What To Watch Out For

Scheduling slipped on a 2020 condo angle valve job — appointment missed because the office didn't coordinate building water turn-off signs with management

One reviewer felt the customer service phone staff were crabby and condescending; tech reused old PVC instead of replacing it

Pricing

Pricing comes in well below competitors — one customer paid $195 vs $700 quoted by another shop for the same wax-ring toilet reseal

MidCity Plumbing is a wonderful company to work with and one I would highly recommend. Every person I talked to on the phone, or in person, was competent, efficient, respectful and personable. Billy came to check on a leak and flush my water heater system. He arrived right on time, determined the leak was from the refrigerator line, pulled out the fridge to find the culprit and started the heater flush so I could get the chance to clean under the fridge before he repaired the leak & put the fridge back in place. While the flush was continuing he repaired the leak and moved the refrigerator back. Once the flush was complete he checked all the faucets to make sure all was performing right. He asked if I needed him to check on anything else and was very tolerant of all my stupid questions. I cannot say enough good things about him and the company in general.

I cannot say enough about This company. Every time I’ve used them I’ve been nothing but completely satisfied. I’ve also received compliments from my tenants that the plumbers are always professional, kind and very Skilled at what they do. I would highly recommend them.

I cant tell you enough good things about Mario, his office help to his plumbling crew just everyone. We have been using midcity for years. Since I became president of a 49 unit association I new they could help us out when we needed it and they have by saving us a couple thousands just on one thing. They have good employees, good prices and very good work.I appreciate each and every one that works for them. If you are thinking about calling someone else. What will it hurt to try them. THANK YOU MIDCITY!!!!!

I needed a new gray water sump pump. They knew I needed it quick as I was leaving town. The pump was $500. They charge me another $500 labor for about one hour worth of work. The Customer service answering the phone crabby. Condescending and disrespectful. Techs didn't even change my check valve, or original pvc piping, I had to give them materials I had. Overall sure they did an OK job but I wouldn't recommend them.

Called 11/30/20:Made an appointment to have angle valve changed in condo for 12/2. Mid City never contacted management company to post signs for water turn off. Called after scheduled appointment time to discuss scheduling conflict and then obviously couldn't come for appointment!! Duh! Finally contacted Reliable management on Wednesday 12/1 to get another appointment and have water turned off. Knew actually coming because signs posted at condo regarding water turn off. After waiting until 10am for a 9am appointment, was notified that would be to my condo by noon. Not an issue, took another day off of work...... Plumber showed up. Took about 45 minutes to replace. Charged outrageous fee of $220.... after being late and all the miscommunication... Plumber didn't even check if shower or kitchen faucet worked. Just went his merry way! Now I'm blacklisted for calling the plumber an idiot, like they are the only plumber in Chicago!! Do not use. They have no skills from answering the phone, scheduling appointments, to their craftsmanship of their supposed licensed plumbers!!!!! Now I need to pay $75 to have the water turned off in my unit per Reliable Condo Management..... lol

Hot water tank stopped working after 9 years. Called my best friend Mark Guerra, whose brother Tom owns Metropolitan Heating and A/C. Mark immediately said call Mid City Plumbing. So it was after hours, answering service took a message. This guy calls me back named Chris, my friend said make sure I talk to Mario or his son. This Chris guy didn't know anyone by that name but said all us plumbers work together. So I realized that this wasn't the Mid City I wanted. But, beware, if you google Mid City Plumbers there are a lot of numbers that show up. Make sure you are working with Mario. After getting the right number, Industrial Drive, Itasca, I spoke with Mario and he'd send someone first thing Sat am. 8:30 next morning get a courtesy call that they would be here in 15 minutes. Mike and his helper came with Masks, booties on and introduced themselves. I showed them where the old heater was located. Mike was really a nice guy, straight shooter, told me that wasn't worth trying to fix because there wouldn't be much life left in a 9yr old heater and better to replace now. So 3-4 hours later Mike, his helper, and my old water heater were driving away. We had hot water again and felt extremely confident about the finished product. Quality, quality, quality is what you want when it comes to Plumbing, especially when working with natural gas. It probably cost me a little extra because it was Saturday, but with 3 women wanting hot baths, showers it was worth not waiting until Monday. Great experience all the way around. Mario, you run a great business and anyone in the area, call his company first. And Mike, great work and a pleasure.Highly recommend !!

All I can say is that this is the worst plumber or handyman we have ever used. Our toilet was leaking, they came and reset the toilet and supply line. During the visit, the plumber said that he adjusted it so that it would use more water with every flush and work more efficiently. Immediately after they came, our shower in the same bathroom starting having the temperature go from comfortable to scalding every 5-10 minutes in the shower. Clearly, cold water was being diverted from the shower to the toilet -- searching on google found tons of pages stating that would be the case. We called them to come back and fix it, and they sent a different plumber who refused to acknowledge that there could be any connection between the work they did on the toilet and the shower issue that suddenly arose. He simultaneously said that there was no issue in the shower and that the issue in the shower was caused by needing a new cartridge. I told him that we will not hire him to do anything to the shower, and I just wanted him to adjust the supply line to the toilet back to what it was. He claimed the first guy didn't do anything to the supply line, despite the receipt clearly stating that he did. He refused to even look at the receipt and basically implied I was insane for thinking that doing something to the toilet would have any impact on the adjacent shower. We called their office again and their receptionist said that they will never be coming to our house again. So now we're out $185 for a worse situation than we had before.

Another local favorite business. Midcity Plumbing is a great example of of what a professional business is. My day started as what a Monday is expected to start like. Took a shower to go to work only to find that my sewage pump stopped working. I had water overflowing from where the pump is through out my lower lvl. I quickly started cleaning up the water. Once i cleaned up the water I went online in search of a plumbing company that could come out same day, I found Midcity Plumbing and liked their reviews. Gave them a call and they had someone out to me in about an hour. Greg found that my sewage pump had failed, I still had warranty on it from Menards since I had replaced it less than 9 months ago by a relative. After going to Menards to exchange the Sewage pump I called Midcity Plumbing to come install the replacement pump. Mario came out the do the install. Mario was Professional with the care and detail he put into his work. Mario was also very courteous, all great working traits I didn't expect to see in a young laborer. Mario showed me everything he did during the installation , most I wouldn't have expected him to do, he went above and beyond to do his job right. Mario takes pride in his profession and it shows in his work. I was more than satisfied with Midcity Plumbing and their crew. I will call them for all my plumbing needs in the future and recommend them to anyone looking for any plumbing work. Professional,Trustworthy & qick response.

Had Midcity out to rod the roots out of our sewer, but after a couple of hours of work, Dave informed me that the roots were too built up for them to get from the existing access. We needed to have an exterior access installed, which meant digging up the sewer line. A huge $$$ hit compared to a simple rodding. He gave us an estimate, and told us they wouldn't charge us for the rodding he'd done. When Mario and his crew showed up, they ended up having to dig twice as deep as they'd thought to get to the pipe, broke out the old line, put in a new section with the clean out access, cleaned everything up and were done around midday. Mario told me before he left that he'd schedule for them to be back in the spring to add more fill after the excavation settled, and invoiced me for the exact amount of the estimate, no extra charge for the deeper dig. An hour later a 2nd crew showed up to completely rod out the line from the house to the street, which took them until after 5:00. All told a solid full day, with 5 guys involved. I've since spoken with friends that have had similar work done, and Midcity's price was very competitive. But their level of expertise, the pristine condition they left our front yard in, and their thoroughness put them over the top..Very highly recommended. They made a homeowner's nightmare as bearable as possible. Oh, and they did all of this on one of the coldest days this February.

We have been using MidCity Plumbing for the last 20 years. Their pricing is in line with other plumbing companies and there is know plumbing company that can beat their professionalism , experience and knowledge. I have actually saved money by using Mid City because in the beginning of our homeownership other plumbing companies would tell me that I needed more work only to have Mid City come out and give me the truth about my plumbing problems ! This a family owned business and if you have questions the owner Mario will actually call you back to work with you through your plumbing issues. All their plumbers that have come out to my home have been outstanding and knowledgeable. Andy and Daniel just finished installing a toilet at our home and they were outstanding. They were professional, knowledgeable and efficient. Andy has been at our home before and has always done a great job . As a matter of fact because he is so good I sometimes want to ask if they could send him to do the work on my home. We have an older home in the city so sometimes it takes a little more effort to make things work but Andy and Daniel took their time and explained and showed me the work every step of the way ! Thank you Andy and Daniel !! I have recommended Mid City to all my family and friends for their plumbing needs . Make Mid City plumbing your plumbing expert

If I could give negative stars, I would!!! Robbers without guns! Beware of Mid City Plumbing! These guys came out to put a steam unit in our existing shower. Okay professional at first. Had to sign contract first, half of the money up front, great. Second, different set of guys came out to remove trim work and toilet in same bathroom where steam will go. Okay on the spot $305. Called them to put back same trim and toilet they removed, different guy came, said my bathroom was a mess, didn't even finish replacing all the trim. Called back to say hey stuff is hanging in my shower! Sent a different set of guys who didn't put back toilet yet. Received a call from Mid City saying I need your credit card for $385!!! For what??? To put trim back on in shower. Not even $305, $385!!!! For the kicker, they will charge us again to put back toilet they removed!!!!!! Found these guys on Yelp, will never use Yelp to find trades again. I think these guys write their own 5 star reviews!! If you use them, beware of extra costs.

Howdy! This is my first experience as a homeowner needing a plumber. My husband has used Midcity Plumbing in the past so when we thought we might have a clog or a broken pipe, it was my turn to call. They answered the phone when I called. Mario, the owner, called back within the hour to further discuss the problem(s) we were having. He sent out a crew first thing the next morning to evaluate the situation. Two days later, permits were secured (they did everything!) and promptly at 8am, the work began. If it's possible to be "thrilled" with spending money on a plumbing job, I was! I talked to our new neighbors and they said someone else down the street had the same problem fixed and paid $1200 more than we did. The price was right, the service was EXCELLENT, and the crew cleaned up beautifully. Mario and his crew were great. The guys really seem to enjoy their jobs and working with each other as a crew. Now if the rest of our move-in project contractors are this wonderful, I'm the luckiest girl in the world! :)

Stop searching for a plumber because Midcity is the best of the best. Honest, reliable, friendly, patient, and smart are just a few ways to describe this team of professionals. We have Midcity work on all of our plumbing needs. I recommend Midcity to all our family and friends in the Chicago area because you know their service is unparalleled. Who else drives to your house at all hours to fix a faucet and with a smile? Mario and his team are always there to help. We have had Midcity work at multiple residences over the years from sump pumps to faucets to drains to major water lines. The team stands by you to offer advice and explain the jobs. We trust these guys like they are family because they stand behind their work and get the job done correctly every single time. Honestly, you're lucky if you choose to use Midcity plumbing because Mario, Mario jr, and all plumbers have your back and will get the job done professionally as if the property was one of their own.

So I’m not sure if I can explain how impressed I am with what Midcity did for us today honestly. I don’t normally do reviews on home service contractors elec plumbing etc…I’m way more into food reviews however when a company provides a service at our home that exceeds any dining experience I can’t help but let other people know how good they were. I don’t even know them from Adam so it’s even more impressive to me what they did. Our hot water heater decided to end its career without notice and if you’ve ever been in that situation it’s not great. Anyway when I called they said they would call me back and see if they could come out later that day. Well not only did they come out that day they took care of everything while I was at work and we had hot water the same day. If you’re in a pinch like we were Midcity is definitely worth reaching out to. Can’t say enough good things about them. THANK YOU Midcity!!

I just purchased a new condo and after about a month, I noticed a sewer smell in my bathroom and started seeing water seeping in from behind the toilet. The HOA recommended these guys and I will be forever grateful. Turned out the seal was leaking under the toilet and MidCity said it looked like it's been leaking for a very long time. I was grossed out, thinking I would have to clean all of that up, but the workers did it all. They brought a new seal that fit my toilet base, had their own garbage bags, paper towels, and caulking. I didn't have to supply anything but the bleach. They cleaned it all up, recaulked the toilet, and even fixed the water pressure in my kitchen. They were awesome! Very professional, and very quick. The whole process was finished before my lunch hour was over. I will recommend them to everyone I know. 10 stars!!!
