Paul is always great! If you are a female who doesn’t want to be taken advantage of, call Whistle plumbing! Reasonable costs, a discount for being a loyal customer, always a clear explanation and honest answers.
The only plumber that wasn't trying to rip me off for a toilet replacement! Also installed my bidet no questions asked. Later, when I needed my on-demand water header replaced, he was the first I called. He did a great Navien install for a fair price. Would totally recommend!
I'm a laundromat owner and I've been use Whistle Plumbing for many years. Paul and his team have been answering my calls whenever I was in emergency situations. My last service call to him was at New Year's Eve and Paul and his team came to me rescue on my busiest day of the year. I value Paul's professionalism and honesty that I never ask for a quote before his work begins because I trusted him, 100%. He is my guy 👍 Thank you, Ken / laundromat owner
DO YOUR RESEARCH Would have loved to have given this company 5 stars, but I think 2 is what this whole experience deserves. ROBERT the technician was the person who actually did most of the work was very professional. Kept his mouth shut and just did what he came to do. But unfortunately, the lift rod for the pop up in the new bathroom sink faucet they installed was not done sufficiently, because you have to pull kind of hard on it to open or close the pop up. But I can live with it. Maybe Robert lost his concentration, because his boss was too busy debating me. The tension was thick in the air. Also, it was a very confined space for Robert and he had to twist his body around as he worked underneath the sink. And now with the owner, Paul. He was considerate and did come early so I did appreciate that. But if I was a business owner, I wouldn't discuss religion or politics with customers, because this man really turned me off: dude had no intellectual honesty. I was left feeling disgusted. This man was not only contradicting himself, hypocritical, but he was also trying to twist things around on me by playing reversed psychology. A typical tactic of a narcissist. Will never waste my energy on people like him again. But more IMPORTANTLY, he over charged my landlord who paid $500 to replace a leaky faucet. $500! After he agreed with me that it was wrong to rip people off. Another plumber my landlord consulted with before Paul was only charging $300. I wish my landlord would have told me how much he was charging before the work began. But because Paul was already here, she just decided to go through with it. I use to work for a plumbing company as a CSR/Dispatcher so I know $500 is way too much. And I also know that technicians are encouraged by a lot of plumbing companies to purposely rip people off because most people aren't privy to this practice and don't know much about plumbing. That makes it easier for those who have unethical business practices to jack up the price. They can also lie by saying you have something not working right just to get more money. In this case though, Paul only jacked up the price.
I was prepared to just let this go, but Paul's response to my review is infuriating. I looked up the cost of the part on Rheem's website (I have the box the part came in). It costs $84.12 and I am sure Paul, as a contractor, paid less than this. He told us the part cost over $200, a flat out lie. This means we paid $400 for less that an hour's labor, overhead and other expenses. We were grossly overcharged. Get other quotes before hiring this company. Also Paul did not buy the part he installed in my home from a local distributer. I have the box and the packing label. It was shipped to him from Rheem. My review goes beyond my opinion of your service; I am documenting with facts that you lied to us about the cost of the part you installed and where your purchased it. People who consider hiring you should proceed with caution as this contractor is not honest and will gouge you. You were paid exorbitantly for your service and can take some satisfaction in that. Airing my grievance here so potential future customers are informed is the consequence.
3.5 stars. Summary: no problems yet with work but will not use them again. Normally with Yelp I use the aggregate review, which they score very highly which I'm sure for good reason. That said I wish I read more deeply into other reviews as that would have solved misunderstanding. Go forth and read. The work was completed, and plumber did show up courtesy in calling ahead of time in showing up early. In that regard the workmenship is good with no issues yet and they do have great communication. The few elements that semi-tarnished my experience. As a prospective client you're obviously reading this on Yelp. Despite their ad saying mention yelp for 10% off, unintuitively you cannot mention this when you first contact them about an appointment. or when they ask how you found them. Apparently you are supposed to tell the person that shows up, which may be different from the owner or whomever picks up the call. The deal thus may or may not be honored, and in my case it wasn't so felt a little bait and switchy. Second note that there is minimum one hour charge for any work that starts Even if the task takes less than 7 minutes you're charged with full hour so it's not truly an hourly rate. I imagine the pro-rate will also apply when rounding up for longer tasks, so your YMMV. The claim is that the standard rate is $225 per hour in 2017, but he'll bring it down to $179/hr though most reviews here mention $179 so it seems standard or at least their way to bypass their "ad" above. Just for transparency I saw on the invoice there can also be a $15 gas charge on a visit which may or may not be waived. Given that quotes are free I figure if they come back it would have been tacked. I did have a small task(adding a connecting valve to gas line. I used a professional because it involved gas with more much liability and was pressed for time due to circumstances otherwise I should have just went with another vendor. So being caught between the rock and hard place, I had to roll with the quote. Maybe the pricest 7 minutes of my life. Not end of the world for either party. I'm sure they expect some churn with their marketing/business model as long as it gets their people in the door. I sitll have some peace of mind in having the work completed. Really it boils down to what is least pleasant in life is when you feel you are unnecessarily gouged or tricked. I'd rather it all be laid in full transparency at the beginning at the appointment phase especially if it is a standard policy. So when I inevitably get issues around utility in the future, I won't use them.
I rarely write reviews for anything but in this case I just had to because of how much Paul helped me. I initially contacted Whistle Plumbing after contacting 4 other highly rated plumbers on Yelp and spoke with Paul about a leaky bathtub faucet. I needed to replace a cartridge inside the faucet but failed at first to even get the handle off. I wanted Paul to come over and fix it but he insisted that I try to do it on my own. He gave me detailed instructions on what I needed to do in order to fix the leak. Paul was the first plumber to even ask me what was wrong. All the other plumbers just gave me their hourly rate and told me that the cartridge I needed would cost anywhere from $50-$80. The following day I went to Home Depot and bought the cartridge for $40. I went home and attempted to install it. It seemed to work just fine but in the process of the repair I must have done something wrong because hot water kept flowing out of the faucet even though I had turned-off the water to the bathtub. I tried everything I could do to turn-off the water but it just kept on flowing. I dug myself into a hole that I couldn't crawl out of and eventually had to call Paul again. I told Paul what happened and he asked me to calm down and relax. He told me to cut-off the hot water to my house by turning-off the hot water from the water heater. From there he told me to re-install the cartridge and the other components and to turn on the hot water from the water heater. After a few minutes I checked on the bathtub faucet and everything was ok. The water stopped flowing and there was no more leak. Paul stayed with me on the phone and walked me through each step. I was so happy and relieved that everything worked-out. If I had chosen to go to anyone else it would have costed me at least $200 but with Paul I was able to fix my leak and prevent a disaster for a measly $40. This just goes to show you how Whistle Plumbing cares more about their customers rather than the money. Paul could have easily decided to accept the job and collect some easy money but he didn't.. I guess there really are some good, honest, people out there still.
Over the years, my wife and I have relied on Whistle Plumbing for our household plumbing needs. We have called upon their services multiple times and will continue to do so for plumbing issues that may arise. Their professionalism and reliability have consistently impressed us. Paul, the main point of contact at Whistle Plumbing, has always demonstrated a high level of responsiveness, honesty, and diligence. The first time we reached out to him was due to a leak in a pipe that was connected to our water heater. The leak occurred over the weekend, making it challenging to find someone available to help. Despite this, Paul arrived shortly after our call and efficiently replaced the faulty pipe, resolving the issue without delay. On another occasion, we experienced an issue with one of our toilets. Although Paul was unavailable at the time, he sent two of his team members to handle the repair promptly. What stood out to us was Paul's attention to customer satisfaction—he followed up with a phone call after the repair to ensure everything was functioning properly and that we were satisfied with the service. Most recently, we discovered brown stains on the ceiling directly beneath our upstairs bathroom, indicating a possible leak. Paul came over to assess the situation and was able to determine what the issue was after examining the first-floor ceiling and then the bathtub in the bathroom upstairs. His expertise allowed him to identify and provided us with options regarding fixing the issue. Throughout all our experiences with Whistle Plumbing, we have found their pricing to be very fair. We are consistently pleased with the quality of service and the attention to detail they provide, which is why we continue to trust them with our plumbing needs.
We recently had a water heater go on the fritz on a holiday weekend. We called several places and these guys were able to come out on short notice. Considering it was a holiday weekend, we accepted the quote even though it was a tad bit high considering the actual cost of the water heater they planned on installing. We had one request, as it was impossible to pull a permit prior to getting it installed, we simply asked if it could be installed to code. We were assured it would be installed to code and the water heater was installed and working shortly there after. Does the water heater work? Yes. Was it installed in short notice in a holiday weekend? Yes Was the work completed for the amount of the quote? Yes Was it installed to code? NO We reached out a couple of times, after the work was completed. The first time we were polite and asked if he was sure it was installed to code. He assured us it was. He even offered to pull a permit himself for 689 more as it would take him 6 hours to get the permit and wait at the house for the inspection. When we reached out the second time and asked if he would stand behind his work if we were to go ahead and pull the permit ourselves and wait for the inspector ourselves. This is where his true colors came out and he said the inspector may find a few things but he assured us we didn't need those things and if we wanted them done he would have to charge us more. You can use this guy if you want, but bottom line, he is someone who is willing to stretch the truth and lie to your face. There are plenty of good, honest plumbers out there....if you have to wait a day or two for the good ones, it's worth the wait.
Paul had performed a jetting service for us almost two years ago. He did excellent work. I really hoped I didn't have to call Paul again because let's face it, what homeowner wants to run into plumbing issues? I recently called Paul for a quote for multiple plumbing issues at our house. He responded quickly, came out for a site visit and provided a quote in a reasonable amount of time. I accepted the bid based on Paul's craftsmanship and value. Paul and his crew arrived each day at the scheduled window. They were courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. It was particularly nice to see the progress at the end of each day because it showcased their attention to detail to their work. It was artistic just as it was functional. At the end of an approximately two week period, with them coming in and out of the house as required, they have transformed our downstairs into a functional garage with the proper plumbing updates that it needed and was deferred for YEARS. Working with Paul gave me confidence and relief that if I did have any plumbing issues, he would be the first person I contact. His calm demeanor and voice exudes knowledge and experience in the trade. I am happy to have Whistle Plumbing as my contact for all my plumbing needs. I highly recommend this company!
Ratings are for interactions with: Paul and Jim Issue: leaking shower faucet 1 star: Honest 2 star: Best Rate (we received compared to others) 3 star: Easy scheduling 4 star: Personable -1 star: Jim, super nice and cool, didn't bring all his equipment upstairs and had to make several trips to his vehicle, and unfortunately, had to saw off our bathtub handle since it was frozen stuck and could not get access to the cartridge (so glad we did not attempt the You Tube DIY). No longer simple fix. Total time: ~ 3hrs Jim did not have a replacement but instructed us to a hardware store (hint: initials are Huge and Dumb), which did not sell handle but the whole shower/handle kit which was not needed, instead they directed us to a universal handle, we bought and replaced but was "cheaply made" and felt like it would break after multiple uses, also did not cover the entire unit as needed (see pic). 5 star: I emailed Paul and sent picture explaining what we did. He called right away, explained lots of things, and came over the next day with the right handle and replaced it. Total time: less than 10 min!! Extra Stars for Paul's Pinoy jokes & candidness!
i have a Japanese friend who is 74years old lady takes care of her sister 88years old. While back maybe 7-8years ago, asked me to find a Plumber, Paul came to their home and estimate the work and suggested us to contact the original company because it was still under the warranty. So, we did, but my friend kept his number because Paul was such a nice and kind. (He could just do whatever to worked on it and charged her!) My friend called me for help last week for her sister's bathroom. She dropped her denture(YIKES!) in to her toilet.. and she told me to call the number..(She doesn't speak much english) I was totally forgot about Paul then, but he was so nice and responsive he said they will come soon, gave me the estimate arrival time. (Same day!) As they arrived and started work on the clogged toilet with denture, (OMG) I remember him! He was very clear with his work, so professional. hornets jobs, his guys are the same!! They saved denture and made old ladies very happy!! (to replace new denture for 88years old is not so easy physically for 74years old) and we think his rates are very reasonable too. Thank you Paul and his team! You guys are hero!!
Our sink had a leak for the past month and being the woman of the house, I surely spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I was getting so tired of my husband who rarely swears screaming all kind of cuss words when he'd come home from work having to clean under the sink filled with water. I kept bugging him to call a plumber, but you know my hubby can be quite stubborn. I was glad he eventually bought a new faucet and thought he could replace and fix it himself ....NOT! Finally, he gave me the okay to call a plumber. The reason I chose Whistle Plumbing is because they were located on the same street I lived and it was Memorial Day. I was actually surprised they picked up. I was greeted by a very polite man and they were at my home within an hour. I had to leave while my husband stayed and I must say they did impeccable work and I am so happy my sink works. Happy Life, happy wife. It was nice of Paul to tell my husband he saved a few hundred dollars by having the new faucet and some parts he needed. I highly recommend them and will keep their number in my contacts. Thanks a Paul for saving the day and my sink!
After countless search for plumbers within the Bay Area, I am very pleased with the services and timely communication by Whistle Plumbing to handle a leak and the renovation for my bathroom. Paul and his team reassured me they would be able to fix the leak through their plan of action in addition to providing an appropriate estimate for their labor. Prior to my search many surrounding plumbers, they often caused more damage to my situation and suggested paying more out of pocket for the labor. Thankfully, after connecting with Whistle Plumbing, my worn downed bathroom from the 90's is finally remodeled to accommodate the needs of my family. 1)The initial consultation helped me understand the expectations of the final product, especially the need to gut the bathroom within to fix the worsening problem. 2) The work alone was quick and finished within 2-3 business days. 3) Their team ensured cleanliness by laying out floor paper during the construction, and followed up by wiping the floors after. Thank you Whistle Plumbing, I highly recommend these Plumbers, you would not be disappointed. Maria & Johnny
As a first time homeowner, any plumbing issue can be daunting but Paul makes it manageable. I had a minor water line leak in my crawlspace and a leaking century year old main water shutoff valve that needed replacing that required a call into the city to shut off my water meter during the repair. Paul did a very thorough inspection at my estimate appointment, got into my crawlspace where all my pipes are and provided me with a comprehensive estimate with a warranty guarantee. He doesn't man-splain (if you're female) when reviewing the issues he's identified and doesn't up-sell -- instead, he provides the pros/cons with each issue & what he considers is an urgency vs what can wait. I also found his pricing to be fair and transparent. His repair crew is also very knowledgeable and I appreciated that they explained what they did at the end of the repair appointment with before/after photos. The quality of work is high and the team is super experienced. So glad I have found a local, trustworthy plumbing team and when my water heater eventually gives out this year, I know exactly who to call!
