Ozzy was the best! He did a great job as always. I highly recommend him for the job!
Frank was excellent! Prompt, professional, and easy to talk to. He found the leak and we really appreciated his expertise.
Enrique was very professional and efficient at his work. Although this is the first time I’ve engaged Monkey Wrench and specifically Enrique, the way he worked in diagnosing the issue was methodical. Being an engineer myself, but this time around just an observer (while he worked on the Rheem unit) I would say his expertise is very evident - he’s definitely an asset to MW. Looking forward to having him back and finish the job full circle once the replacement parts arrive. Well done!
They are scammers. They plugged out our heater and ac and expected us to pay $9K on replacing it. FUCKING HELL NO! We got another company to fix it for less and told us that the company you got the plumbing installed was plugged out the heater and ac (mind you, our family was freezing for almost 2 weeks without heater in this winter) What the actual fuck! You guys are here to scam people and pay this much money in this economy. Bad company
I called Monkey wrench because my tanklless water heater was showing an error after the gas has been shut off for fumigation. The person they sent out said it would be 5- 8 business days before he could get the part. He also mentioned that the reason it wasn't working was because debris from when they did the fumigation got in the tank since it didn't have a filter. He also said they also I install filters too but they are pricy. I asked how much and to show it to me the filter. He showed me some gadget with their logo on it and said he could take care of the problem plus the filter for $3500. I played his game and asked him what was the best price he could do. He said he could do everything for $3200 and have the filter installed and the hot water running the next day. I thought to myself, didn't he just tell me 5-8 day for the part but since I agreed on the filter it could be fixed by tomorrow. I called another plumbing company, and they came out and noticed that the vent was taped up when they fumigated the house, and the water heater started working once the tape came off. Do your research because you call anyone. Read reviews. I give them 0 stars.
Called for service on a Daikin mini split unit that was sold and installed by LA Canada Air, which became monkey wrench plumbing and HVAC about 2 years ago, or so we were told. We then paid $650 last week to fix a leaking AC unit for the second time. The unit leaked again within 4 days. It's been fixed it evaluated 3x now. A different technician came back and said everything was fine and tried to sell me a service contract and blamed me for it being dirty even though he was the third person from monkey wrench to work in it in the last week. We never got to fixing the leaking unit. Eventually a rep on the phone said monkey wrench bought LA Canada air's customer list, not their contracts or commitments. They have no service records, and won't honor warranty or work. The technician said to call him if it leaked again. He didn't pick up the phone. Office said they would reach him and me call back. They didn't. By 4 pm all calls went to answering service which said office would call be back, they didn't. A pattern emerging. I'll update this review if they fix it. If no update, I would strongly suggest finding another company. David came back and was outstanding. He listened and worked with me. The first technician cleaned the unit. The second replaced the pump for $650. The third erroneously said the unit was dirty and misdiagnosed the pump sound, clearly demonstrating a profound lack of understanding. I'm not a mechanic and I clearly understood the unit much better than him. The fourth technician, David, did a great job. Eventually, we determined that there was a problem with the coupling that holds the fuse. Turns out I never needed a pump, there was no issue with anything other than a connection. While it took a while to get there, David basically listened to my experience with the unit, methodically tested different hypotheses and ultimately arrived at a durable solution. I'd welcome David back in a heartbeat. I've informed Monkey Wrench that I would not allow that third technician anywhere near my equipment. If you use them, be weary of recommendations that don't make sense. BTW - it was same with La Canada Air, some stars, but also some duds. Neither company does a great job of vetting and overseeing employee quality.
I wasn't going to write anything because it makes me so angry every time I think about it. I'm only writing this now because they keep sending me flyers even though they said they'd stop sending them after I called and requested to be removed from their mailing list. About 5-6 years ago, they installed our toilet. That was fine, but they banged up the door knob while carrying the toilet inside the bathroom, which ok, things happen, but it was annoying that they didn't even say anything. Then a couple of years later, we had an unknown leak that caused the hot water to stay on all the time. We tried calling some other companies, but they weren't servicing our area, so we ended up calling Monkey Wrench again. Two guys came and assessed the bathroom, and told us there was a leak and corrosion behind the walls of the bathtub. They quoted around $5500 to fix the leak, plus new faucet. We were horrified but felt like we had no choice, since the hot water leakage was costing so much money already. Our next door neighbor all had a leak at the same time, and their plumber found the ACTUAL issue which was the pipes from our unit which travel under our downstairs neighbor's floor and were leaking over there. That was the singular problem that caused everyone's leaks. They got the HOA to fix the pipes, and luckily everything was taken care of right before we paid Monkey Wrench to "fix" the problem in our bathroom that did not actually exist. Later, we decided to change our bathtub faucet, and a different plumber looked behind the wall and found zero corrosion or leakage, confirming that the previous assessment by Monkey Wrench, *which they wanted to charge us $5500 to fix* was completely wrong. Monkey Wrench cannot be trusted.
Unfortunately this vendor was very dishonest with their assessment and quotes! Flat-out lying and quoting giant unnecessary costs! They came to my home to assess an issue with our Tankless Hot Water Heater...the Technician Enrique said there was a major leak + other components were worn out. He recommended replacing the entire unit, which would cost over 7K. He also offered a "patch" repair for about 1.2K (if I remember correctly), but said this would get the system going again--but it would likely break in the near future and we'd have to replace the whole system. He was highly selling a full system replacement. He was a good salesman and very convincing. We felt like he was legit. But we decided to do our due diligence and we hired another company for a 2nd opinion. They said the ignition rods were dirty and they cleaned them off. This completely solved our problems! This was a FREE SERVICE. They also said there was no leak, no worn out components, and no other issues with the Hot Water Heater!!!! They said it should easily last more years before needing to be replaced! It's pretty crazy that Enrique/Monkey Wrench invented a whole problem out of thin air and tried to charge us a humongous bill for something that was fixed in 5 minutes and done for free. This is the kind of thing I always fear when dealing with Home or Auto repair...of being swindled by a company! Monkey Wrench was very organized, polite, & easy to make appointments with. The company is run very well on the surface, but that must be a guise that allows them to rip off customers :(
Water heater replaced to tankless .... Detailed review below I contacted monkey wrench for a water heater repair. I was great by LUIS who was very knowledgeable and gave me all my options. Water heater was at the end of the warranty (5 years) and I ultimately decided to go with tankless. JOSE came out a few hours later with all the parts required for the job. He was very professional. His knowledge of the job and skills are amazing. He was actually excited to do the job (which is rare these days). The day he came to install the unit it was raining and wet outside. His attention to detail started at the door. He dried his boots every time he came in and put booties over them. His install was perfect and made sure I was aware of the step by step process. Once he was done he made sure he cleaned up his work area like he was never there. He made sure I could set up the tankless water heater to my phone since it has Wi-Fi. He explained everything about it to me as well and his install. If I had to do any other plumbing job I would want JOSE to show up. Based on his knowledge I hope that he is able to supervisor and train others to be like him. I wish all plumbers were like JOSE they would make the experience actually less stressful and enjoyable. Thank you JOSE for being the best plumber I have ever had to use. I don't know if monkey wrench is the best price company but I know one thing the people are amazing. They are worth the price for the quality of work and attention to details. Customer service was absolutely #1.
This review is specifically regarding their estimate process as we have not gotten actual work done. From reaching out for a quote to having a technician come out, the process was incredibly easy and seamless. Their team is very easy to communicate with reliable. Our technician was Luis M. and the following words come from my mom, who was the main person on this project. The dispatch provides a text and email with tracking of ETA, name, and photo so you know you're not getting any suspicious. Luis spent the time with my mom and was the most thorough tech she's dealt with and we've now received quotes from five companies/plumbers. He spent time explaining things, did things he didn't even need to do, helped with some small items, and ended up staying out here for a few hours to help determine cost and what would be needed. While we still determine our best option (pricing being the main factor), if money was no object, we'd absolutely go with Monkey Wrench in a heartbeat. While I'm sure the prices are worth the service, we just have a lot of other factors to consider but wish we could definitely choose them now. Disclaimer: we reached out on a Thursday night and heard back Friday with no tech being able to come out til Monday, which was okay for us cause we weren't having an emergency issue. We were also told of a 9-12 dispatch time and he arrived just after 12, which was no problem to us but may be a concern for others.
Too bad I can't leave ZERO stars as I almost got taken to the cleaners by the company that bought La Canada Air Conditioning. But let's start at the beginning. I have a five year maintenance service agreement with La Canada Air. I couldn't remember them coming this summer to check and I dug up the service receipts and it was last serviced October 2021. (my bad for not having it in my appointment calender) but Shirley had always called me when a check-up was due. So I called and found out that both Shirley and Joe had retired. Monkey Wrench Plumbing, Heating & Air bought the business and they came out. After the service guy asked me if I had a new filter, I was a little taken back and said no as it was included in my contract that they should supply one. (I had to send them a copy of my contract). Then he tells me about all the parts that need to be replaced as they are not within manufacturing range to the cost of $2,100. Or I could replace the heating unit for $9,750. The unit is only 7 yr old. I said thanks and I'll call them. I called a reputable company to have them check if it was really as bad as Monkey Wrench said. Answer.....NO Talk about trying to rip me off and take advantage of a retiree.
Completely screwed over by dispatch. Never using them again and I hope you don't either. We lost our water heater the evening before a holiday and needed to get the new part shipped to us. On Friday morning at 9:31am, we got a package from FedEx with the part. At 9:34am, I was on the phone with Monkey Wrench to book a service call for the part install. I was given a window of 3-6pm. No news, no updates from them until 4:34pm when the dispatch calls to tell me their service person was on another call and wasn't going to make it. They would come on Monday. At this point it had been a working week since we had hot water and I asked them for another solution. At 5:42 they called again saying they could not make it and there was no other solution. I got another call at 5:55pm from a manager saying they'd send the contact information for a 24 hour service company. Now, they weren't offering any consolation for having to pay for a 24-hour service, they were just offing us off onto someone else. Lots of opportunities to make something right. They took 3 calls to not use any of those opportunities. Lots of fish in the sea. Will surely never use these ones again and neither should you.
CROOKS!! Trust the bad reviews on here. These people are crooks! Noritz tankless water heater system had an error code after being installed for less than 2 years. Rick said we had to replace the heat exchanger and pay 3k for something that was still under warranty! The minute he left the house we didn't have any more hot water. Never came back to fix anything. We called them at least five times to come back and get us hot water while waiting for the part they told us was broken. Thank God they did not come back otherwise we would not have found a great person who is honest and cares about their customer. Another plumber came a week later, didn't have to replace anything but said someone "messed" with our water heater and lo and behold we have hot water again. Without replacing or fixing anything Monkeywrench said we needed to fix! Did you think you could pressure us into paying you because we didn't have hot water? Your practices are not only unethical but illegal. We have an elderly grandma and handicapped child you sick people! We will report you to the BBB and state license board. And don't bother putting "pending resolution" in the comments.
Are we in an alternate universe with Monkey Wrench??? While I appreciate their assistance with a hot water boiler last year, my latest experience for HVAC system estimate was TERRIBLE! (1) Lack of communication leading to NO SHOW by the assigned service estimator. Only after I called their office repeatedly, did he finally showed up. Sounded like a nice guy and he blamed the mess up on back office communication (2) He agreed to send estimates with a couple of options. Next day, instead of receiving the estimate, I got an AI automated message to "follow up" on the estimates. And the AI system tried to impersonate a real person, and keeps giving dumb responses. (3) I called their office asking to speak to that "real person" behind the AI messages. I got to him, and he fumbles around the estimates, sent me one of the estimates which does not represent the recommended options as we discussed with the estimator, and upon my questions, he sounded clueless of what we were looking for. So I hung up. Seriously??? What is going on with the management team there??? thank you for wasting our time.
I chuckled as I read the comments. I wonder how many people were asked to leave a 5-star review due to the "prizes" they are awarded for good reviews. After dealing with a company that did that in the past, I've always decided to wait before giving a review. I wouldn't refer Monkey Wrench to my worst enemy! Of course they send someone out that seems very knowledgeable, but then they slip "newbies" in for the repair. All I can say is that they are overpriced and their "workers" Do sloppy work. They had to come back to our home numerous times to correct their own issues. It's so interesting that they also let me know that there was an issue with the vertical stack and quoted me 12k! It was needed, but I just had it completed for 1/3 of the price, and it is quality work! They also told me I needed to add a new cleanout due to the distance. Guess they can't measure either because an additional cleanout was not required. What I find the most interesting is that the plumber that came out said he doesn't even use the company he works for!
