It is our privilege to write this commendation on the services received from the plumbing Dr in Arlington, Va. From the time we scheduled an appointment to have repair services on our toilet with Tracey, to the repair completed by Ture, the overall service that we received was more than exemplary!! We were treated with the utmost humble respect and patience that any and all customers would expect. Tracey scheduled our appointment most efficiently as we had service the very next day. Her demeanor was very patient and detailed in outlining our needs and cost factors! True who provided us with his service was on time, very explanatory as to was needed and encouraged us to both ask any questions and even view the repairs that were needed. True provided us with answers and advice regarding our toilet issues presently and suggestions to avoid further issues in the future!! He was a great listener, had excellent communication skills and overall demeanor was extremely humanistic. As this was our very first time in calling upon the plumbing Dr for your issues we cannot be more appreciative with their outstanding service and professionalism! Our sincere thanks!!!! Incredible work by Turé. Walked me through what needed to happen after a pipe burst. Did the work at a much more reasonable price than a competitor. Will be using Plumbing Dr. for all future plumbing needs!
Exceptional! Skilled, honest plumbing companies are hard to come by. Bill (the owner), Turé, Ken, and Lloyd were all outstanding to work with. They took the time to understand a very mysterious leak in our home that required multiple technologies, experience, and real problem-solving know-how. They were amazingly clean, polite, communicative, professional, and genuinely ingenious in how they approached such a difficult issue. Their patience and thoroughness gave us complete confidence throughout the process. I’m very grateful for their expertise and highly recommend The Plumbing Dr. to anyone in Northern VA who needs a skilled, reliable team.
UPDATE: The technician who diagnosed my clogged kitchen sink drain was incorrect in their assessment. Upon further reflection, it's silly to think the technician could properly diagnose the issue considering they didn't even turn on the water. What ended up being a vapor lock caused by a clogged drain vent (diagnosed and fixed personally) was originally diagnosed as either a clogged drain pipe or improper drain design because of too sharp a turn in the piping. The MINIMUM estimate to fix what was improperly diagnosed was about $800-900 just to snake the drain. Other estimates for unnecessary work reached upwards of $2,500. Needless to say, I will not be using The Plumbing Dr again. ORIGINAL POST: Very knowledgeable, and honest with their recommendations. I had an issue with my kitchen sink drain, and they assessed the issue, proposed solutions, and advised on potential alternatives. Not pushy in their sales either, which I appreciated.
When I first purchased my house 1.5 years ago I asked The Plumbing Dr. to send someone out to make sure my sump pump system was in good shape. The plumber they sent said everything looked good, but it turns out there was no check valve installed or weep holes drilled which eventually caused a failure that dumped gallons of water into my basement. It turns out these are pretty basic parts of a sump pump system that all installs should have, but because I trusted the tech they sent to know that I now have bigger problems. Instead of a simple fix I have hundreds of dollars in plumbing costs and water damage to repair.
Adam from The Pipe Doctor was amazing. As soon as he walked in the front door and I told him the bathtub faucet was leaking he said the cartridge in the shower handle needed to be cleaned. He knew exactly what the problem was and was very patient with me while I asked about other possibilities I had found on Google (which obviously makes me an expert). He just knew without a doubt what the problem was. He said if he could just clean the cartridge the price would be about half the cost of replacing the cartridge with a new one. I agreed to both options in case the new cartridge had somehow become damaged. Once in the bathroom, he was surprised that the faucet handle was brand new, it had just been installed within the last month. Another plumber had installed the shower handle the previous month, I called that plumber when water leaked through the ceiling below after a shower a month later. He couldn't find the cause so he just caulked around the chrome plate. After he left it no longer leaked through the ceiling, but the faucet began a steady leak, that is when I called The Pipe Doctor. Adam found the newly installed cartridge was clogged with pieces of what appeared to be pipe liner. He pulled pieces out of the cartridge and then asked me to turn on the main water line for about 1 second to flush the line, I did this four times. After each of the first 3 flushes, he pulled liner out of the pipe. It ran clear after the fourth flush. The pieces measure from 1/2 inch to 2.5 inches long. He did not need to replace the cartridge as it had not been damaged. He could not guarantee this had cleared all the material out of the lines. He said the problem was not due to something the last plumber did. I did send that plumber an email just so he would know what to look for if another customer called with a leaking faucet. This repair stopped the leaking faucet, but after a shower the next day the ceiling below again began to leak, so there was still material in the pipes that would need to be flushed out. When Adam returned he said a possible source of this material would be the dip tube in the hot water heater, he wouldn't know until he installed a new hot water heater so he could take the old one apart. I already knew it was about time to replace my 1998 hot water heater. After replacing the hot water heater Adam found the dip tube in the old unit had deteriorated from almost 4 ft tall (the length of the hot water heater) to only 3.5 inches and what was left of it looked just like the material that had clogged my shower cartridge. I got a very good price for the hot water heater and installation, plus the 15% senior discount made the cost more than reasonable. Adam is a very upbeat, friendly, positive person. He explained to me every step of the way what he was doing, why, and what he found, as well as the cause. After I gave him his tip he told me any tips he receives are passed on to a good friend of Adam's, a clergyman, who uses the money to pay for medications for the elderly. I had called The Pipe Doctor a number of times before each of Adam's visits. Danielle was always friendly, courteous, and answered all my questions. I would like to thank her for all her help and patience. The Pipe Doctor is now my plumber, they are experts.
My recommendation: Do NOT call The Pipe Doctor. They were at my home in NVa recently to repair a small copper water pipe, broken due to the extreme freeze. I called on a Tuesday evening, but received no call back until the following morning. They arrived that Wednesday morning after 8:00 during regular business hours, and did resolve the problem, at least temporarily. First, their website states they provide free estimates, but I later discovered they actually don't - and when a company starts out lying to you, it's obviously a bad sign. Only one pipe had been damaged, but according to their plumbers, 2 pipes needed to be worked on because of their positioning; this seemed strange to me, but I accepted their assessment due to the need to get the job done and into work. The pipes were located in an odd place, and from their description of the difficulty of the job, I expected it would take several hours, require special parts, tools, etc., so I also accepted their estimate of $600. They finished in about an hour, with 45 minutes of time actually working on the repair, and did not re-fit the original copper pipes with new copper, but only applied some type of adaptor fittings and non-copper material. The water did function properly afterwards, so I paid the fee and requested an itemized invoice. I was told I'd be sent one by email, but the invoice I received did not provide any details on the parts, labor, additional charges for the service call and estimate, etc., and it was only upon receiving that invoice that I was informed there was no warranty on the job. I emailed this company 12 (twelve) times for additional information and a detailed invoice, with no response whatsoever. I later found what appear to be similar adaptor kits online for much less than $50; but even if both kits cost $50 each for a total of $100, that leaves $500 labor for a 45 minute job - over $500 an hour in labor costs alone. A similar issue on a different pipe occurred about 10 days later, and I of course did NOT call The Pipe doctor this time. I called another local company (Kinnett), after-hours on a Saturday afternoon. They returned the call, arrived and fixed the problem only a few hours later. They replaced the original copper pipe with new copper, in an area that required outside work and access under the floor. They responded more quickly, performed a much more extensive and difficult job on an after-hours emergency basis, provided all the billing details up front, and charged less than half the price of The Pipe Doctor. Again - Do NOT call The Pipe Doctor for any type of plumbing job - you will likely be grossly overcharged for what is at best average work, and there are many, much better local alternatives. Oh my, I'm absolutely shocked to see Gary responding to my initial review of 3 stars! Not only did I think he handled the whole situation poorly I'm now actually seeing that he's unable to be completely honest. I was sympathetic the loss of his grandfather, as I myself have just lost 2 son's in the last 5 year's. With that being said, all I said to Gary was you didn't leave any way of notifying your customers that you had a family emergency. Because he DID NOT tell me prior to leaving town. As a matter of fact he didn't even tell his own crew! Had he left someone to take calls, or even a message on his phone I'd have known! After reading my first review he called me and at first asked me to remove it. When I told him I would update it (which I thought I had) after the work was completed he demanded I take it down and even threatened not to come out and fix the mistake! At that point I will not be bullied or threatened and I told him that was up to him but the update would reflect that. His only saving grace in this matter was Lewis, who is the workmen that came out. I told Lewis that although I felt sorry for Gary's loss, his behavior was completely unacceptable and I would give them a update of only one additional star only because of his professionalism. Having owned my own small business, I do know that a simple phone message stating that you will not be available or due to a family emergency I will be out of town keeps your clients in the loop and your business running smoothly or if you have a trusted employee to run things while you're dealing with private matters. All this was preventable.
I hired The Plumbing Dr to replace a section of pipe connected to my bathtub. The work itself appears to be done well, and the team was professional on site. The quoted price was $1,190, but the final bill came to $1,531. While I was satisfied with the quality of the repair, I was not satisfied with how the final price was reached. One minor gripe I have is regarding the cleanup of the job site. Because the pipe was located in my crawl space, the plumbers had to remove insulation to access it. When the job was finished, the insulation was left on the ground instead of being put back in place. It’s not a major issue, but it did feel a bit sloppy. It’s possible my expectations were off and most plumbers would not replace the insulation. My bigger complaint was when it was time to pay. The mechanic informed me he needed to add a charge for snaking the line. He said the standard price was $391 but offered a discounted rate of $341. This was added to the original $1,190 estimate. I understand that unexpected issues can arise, but I believe I should have been notified before he did this work. When I asked whether he felt the extra charge was fair, he said yes. I disagreed, but no sense in arguing about it. Overall, the repair seems solid, but the lack of upfront communication about added costs left me disappointed. I had hoped to find my go‑to plumber, but based on this experience, The Plumbing Dr will be lower on my list for future work.
Shawn was awesome. The first time Gary came he was awesome, but after the first visit my voicemails went unanswered unless I called again. Gary was very unprofessional, he was rude and dismissive. I left him a voicemail asking for an earlier appointment date, when I didn't hear back I assumed the appointment was still on, it wasn't until I called him (30 minutes passed our appointment time) that he claimed to have left me several voicemails, and texts. Claims he called me several times without hearing from me. However during this time I got calls, voicemails, and texts from anyone else who attempted to reach me. He cancelled my appointment time all together. He continued to place the blame on me, even though in my voicemail I specifically said that if the earlier date couldn't be done then our original scheduled appointment would be fine. He just continued to tell me how I was wrong, and talked to me like I was an inconvenience, it was only after I asked him "what next" that he offered any resolution. If it weren't for Shawn, I would definitely have given a much worse review. Shawn deserves 5+ stars. Even after installation he followed up within an hour, as promised, and quickly came back when the water wasn't hot after an hour (gas gauge issue, not his fault). He was professional, and courteous. He was educated and informative. If I can work directly with Shawn every time then I will use them in the future.
I encountered a serious plumbing issue over the weekend and was fortunate to have Wendy from the Plumbing Dr assist me. She efficiently coordinated with and dispatched Harald, a skilled plumbing professional, to my condo. Wendy's thorough explanation over the phone prepared me for the process and potential problems. Harald came in the morning and conducted a diagnosis and identified the main sewage problem, which required him to shut off the water and remove the toilet. However, the valve associated with the toilet was frozen due to age. Coordination with the management office to access the water main valve for my unit was then needed. Harald, unable to proceed without permission, temporarily left for another job. Once I obtained clearance from the management office and informed Wendy, she promptly reconnected with Harald. He returned later in the evening, addressing issues with my toilet and bathtub and clearing the main pipe obstruction. I am very appreciative that this complex problem was resolved on a Sunday. Harald is an organized, confident, and friendly professional, while Wendy is responsive, thorough, helpful, and organized in her coordination efforts. It is evident that they genuinely want to help me out during this challenging situation on a rainy weekend. I extend my gratitude for their outstanding service and will recommend the Plumbing Dr to anyone in need of plumbing assistance.
Simply OUTSTANDING ! My hot water heater blew a hole through its relief valve and was jetting a high pressure stream of water into the ceiling and flooding the lower level of the house. First, telephone response within 1 hour, on an extended holiday weekend. Two other plumbing services had been contacted... One never called back, the other responded two days later. Second, dispatch of plumbers and arrival within 2 hours of the call on that same extended holiday weekend. Third, immediately impressed with the bearing and professionalism of the responding plumbers. They analyzed the problem and stopped the leak within minutes. Fourth, having stabilized the situation, they gave a precise, clear, detailed explanation of the options for repair, and the exact price for each option. Fifth, the work was done quickly and completely, all problems solved at the exact price offered. In Summary: I have never, in over 40 years of home ownership in different locations around the county, never, EVER found a better plumbing service than this. In fact, nothing else comes close. Finally, i wast gratefully amazed at the price, much, MUCH lower than what friends and relatives have been charged for similar service. Don't even bother calling anyone else. Call the Plumbing Doctor first.
Initially selected this company because their initial consultation fee seemed reasonable. The two plumbers arrived timely and conducted an initial assessment of the two toilets I need to have repaired both experiences the same issue. Then came the big surprise. I was told it would cost nearly $800 to fix two water fill valves because they had to turn the water off at the street blah blah blah. I was in the middle of a call so didn’t have much time to process the cost. So agreed to fix only one of the two. The job took less than 30 minutes which really made me wonder if I actually overpaid for the work. Now here comes the kicker. I googled the fix then went to Lowes the following day and purchased a $15 water fill valve and fixed the second toilet myself in about 20 minutes and trust me when I say I’m no repairman, which is why I initially made the phone call. I realize the repairman is under no obligation to do so but i would have felt much better about the experience if he had advised me that this was probably something i could have done myself. So yeah, i definitely feel like I over paid and will definitely NEVER use this particular company again. Even though it was an expensive lesson i now know how to do this work myself
Although I had previously used The Plumbing Dr and had excellent service, this service on 20 March 25 was extremely bad from the initial arrival to when I cancelled the service. I spoke to Wendy on 19 Mar 25 and was assured the service people would provide me the service I wanted. Drs Trey and Brandon arrived, and I showed them what I needed. Dr Trey told me he would rebuild the entire tank (not what I asked him). Both Drs went out to the truck and had lunch). I called Wendy to express my displeasure, and she told me to give them a chance (FYI: she didn't allow me to share my thoughts). When they returned from their lunch, they went to the kitchen and told me they didn't have the spouts or faucet in the truck (Wendy told me this morning that they had all parts in the truck). Dr Trey then pulled out a form which showed all the estimates with the lowest being higher than $800. At that moment, I cancelled the entire call. I assure the plumbing company that I will NEVER call them for plumbing work again.
Outstanding service from start to finish! From the moment I called, the experience was professional, friendly, and efficient. The staff answered right away, listened carefully to what I needed, and scheduled an appointment that worked perfectly with my schedule. The plumber arrived on time, introduced himself politely, and explained exactly what needed to be done before starting the job. The work itself was done quickly, neatly, and with great attention to detail. They respected my home, cleaned up completely when finished, and made sure I understood everything before leaving. Pricing was fair and transparent — no hidden fees, no surprises, and worth every penny for the quality of work provided. It’s rare to find a company these days that genuinely cares about their customers, but this team really stands out. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, honest, and skilled plumbers who take pride in what they do. I’ll definitely be using them again for any future plumbing needs.
