I had a very frustrating and disappointing experience with Roto-Rooter and would not recommend them based on my experience. I initially paid approximately $600 for a drain cleaning service. While the drain was cleared, the job felt incomplete because I was expecting a sewer scope inspection to identify the underlying issue. That never happened, and I was not provided with any video, documentation, or real explanation—just a price list with no supporting evidence. Things got worse from there. I scheduled follow-up service appointments, and the technicians failed to show up—not once, but multiple times. I drove to the property twice specifically to meet them, and they never arrived. Zach (Wilmington, DE branch) missed scheduled appointments and gave inconsistent communication. At one point, I was told there was a “family emergency,” but there was no follow-up or effort to properly reschedule. Another technician, Joe, was also scheduled to come out on a Saturday and never showed up. He didn’t call, text, or attempt to reschedule, which is completely unprofessional. To make matters worse: • I strongly believe at least one technician never actually returned to the property as claimed. • I was given an extremely high estimate without any proof of inspection (no video or images from a sewer scope). • The technicians made inappropriate and unrelated inquiries to tenants in the home. • At times, the interactions felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. There were also inconsistencies in how my property was classified (being labeled “commercial” due to tenants), which affected warranty terms and raised further concerns about transparency. Overall, I feel I paid for a service that was incomplete, dealt with multiple no-shows, and received poor communication and questionable business practices. I have since lost trust in this company and am pursuing a refund through my credit card provider. I strongly advise others to get everything in writing, demand video proof of any sewer scope, and consider alternative companies before using Roto-Rooter.

Edit: i’m updating to a three star review from a one star review due to Chris reaching out an offering a partial refund on the misdiagnose service. I had Roto-Rooter come out for a clogged toilet and shower. The technician immediately said the issue was a clogged main line and proceeded to snake the toilet—eventually getting the snake stuck in the toilet. It later became clear that the technician did not recognize that my home has a sump pump sewage ejector pit, which was actually the source of the issue. Because of this misdiagnosis, I ended up paying for work that was unnecessary and did not address the real problem. A few days later, a more senior technician came out and acknowledged that a plumber not recognizing an ejector pit should never be at the customer’s expense. He stated he believed I should receive at least a partial refund for the poor experience. Unfortunately, after following up multiple times, I never heard back. That lack of follow-through was just as disappointing as the original mistake. Edit: I’m updating to a 3 star review for having Chris reach out and talk with me about the concern and offering some compensation for the misdiagnosis. I understand that errors can happen, but poor diagnosis, unnecessary charges, and no response afterward made this a very frustrating experience. I expected better accountability from a company like Roto-Rooter. Because of this, I’ll be using a different plumbing company in the future.
