Hallam Cottingham V, was exceptionally professional and knowledgeable about my home's specific equipment. He immediately put me at ease with the dedication and care he applied to solving the problem. The job ultimately required a couple of hours, but Hallam worked diligently and straight through until it was done. He not only resolved the low pressure but also cleaned up his workspace. As a bonus, he even noticed and tightened a loose sink faucet while testing the water flow—a true commitment to detail! Thank you, Hallam, for the outstanding service, and thank you, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.
