Doug, Kyle, Barb (just to name a few) as well as the whole team treat you like family and a priority always. Top notch service and very professional, highly recommend if you're in the northshore area for plumbing/heating needs!
We have used them many times and they are honest and reasonable!! We had ABC plumbing come out yesterday and give us a ridiculous price to fix our water heater - between 2.5K and 8K. FLADER Came today, fixed it, and let us know that the part that was broken was under warranty. I would use them 100 times over before I ever call anyone else!! Highly recommend!!!
Jacob W did our Membership plumbing inspection and was very knowledgeable. He gave us tips and recommendations to keep to keep our pipes in the best condition possible in our new home. We truly appreciate the expertise that TR Miller brings to these services and Jacob is no exception
"We had a terrible experience with this company as tenants. Our disposal unit broke and flooded the kitchen on a Sunday. We contacted them on our landlord's recommendation, paying extra for emergency service. However, their technician couldn't fix it until the next morning. They replaced the unit but took away the old one without our request. When our landlord refused to pay, we asked for a letter stating that the replacement was necessary per their technician's assessment. We also requested the return of the old disposal to leave for our landlord at the end of our lease. They refused both reasonable requests. I advise staying away from this company at all costs.
I had them come to fix my pluming. They charged me $215 to tell me it costs $1000 to fix. I had another pluming company do the same job for $200 Never will recommend them. Terrible service
Be aware of their charges, ask for a quote first or you will be hammered with unexpected charges if you live far, I usually call a local plumber so I found them listed on the web site on the town next door, according to google map 7.4 miles, about 15 minutes from my house. Well they are actually based in Evanston which is quite a distance; an easy 50 minutes drive. I got charged 1,580$ for only installation to 75 gallon water heater that was defective and under warrantee, and was installed previously by my plumber which was not available at the time for 600$. So the water heater was provided for free by the manufacturer, I drained the old water heater to save time, the two plumbers were in my house for about an hour and 30 minutes. I got charged for 5 hours for each plumber at 79$ per half an hour per plumber, 790$ each plumber. Total of 10 hours The installation plus travel time to and from Evanston for two people but one truck!! Why was I'm calling a local plumber for then? My advice to everyone is to GET A WRITTEN PROPOSAL IN ADVANCE, it's the right thing to do. I broke my own principal of not requesting a proposal and now accept the outcome. THE WORK WAS DONE PROPERLY AND EFFICIENTLY. I called the office to question these unexpected charges, after a few minutes of arguments, the office took around 130$ off, I didn't want to proceed any further as I had many calls waiting for me to answer. Solution: I would urge the owner to reconsider future travel time charges if he wants to continue grow and reach out to outer suburbs and be competitive with local plumbers, as I don't think it is fair to have the same charges for the actual hard lifting, working, and sweating time by the plumbers, to sitting driving, sipping coffee and listening to music while reaching destination time. I'm not oppose to travel time charges as I have 6 delivery trucks of my own and new one on the way, I charge per 5 miles increment radius flat fee based on many considerations, but this system is unreasonable, or needs revision. Thank you and Good luck
Was given a range of 10a-2p the next day, was a bit annoyed they arrived at 1:45p, but was withing the range promised. Met Kevin, very knowledgeable, experienced, awesome, and helpful with my caulking questions. Kevin found the source of the problem right away why the bathtub facet leaked through the wall while the facet was on. Once Kevin left I immediately discovered the bathtub facet he was working on dripping. Kevin came back the next morning and said the drip was related to the valve source, an area he was not working on. To me, not knowing plumbing, I still thought this was a load. A plumber arrives without a dripping facet, and leaves with a drippy facet. The manager offered me a 'free' service call, but had to pay for time and parts. I couldn't help thinking a plumber leaving with a leaky facet doesn't look good for them. I insisted Kevin should come back and fix it for no charge as a means of negotiating. The manager claimed no responsibility of the leak suggesting maybe it had been leaking down the wall before the repair. I gave in on that point, but it was purely speculation. The manager did not budge on his original offer of only waving the $85 service charge. Here is what I expect from someone who wants my business. 1) Accept some responsibility instead of taking such a hard line. I am clueless when it comes to plumbing, and was on the defense for possibly being taken for a ride. 2) Offer to diagnose what the problem is for free. It took Kevin maybe 5 minutes to figure out what the original problem was. If it took 10 minutes this time to diagnose this problem, I think time well spent to keep a customer. 3) I would have paid for labor and parts if the diagnosis sounded reasonable. What annoyed me the most about Flader was the inflexibility of the manager. Kevin the plumber was very professional. I live in a condo with over 100 units whom I will never recommend Flader. I mentioned this to the manager, and that I was going to post a review here. The manager said he would post a rebuttal. I say, bring it on.
We used Flader Plumbing for plumbing work since they came from a direct referral from another plumber that was not able to fix our plumbing problem (for house in IL). Although the work was completed, we feel that it not only took a long time to complete the work from start-to-finish, but also that we were charged too high of a price in comparison to what our neighbor's have paid for similar plumbing work (at least quadruple). We were also told that the problem was for one reason and it ended up that that was not the reason at all. We ended up paying approximately $30,000 for plumbing work, when the problem could have been solved for much, much less money. My neighbor a couple of doors down only paid $4K for similar work. I would not recommend or use Flader Plumbing again. I had just had a baby at the time. I had only been home a few days from the hospital. This situation, due to the high cost, put such a strain on us financially that we were forced to move and leave the state. Update 2014: This is to confirm that yes, we used Flader for this job. Yes, it was for a house we lived in at the time in Illinois. Yes, our total came to upwards of 30K for everything. I have receipts to prove it. I am writing this update, because Flader has been telling people that they did not do this job or were not responsible. I have received several messages from people that were not nice or downright rude because I wrote this review. I will not be intimidated! I am sure others have may had fine work completed by Flader, but I personally did not have this experience. Others may have had a much different experience than we did.
Water heater exploded Thanksgiving morning and flooded the basement. Call Flader and chatted with Doug (owner) via their emergency service. He was so helpful with his professional advice. Initially made the decision to just replace tank water heater with another and he immediately scheduled for the next day (Friday). Changed my mind to a tankless system, called back, chatted with Doug regarding the pros/cons of the tankless system. Again, his advice was great. He came to the house first thing Saturday morning (7:30) to provide an estimate for the tankless system and installation. Immediately accepted and scheduled the install for Tuesday (30th) morning. Technicians (Kyle and Ritchie) arrived at 8:00am and got to work immediately after answering a couple of my questions. Both of them were extremely friendly and professional. They worked effectively and had the entire project (removal of old and installation of new) in 5 hours....fantastic! And the clean up was fantastic!!! Had a question the day after so called Kyle and he provided the answer I was looking for. Being a business owner I know how important communication, customer service, and quality of work is on every project. Flader exceeded my expectations and will continue to always work with and refer Flader/Doug to my friends, family, and clients. If you want to work with a no hassle, friendly, and professional plumbing and A/C company work with Flader and you won't be disappointed. Thank you Doug, Kyle, and Ritchie for a great experience!
They are juicing hours and fuel charges. Hired them for a rental property of mine to clean the burners on a on demand water heater. I wasn't there but my tenant was. Got a bill for $330.00 which was strange because last time i used them two years ago and i was present the bill was $240.00 and they installed brand new parts. This time all they did was clean it. Bill should bill not as much right? So the $330.00 charge threw me off because i was not there and got out the invoice from last time and it was more work for less maybe i am wrong about this so i called my tenant and ask them how long was the service call and they said ohh no time at all he was gone in 25 mins....but charged me two hours for a service call! Called them to gripe a bit and got the run around big time i guess david the "owner" did the work and he would call me back. Four days later and no call bye bye for your service calls forever! Watch there billing and call them out on it if your dumb enough to use them overpriced and charge you for everything even gas to get to your house.
We were having a problem with one of our Sump Pumps in a house that we recently moved into. After getting a diagnosis and quote from our usual plumber, we decided to get a second quote from Flader, as they had done the original installation for the previous owners over 10 years ago. The original diagnoses from out usual plumber was wrong, as pointed out by Kevin at Flader. He was able to diagnose the problem, test it to show me what the problem was and had all of the necessary parts on hand to fix it. I can't speak to whether or not the price was in line with what another company would have quoted me, but I can say that the problem is now resolved. Kevin was patient with me as a new homeowner and explained everything. Additionally, he checked in with me a few hours later to ensure our sump pump backup battery (the issue in question) was charged and working as it should. When it comes to plumbing, in my opinion, I am happy to pay a premium for technicians who take the time to get it right the first time. I will return to Flader in the future.
Got taken advantage of by these guys, again. Last time, was replacing a kitchen faucet and had the foresight to check their prices first. I was able to get the exact model we wanted online for far less than the Fladers said they could get it for. Hmmm. Ok, they came and installed it when it arrived, but the rubber drain ring for the disposer I had asked for was "not on the truck". I paid for everything and a few days later he came back to snap that ring in, literally 30 seconds of work, and we got a new bill for $75. Not my fault he didn't bring it first time. This time, we had a leaky bathroom faucet. He "didn't have the part on the truck". He came back later with the part, while I was out. My wife said he charged $450, including $160 for a part I can buy at Home Depot for $24. The whole faucet is listed for $150 at Home Depot. Find a less greedy plumber, I know I will.
I read the other two Yelpers comments about Flader Plumbing and can only conclude that the people involved had much bigger plumbing problems than they acknowledged or don't have any idea how much good plumbing costs. Flader is outstanding. Their people are top notch. Yes, they are a union shop (and therefore charge more than some non-union plumbers), but they really know what they're doing. We lived in Evanston for 16 years and they did work for us numerous times over the years. When we bought a new home a few miles away (that needed extensive renovation), we insisted that Flader do all the plumbing work. They were terrific. We have heard numerous horror stories about other area plumbers -- as well as how Flader is brought in after other shlock jobs are done. If you want it done right, call Flader.
I called Flader because they were on the approved list of contractors for my hot water heater, which was under warranty for parts but not labor, BIG mistake. I was told I'd be the first call at 7:30 this morning, at 8:00 I called and was told "he's running late, he'll be there soon." No apology. When he showed up, he couldn't identify the source of the problem, and attempted to BS me with possible causes. Putzed around for 1 1/2 hrs, said that was all he could do, and went to his truck to generate my bill. $89 service call, a little high since I'm 1.5 blocks from their shop, but ok. $270 labor for 1.5 hrs of "work"...holy crap! That's $180/hr! If I want to pay that rate for getting BS, I'll go sit in a lawyer's office. In all, $366 for being late, not knowing the problem and BSing me. Never again.
we had an EXCEPTIONAL experience this morning when my wife discovered a leak under her sink in the Master Bathroom. I came home from the gym and immediately called Flader Plumbing. Barbara, very helpful, said they had a early morning cancellation and she'd have someone over quickly...25 minutes later Nate (The Great) arrived. immediately found and fixed the problem. We had a toilet to be secured to the floor, a shower faucet that needed a new cylinder... Nate willingly did tho repairs quickly and so efficiently. we were beyond pleased with Flanders service. I called the office to tell Barbara how happy we were with Flader Plumbing and Nate. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them for all your plumbing needs.
