Everyone at Golden West is great, including the office staff. Josh who was the lead Tech is processional and knowledgeable, the same applies for Riley their electrician. These guys go above and beyond to repair and diagnose any problems. They are my go to company for any plumbing, heating and air-conditioning services. Try them, you won’t be disappointed, they are the BEST IN TOWN!
Anthony L. did an exceptional job! From the start, he attentively listened to our electrical requirements, was incredibly polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. In a matter of several hours he designed and installed an appropriate electrical upgrade, all while adhering to our budget. I highly recommend Golden West Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning , and Electrical to neighbors, friends and family!
Jason was fantastic. He took the time to carefully diagnose what was, at first glance, a simple fix on our boiler. After investigating thoroughly, he uncovered a mistake made during installation and got it fixed the next day. He showed that he really cared and was very professional. Great experience.
Two stars instead of one due to the knowledge and experience of the two guys who worked their tails off to try to sell me a new furnace I didn't need and five different line items of unnecessary fixes to my A/C unit. (Confirmed independently by two other companies that I called out afterward and by a third company associated with my condo unit.) Serious price gouging. Big time sales pitch. Steer clear.
Worst experience ever. Do not ever use these dishonest clowns. One of our showers would not turn off. It was Christmas Eve and all of the hardware stores were closed. We called these guys and the technician arrived promptly within the window promised. This is where things got bad. I should have known something was wrong when he walked through the door because his body odor was so bad we could barely keep from coughing. It smelled like he had not showered in days and we could smell it even after he left - first indication of the lack of professionalism. But whatever. I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is the dishonest up selling that happened next. He went up to the shower and did not even inspect it. Didn't look at it with a flashlight, didn't turn on the water to the house to see where it was leaking or anything. Apparently he has x-ray vision and could diagnose the problem through the wall just standing outside of the shower. He must be that good. Then he said he had to go to his truck to write up some "scenarios" After about 10 minutes he came back with a piece of paper where he slowly revealed different doomsday scenarios that we might be looking at even though he had not done anything to look at the faucet. Of course it started out with the shocking worst case scenario of $2,000, but only 1,600 if we signed up for their subscription service which included furnace cleaning. Huh? The rest of his pitch was little more than aggressively trying to sell me this subscription service which I suspect he gets commission for. He kept coming back to discounts on furnace cleaning. Hello it is Christmas Eve and I have a leaking faucet and now I have this guy with horrific body odor trying to sell me subscription services not even listening to me. He finally gets down to the bottom line which was a $400 charge on top of the hundred and thirty I had already paid for the service call. He said this was for the faucet cartridge. I told him that is what I already suspected and had looked it up online and saw that the part was $30 and installs in seconds. I asked him what the 400 was for and he said it covered the "warranty and his testing." I asked him to leave at that point. We limped through Christmas day just fine. This morning I went and bought the part for thirty bucks and from the moment I walked in the door two when I had the water back on and checked for leaks it took 8 minutes. This was going to cost me $400 from these guys. Subtract the $30 part and even if I generously say a total of thirty minutes at my house, which is very generous given that he spent more time trying to sell me a subscription service than he did looking at my faucet, and you're over $700 an hour. Oh and the part is warranted through Moen and they have a free helpline if you need any assistance.
This was my first time attending to use this company. The office was great when booking and accommodate my request. I had reached out a week prior to schedule a simple generator connection. On the date of service I received a call from the tech on site with a quote to connect the generator that we supplied to the portable building we provided as well. I was quoted right at 6,000.00 to simply connect the generator. It was less than 60 ft. No digging, no trenching, no back filling. So if you do the math, that's $ 100.00 a linear ft. To simply connect 4 wires on each end and leave a cord laying on the ground. What they failed to realize is I was having the same exact thing done at 31 other locations the same day at all of the NFL practice facility. The highest quote I received that day was $ 2,000 I shared this with the tech onsite, and he still want to charge the same amount. At that point I assumed it was just a tech trying to take advantage of the situation. So I immediately called the office and requested to speak to a supervisor or manager. The office assured me that someone would reach out. I waited for almost an hour, and had to call the office for a second time. I had the pleasure of speaking to a young lady, I explained the situation and that I was awaiting a call back from a manager or a supervisor, she informed me that she was a supervisor, and even after explaining that 31 other sites across the US were completed the same day, performing the same exact service was for $ 2,000.00 or less. I even told her that I use a national electric company that is one of the most expensive electrican that you can find, and they still came in under the $ 2,000 mark. She informed me that the price is what it is, I requested to speak to the owner or higher power. She informed me once again, that if her tech says it that price, then thats what it is. I politely ask if they would rather lose a customer then discussing the price. I never ask them to match the price, I would of even been ok with per say 3,000 for the simple fact we were trying to meet a dead line. Needless to say, I told them to have a good day. I reached out to another local very well known electrican with 20 years of experience and was quoted less than 2,000 for same except service. I shared the price I was quoted and we shared a long good laugh. The new electrican said he needed a good laugh today ! I can not speak on there quality of work, because we never made it that far. As far as there pricing, they would only have to do a job a week to stay a float. Very disappointing situation, I truly feel they knew we had deadline to meet, and was truly taking advantage of the situation. I have been a contractor for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working with some really great contractors in my time. Unfortunately you run across employees like this that give a industry a bad name. I truly feel if I was able to speak to upper management, that a resolution could of been meet. We will never know, now. Please be careful when using this company, I would highly recommend getting multiple quotes. To ensure your not being taken for a ride.
25 MAR 2025 Golden West continues to have the best technicians. Had Jimmy Royston out to look at our air handler which was making a weird humming noise. Have never had an issue which Golden West couldn’t resolve. ————————————————————————— 12 NOV 2025 Golden West does it all. They are my first choice for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Last year they replaced my dead air conditioner with a heat pump - fantastic! And definitely saw a drop in my energy expenses. This recent trip was to do yearly service for my heat pump and steam boiler. Chris VanMeter and Jason Royston are invaluable! ————————————————————————- 22 SEP 2023 Golden West continue to be my top choice for HVAC, heating, plumbing, and electrical support. Had a recent leak repaired that turned into a much more challenging job than expected - part of the fun living in a 100 year old house. And then worked closely with Jason Royster (genius when it comes to HVAC and heating) as I get ready for the dreaded HVAC replacement. Golden West is the place for your support needs. ——————————————————————— 12 APR 2023 Had Golden West perform a inspection of my AC service prior to the warm days of spring and summer arriving - focusing specifically on my mini-splits which were installed early last year. The mini-splits have lost coolant twice over the past year, preventing them from doing anything other than blowing air. Golden West (Carlos) completely disassembled the systems to inspect everything, refilled the coolant/refrigerant, conducted a pressurization test, and got everything back functional again. His work certainly appears to be much more thorough than the original installers - and I'm left feeling much more confident about the work and the future support. Golden West is my GO TO for all heating and air-conditioning challenges! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20 FEB 2023 Denver inspectors wanted a few things corrected from the previous work, and Golden West quickly scheduled the updated repair service. I reviewed with the service technician (Manny) what I remembered the inspector had identified, and he also reviewed the notes Golden West had received, and he went to work. On completion he reviewed the original comments, and went over all of the work he performed to address the issues, and then reviewed Golden West’s support and commitment to excellence. Golden West is fantastic! —————————————————————————————————————- 20 JAN 2023 Our water heater stopped working just before a weekend, and we called frantically, hoping that warm showers were once again in our near future. Though originally they weren’t going to be able to see us for at least a day - an hour later they called and said they’d be able to service us that morning. Woohoo! Turns out our water heater was at the end of its life, and they went through all of the issues and presented several courses of action. Once we made a decision, they were thorough, focused, and completely replaced my water heater and added a 10 year warranty, and went over full care and maintenance. Golden West is fantastic!
DO NOT TRUST! The technician was friendly and competent; the pricing is abusive of customers. My father owns a heating and cooling company so I have worked on furnaces and air conditioners all my life. I recently moved to Denver, bought a home, and am not as familiar with swamp coolers. My swamp cooler is 3 years old, I needed to get it prepped for the summer. I read the manual, removed the cover, cleaned the pads. At the point I needed to connect the water line decided to hire out to ensure it was done correctly my first time. Golden West quoted $198 to open for season vs. others (the original installer) at $248 for both opening and closing the cooler for the season. GW said closing would be an additional $198. The weather is heating up so I reluctantly decided to bite the bullet and go with them. When I asked, the technician let me know that the website coupon claiming "$50 off Any Work Performed" wasn't available for this service because this was already a "special price." Laughable, false advertising. He came out, performed the same tasks I did in addition to attaching the water line solenoid valve (4 minute process). He stopped when he couldn't find the outside water line valve, which I assume the previous owner of my home took with her. He said he would need to charge me $150 for the part, which is available in any hardware store for $8 - $10 (it's a Brass Evaporator Cooler Valve, 3/4" NPT Female). That's a 1500% markup for the part. I told him that was unacceptable, and I couldn't believe they ask that of people. He mentioned people pay it, the value of Golden West is their availability, not their price. He removed the solenoid valve when I declined the $150 for the part. He was here a total of 12 minutes before speaking with his office about the situation. They decided they'd cut me a deal on this trip and only charge me $189. That's basically $189 to connect and remove the water line solenoid valve at the bargain price of $945 per hour. No thanks. I let him know I would not be paying given how absurd the thought of this was. I spoke with the office, they decided to remove the charge and put me on their do not service list, which you can guess was a what I decided to do with them as well. The technician did his job, was friendly, I have no complaints with him. My complaint is with the business practices of Golden West, taking advantage of consumers. I highly recommend saving your time and $$ by looking elsewhere.
5/1/26: and now they are harassing me!! I have “unsubscribed” from email and calls, and yet they are still calling me. Three different numbers, three different people. Block. Another one. Block. Another one. This is ridiculous. Another reason to skip this company and go elsewhere! I suggest that everyone stay away from these greedy scammers. You can find much better plumbers at far far less than their ridiculous prices. I needed a very simple shower repair such as the cartridge needing to be replaced. They quoted nearly $900. I asked what was the price of the part and the labor. The first answer was, we don’t give those answers, we just charge a flat price for a cartridge replacement. I asked again what is the price of the parts compared to the price of the labor. This time the answer was $200 for the part and nearly $700 for the labor. I asked how much time do you expect to spend on replacing the cartridge? The answer was maybe an hour. So wait a minute, you’re charging me nearly $700 for a one hour visit to replace the cartridge? That seems insanely high. The plumber’s response? Well you’re paying for my expertise with identifying which cartridge you need. What?? I think I can identify what replacement cartridges needed with my level of education, thank you so much. So we simply ended the visit and I went and got the exact replacement cartridge for $60. Not 200. Less than 1/3 the price. That’s a ridiculous markup by this plumbing company. But then I went online and found a local independent plumbing company with much higher Google reviews than these people. And ask them what would be the price to replace the cartridge. The answer was approximately $325. I hired them in a heartbeat. And this group came out within two hours and was the most friendly and knowledgeable and genuine folks I’ve ever encountered. They replaced the cartridge and did a cleanup. No problems at all and everything is back to normal. So I found myself a better plumbing company than these charlatans. And at less than half the cost that these greedy people tried to get out of me. Don’t settle for a group like this who tries to spin the argument of we just do a flat fee, regardless of how many hours and that benefits you if we go over a certain number of hours. Well, no, not on a simple repair that requires an hour or less. Highway robbery.
Long review / story to following - but basically they sent three techs to my house... one of them caused a dangerous ignition issue with my boiler, the second one tried to screw me over to the tune of $2000 (or grossly misdiagnosed the issue the other tech had created), and the third one seemed to be pretty competent and trustworthy. Maybe if you can get Branden it's worth going with these guys, but otherwise - no way. Don't trust the Google Reviews, clearly they have found a way to game that system. I originally called Golden West in August due to an inconsistent ignition issue on our gas furnace / hot water heater. They reported that the full ignition system would need to be replaced ($1200) so we went ahead and did that. However, by the next day it would not light at all. Another technician came and discovered that the over flame sensor had been set off. He reset it and we saw that the combustion was indeed quite explosive. He said this was driven by the fins needing to be cleaned so it could vent properly and that this was going to be a $2000 repair. This didn't quite add up as the explosive ignition had never happened before the previous day's repair. So I sent him away and had another company come the next day. They uncovered that the issue with the ignition was the position of the pilot light installed by the first tech and adjusted it accordingly, charging me their minimum and also stating that the fins did not need to be cleaned. I reported this to Golden West and they refunded me what I had paid plus another $200, although I was certainly left questioning if the $1000 I had paid at this point had actually been required (especially after they told me that that tech wasn't really a boiler specialist). At least at that point our boiler was not explosively igniting but before long I noticed the original problem was back - the pilot light was not lighting consistently. Since we were back to the original issue, I had Golden West come back to fix their work, but insisted on a third technician because I didn't trust the other two. He made a slight adjustment to the pilot light gas pressure and now the issue seems to be fully resolved. This one actually agreed with the tech from the other company - there was no way that the fins were ever causing explosive ignition.
I too feel I was ripped off by this company. I had them out to look at my swamp cooler last year. It had always worked fine, no problems at all. But, I decided I should have someone come out and clean it and get it started for the summer. Out of the blue, they found all kinds of things wrong with it and before I knew it I had a $600 bill. They started out at nearly double that, but kept calling their boss and finally said they would offer me a deal (for only $600) if I did the work that day. I knew I was being scammed, but needed to get it up and running and it did need cleaning. I also had them put in a second pump which circulates the water more often and keeps it cleaner. After paying the $600, I had to call them back twice because it kept leaking. This year, I started it up myself and there was a valve on a tray I thought they had installed the prior year that was dripping. Water was also pouring out of the unit onto the roof because the float wasn't positioned properly in the tray. So, I called them out again hoping they would fix it at no charge because I had paid so much to them last year to clean it up and get it in good working order. The guy ended up telling me that I needed a new float (a part he wanted to charge $186 for that I could get at home depot for $15), plus labor -- but he would give me a deal for $200. He said that float was causing the leak, not the gasket. I told him I wasn't going to spend that kind of money for a cheap little plastic float, and he got irritated and left. I bent the float myself to position it correctly, and the leak stopped. I'm going to have my neighbor replace the gasket in the try to stop the small leak, which will probably cost me $25. This is one of those companies that tries to get your business up front with super nice, clean cut, helpful staff to gain your trust, then they scam you into thinking you need to spend a lot more money than you really do. Their demeanor totally changes when you tell them you are not interested. Stay far away from this company!!!
Yeah, this company is not one I'd ever use again, by any means. I'm just surprised to see so many other people have had a similar experience. I called them when my hot water heater burst. The guy came out on a holiday, and, darn it, the only water heater he happened to have on the truck was a very high-end model, but he would give me a deal, $1,800 labor and all. I was already going to have to pay him a holiday surcharge, so I figured OK, then I'd have hot water in a few hours instead of a few days. He pulled the box off the hot water heater and it had a huge dent in the side of it, and he couldn't very well go to the warehouse and get a new one at that point, after he already said it was take-it-or-wait with that one. So, the next morning I got on the phone and quickly found GW was way overcharging me; I could get the same unit installed for $1,000. Even after paying GW's service call, I'd come out hundreds of dollars ahead, so I called GW to cancel and pay the service call charge, but they said, wait, they could do it for a thousand bucks. I assumed the same unit, since obviously that's what we're talking about. Sure , I was a little miffed off that they tried to charge me so much more the first time for no apparent reason, but I just wanted to be done with this. I should have trusted my instincts. The Golden West serviceman did not install the expensive Bradford unit. He installed one that looked like the first one but sells at Home Depot for less than half the price. Of course, nobody from GW ever mentioned that they weren't installing a Bradford. I couldn't read the chicken-scratch writing on the work order, or maybe I would have noticed, but I signed the order approving the work. I noticed the different name on the unit about a week later and felt like a complete idiot for trusting them a second time. Yes, partly my fault for not being attentive, but, definitely no, I'd never do business with Golden West again.
Stay away. These guys will gouge you. I first had Golden West out to tune up our heater, and that was okay except that they did a real hard-sell on an extra-sensitive carbon monoxide detector. Lots of scare tactics about how our normal CO monitors weren't good enough. They were also very shady in quoting the price to me, like not breaking out parts, labor and visit cost so it was hard to tell how crazy-expensive said CO monitor was. I didn't think much of it at the time, but my second interaction with them has me thinking that this is the company's M.O. Our swamp cooler wasn't running very well, so we called them out to take a look. He came back with a price quote of $794 to replace the float, drain and pads and to clean the pan. It pains me to admit that I signed off on those charges, as I later learned that the cost of the parts was around $80 bucks. He spent maybe 1.5 hours total on the job, so that's a heck of an hourly rate. THEN, he comes in all "Everything went great! Fantastic! Except the pump is now broken!" And tried to charge another $300 to fix that. Needless to say ... the part is $15-$30 at Home Depot. After my husband called them up and called them crooks, they did agree to replace the pump at no extra charge. There were other shady things, too. Like when I was asking questions about the initial $794 charge, because it seemed steep, he told me a new swamp cooler would cost $4,000 to $5,000. I don't think there's a swamp cooler on the market that expensive, unless it's plated with pure gold. And he made a big deal about how he was going to replace a plastic piece with a brass piece and it would be so much better ... and then when we checked afterward, the new part was still plastic. Anyway, I'm mad at myself for getting scammed and would encourage everyone else to look elsewhere -- their technicians are very friendly and personable, which makes it harder to realize you're getting fleeced!
BUYER BEWARE!!! They pulled a bait and switch on me. I called in January with a backed up drain in my basement. I was told that they could have a technician there that day between 3-5 and it would be an $80 charge. I specifically asked if that included the drain cleanout and was told that it would. The plumber did not show up until 6:00 that night and then tried to charge me an after hours trip fee. I had to argue my way out of that. Then he started going over pricing for the service. The amount he told me was $400 for him to clean out and inspect the drain. I asked what happened to the $80 price I was quoted and he had no idea but would "follow up on it". Unfortunately, I needed to bathe my children so I had to pay up for him to do the cleanout. He said that he is not supposed to start work when a customer is unhappy from the beginning. I told him that I would be a lot more unhappy if he left and the problem wasn't fixed. He snaked the drain and said that it should be all set. I did receive a call from him a little over a week later (after I followed up TWICE with him) and they said that the operator did not quote an $80 price. I was told I had to talk to a manager to hear the recording...but I never got anywhere with that. Follow up - my drain is now clogged again and we were told that they would charge us again since it is out of 90 days from the original service. The whole ordeal has felt shady from the start and has not left a good taste in my mouth. To quote one price over the phone and then try to charge that plus 5x the quoted price is absurd. I would never recommend this company and think that people should know the tricks these guys are playing. As I stated before, BUYER BEWARE!!!
I returned late November from a trip overseas to discover that my old furnace was not working. Thank goodness for warm weather! I immediately called Golden West Plumbing and Heating, based upon the strength of their reviews. I had already decided that all of my mechanicals were very old and soon to fail, so decided before making that call to check affordability to replace everything. Jimmy R. showed up on my doorstep same day and I decided to move ahead replacing everything; furnace, air conditioner, electrical panel, and humidifier. The hot water heater was still in good shape. His boss Chris came the next day just make sure we had a good plan. They even provided portable heaters to make the house more comfortable. The next day, the first truck appears at my home. Then the next one and then the next one and they just kept coming, eight in all. This had been worked out ahead of their arrival, but it was impressive anyway. The work began and it was organized chaos to the untrained eye! The staff were all professional, respectful, and friendly. Two days later after that 7:30 a.m. start, with the last of the electrical crew leaving at 8:00 that following night, everything was finished, working and cleaned up. I couldn't even tell that anyone had been there, except that I had new equipment. It took a team of 12 people to pull this project together; 10 on site and two back at the shop coordinating delivery's and handling the front desk. This job was not cheap, but pricing was very competitive. Coupled with the awesome service and quality of product, I know I got a great deal! Thank you, Chris, Jimmy R, Luis C, Manny A, Uriel J-T, Jose G, Evaristo, Anthony, Hector, Michael, Gage, & the incomparable Diana
