Had a plumbing issue come up @ 6:30 pm and put in a semi-emergency call. Had D from Thomas Clark at the house in 2 hours and the problem was efficiently solved. Will definitely use them again! It was expensive but excellent quality and almost IMMEDIATE response!!!
This company came highly recommended from my realtor. Easily the best plumbing experience I’ve had. Efren is very skilled at his craft and went above and beyond.
Prompt and excellent emergency service.
I was away on a work trip Mon - Fri morning. Upon my return, I found whoever serviced my apartment used my bathroom (without asking my room mate who was home at the time), peed in my toilet, did not flush and left the seat up. Given that the service was done on a Wednesday morning and I did not return until Friday, the smell in my bathroom was absolutely rancid. Coming home to someone else’s bodily fluids in my bathroom is DISGUSTING. I would also like to note there are communal bathrooms in my complex that he/she could have used.
We had the misfortune to scheduling a quote to replace our heat pump system from Thomas E Clark today. Maybe the sales person woke up on the wrong side of the bed but it was a disaster from the word “GO”. The sales person did not want to assess our current system, take measurements and understand our expectations for a new system. He thought it was more important to lecture my wife on our current broken Trane system. He wanted to vent about the lack of availability of Carrier products during the transition in refrigerants. Frankly, we just don’t have the time, bandwidth or professional expertise to deal with mental illness in folks posing as sales professionals. The salesman walked out because my wife did not want to hear about the virtues or lack thereof of a broken heat pump system. On the way out I could hear him taunting my wife. Thomas E Clark your sales person was unprofessional but we are happy to have experienced this because we would have hated to have dropped $20k on a new heat pump system only to find out that your company do not respect its customers. So thanks for helping us dodge the proverbial bullet. UPDATE: Yes, Kate P. we do have examples. The attached image is an excerpt from the contract for the existing heat pump system that we are seeking to replace. As you can see the SEER rating is listed as “18”. This is what we contracted for in 2012 and this is what we believe we received. We have no reason to doubt our signed contract. The “wanna be” hotshot HVAC salesman from Thomas E Clark mocked my wife for repeating what is stated on our contract, that our current system is rated as 18 SEER—which is not unreasonable from where I sit. The salesman insisted that the existing system is 16 SEER and not 18. There was no cause for the salesman who came out to give an estimate for a new system to address the old contract or her understanding of an old contract. The ego or mental illness (or whatever) of the salesman would not allow him to let the issue go after being asked repeatedly to do so. The salesman became undone and refused to complete the estimate arguing and taunting my wife on the way off our property, striking the heat pump for good measure. And Kate P. , Jake from John C Flood told my wife when he made his pitch during the quote process the previous week that the new refrigerant R-454B contains propane. When she stated this the salesman he all but called her an idiot stating that no propane is in the new refrigerant. Again, the salesman could have just told the wife to look it up herself instead of dressing her down and getting angry and lashing out at her. So, Kate P here are the examples of the unprofessionalism of the Thomas E Clark salesman.
Thank you Thomas E Clark and DCDOE and their Lead Pipe Replacement Assistance Program (LPRAP). With funding through DDOE LPRAP program we were finally able to get the last piece of lead out of our incoming water system. Thomas E Clark answered our request for service promptly, sent out a project manager to confirm that we were in fact eligible for the LPRAP, received approval from DDOE to perform the work, applied for and received all permits, and performed the water line replacement all within the span of 3 weeks. From initial call to the water line being replaced. Their crew was on time, courteous, and explain the process in exacting detail, giving us milestones for when we could expect the water to be turned off and turn back on as the line was replaced. Their house call Pro scheduling app made it very easy to communicate with the project manager as well as the technicians, and provided real-time tracking of their location and eta through the house call Pro app. I'm very thankful to Thomas E Clark and the LPRAP program for providing this service to the District of Columbia residents. I remember a time in DC when Department of Health came to houses that had young children and tested them for lead, I was one of those kids. The water may taste a little less sweet after today! But at least my kids won't have to deal with this lead problem in the future. What a wonderful program.
The team, led by Daz, did a phenomenal job. They exceeded my expectations on all fronts: professionalism, communication, efficiency, quality, reliability and cleanliness. Plus the team was very friendly and worked very well together as a team. Very nice people. On day one Daz called me to give a ‘heads up’ that he was on his way to arrive in 30 minutes, as planned. They organized in advance a ‘no parking zone’ in front of our house. Miguel, a T&C plumbing manager, joined the team and walked me through the work plan step by step. He and Daz explained what would be happening each day including measures to protect carpet, furniture and personal items from the drilling, and the removal / replacement of pavers and replacing grass in the front garden, which I really appreciated. There was no need for me to stick around and oversee the work since I was confident that I was in good hands. Daz sent me photos of each step from confirming the dug up connector pipe was indeed lead, to pics of the interior space wrapped in plastic up to the ceiling, holes dug in boiler room and external basement entryway, and final shots of copper pipes and refilled cement patches. The team did the work in stages efficiently, starting at 9.15 am and ending around 1-2 pm each day. Passed the inspection in the morning on 3rd day. I highly recommend Thomas & Clark with no hesitations.
I was approved by DOEE (DC Govt.) for the Lead Pipe Replacement Assistance Program (LPRAP). No out-of-pocket cost for DC residents once approved. From the list of approved plumbers I chose Thomas E. Clark, Inc. (TEC, Inc.). They responded immediately and had a rep. come out the same day for an inspection and proposal (btw receptionist was very friendly and knowledgeable). TEC, Inc. worked with DC DPW, DDOT and DOB for permits and scheduling (total wait time was a little over 30 days from initial contact). I didn't have to do anything but sign a couple of emails. Pipe replacement was done today and took only 4 hours to complete. Work looks great, clean job. TEC, Inc. guys were very friendly, professional (worked well with DPW who were also on site) and took precautions not to make a mess (inside and out). They cleaned up any little mess that was made and left my home as if they had never come. They kept me informed during the entire process letting me know when the water would be off, for how long and when they expected to be finished with the work. Scope of work is detailed in the proposal which may include cosmetic repairs such as drywall, grass seeds, mulch etc., if applicable (which is done on 2nd day upon completion of DC inspection). I highly recommend this company. Excellent customer service from start to finish!!!
I want to commend the team you sent to my house on Sept 3, 2024 to help me satisfy DC's Lead Pipe Replacement Assistance Program (LPRAP) requirements. Daz Carter, Kevon Carter, and Marcel Ramos demonstrated all the qualities that give me a great customer experience. They arrived at the time we had scheduled, were courteous and, professional. Most importantly, they thoroughly understood the intricacies of the LPRAP and were able to explain it to me in non-technical terms. Fortunately, after several hours of back-breaking excavation, we found as it turned out, the water service pipes going into my house were copper, not lead, so we didn't have to replace them! After several more hours they replaced the dirt and mulch in the flower garden in the front on my house so it looked like they had never been disturbed. I hope you can find some way to recognize Daz, Kevon, and Marcel. They are great ambassadors of Thomas E. Clark and I can certainly understand why your company has been in business for so many years and why your outstanding reputation precedes you.
TLDR: Good but very expensive. I had issues with my brand new HVAC system, which the installer wasn't willing to resolve anymore. These guys listened to the issue, promptly put me on schedule and a guy arrived at my place on time. He was knowledgeable and friendly. Diagnosed a couple of issues and presented solutions and costs. That's where I took off 1 star. First issue was that my drain pipe was clogged. The solution, cut the drain pipe and apply pressurized nitrogen to clear clog and cost, $320. Obviously I declined. All I had to do was to plug the end going into the air handler, and apply a little air pressure on the other end with my shop vac, and the drain cleared out in 5 mins of work. Second issue, my system was low on gas charge. Solution charge it up, but cost was a flat fee of $800 up to 5 lbs. That also I declined, in order to get it covered by my installer. I called a couple of other highly rated places to check, and most had more reasonable charges based on per pound of gas, instead of a flat slab.
I recently had the pleasure of receiving plumbing services from Thomas E Clark INC, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience. From start to finish, the technician {Alexander Covell} demonstrated a high level of professionalism, skill, and courtesy. He arrived on time, fully prepared, and immediately assessed the issue with confidence and clarity. His attention to detail and thorough explanation of the problem and proposed solution put me at ease right away. The work was completed efficiently and to a very high standard, leaving everything clean and functioning perfectly. It’s rare to find technicians who combine technical expertise with outstanding customer service, but Alexander delivered on both fronts. I highly recommend his services to anyone in need of reliable and expert plumbing work. A true professional!
I had called a different plumbing company that was having dispatching issues and tried to send two different plumbers who didn’t show up after waiting several hours. My neighbor had this company over to their house coincidentally fixing a drain issue. I asked the plumber if he could look at my drain when done and he fit me in. I had tried to snake the drain myself but couldn’t get past the block. This plumber was able to snake the drain, and used an apparatus he fixed to my hose to test the drain after snaking it. He was thorough and precise and tested it for a while til he was satisfied with its ability to drain. He also told me my drain is flat under the ground and suggested rebuilding it at an angle if I wanted to prevent the same issue from occurring.
These guys are absolutely great. We've had several different guys come out over the years. Most recently Efran, installed a submeter connection for us. He was thorough, thoughtful (making sure that the pipes they were installing were placed so that they didn't conflict with our shelving in the storage room), knowledgable and forward thinking. He helped us figure out how to improve our situation in ways we didn't even know we could. Rafael who came and gave the estimate was also very knowledgable and efficient. Theresa was very friendly and efficient on the phone. It seems these guys are still family owned and not owned by private equity - probably another reason that they were so good. Thanks.
We had a very complicated plumbing problem: replacing a 100 year-old main water shutoff valve. This required the team from Thomas E Clark to work carefully and quickly with the D.C. Water employee who had to turn off the water to our home and others in the neighborhood. Time was of the essence and the job had to be completed successfully so that we had control of our water supply in the event of an emergency. This team of plumbers stayed calm and focused on solving this difficult problem. Their plumbing work was A#1 and their attitude throughout was professional. We are very grateful to the people at Thomas E Clark who REALLY know how to fix things.
you guys are great. everything, from beginning to end, is personal and professional. Your phone people are efficient, courteous and helpful. They’re so unlike the disinterested and ill-informed people on most company call-in lines. The service techs come on time, communicate in advance and get the job done with a minimum of fuss. Just love it. Pricing, invoicing, bill payment is quick easy and reasonable. What sets Thomas Clark apart from the rest is that it's a good company that focuses on its core business and doesn’t try to do too much. You haven’t grown so big that you lose the ability to service your customers well. I appreciate that.
