Very satisfied with Chet's. They were prompt and did a very thorough job assessing why our carbon monoxide detector had gone off. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
My carbon monoxide alarm went off in the middle of the night, and Chet's was able to come right away the next day to troubleshoot. The source of the CO was not obvious, so they went above and beyond in checking all of the vents and configuration of all my ductwork to see if it could be pulling drafts in a way to make finding the source more difficult. I am grateful for their diligence, and would happy recommend them to someone in the same situation!
I was entirely satisfied with the service I received from Chet's. The appointment was arranged the morning I called, and they arrived before noon. My repair was completed within the hour. Riley did an excellent job, communicated the problem and the repair, and removed the damaged parts. I have used Chets to replace my entire AC unit last year, and have no complaints whatsoever. I will definitely use them again.
Website said they close at 5pm. Showed up at 3:57pm and as soon as the lady saw us come in she rolled her eyes as the sign on the door said open until 4pm. Simply asked for a part and she was not helpful, shrugged her shoulders and didn’t even attempt to be bothered. Customer Service non existent! Sad really. Will not be using Chets and will discourage others too. Good riddance-
Let me begin by saying that Chet's has always been my go-to guy for any plumbing or heating needs. Not anymore. They charge $10 an hour more than anyone else and milk their jobs for every dime they can get. I had a leaky faucet in my shower. It should take about an hour to repair. Which is what it took the first time. However, the faucet was assembled improperly so it had to be disassembled and reassembled on my dime. Which of course cost me another $120 for an extra hour's work. I then informed that the faucet still leaked from the back and had to be replaced. It cost me an extra $200 because the plumber didn't do things right the first time. Caveat emptor.
I was a repeat customer. I would not recommend Chet's plumbing to anyone. Overall my gripe is from a second interaction. I needed a new dishwasher installed. My cupboards never had one installed before. I called Chet's and told them I had a new dishwasher installation. There wasn't one before. Chet's customer service affirmed me on the phone they could do it. When the plumber came in he measured the cabinets, not the space with the face plate that screws off, and said the dishwasher wouldn't fit. He then went on for 20-30 minutes about how I needed a carpenter and gave me a name, and a price of over 500 dollars to replace my counter-tops to make the cupboards and dishwasher fit in the requested area, nothing about plumbing. I suggested a few other spots if he wasn't comfortable installing the dishwasher next to the sink and he flat out said "I'm not going to do that." I told him that if he wasn't going to do any work or install the dishwasher he should leave. He said I would have to pay for the hour of work. An hour of work which he didn't do any plumbing, also known as his job. The only thing he did was look under my sink and go "Looks like it's all there." I paid for his time and he left. I called later on in the day and asked for management. The manager that called back didn't provide any real customer support in fact I only got yelled at, insulted, interrupted every time I tried to explain anything, and belittled. When on the phone with the manager (a guy noted in other reviews as having very poor customer service) he kept asking me "What do you want, do you want me to send a guy and just jam the dishwasher in place, do you want me to ruin your cabinets? Is that what you want?" He was saying very aggressively and interrupting me over whatever I was saying, not a tone or attitude where you would invite a person over to your house with. I had to take a lot of deep breaths from all the berating he was doing to keep calm. The manager kept talking over me, he got to a point and asked "What is it you wanted him to do?" Well for starters you're the experts, you're the plumbers, if I knew what he was supposed to do why would I hire you? He kept repeating this until I said "You're the expert's, you tell me!" I followed that up with "I know you have professional's and in fact I was very happy with the first person that did some plumbing, however this guy came over and didn't do any work and I still paid for his time." After what felt like an eternity on the phone with this manager finally asks me a question related to the reason I called, plumbing, "Well I guess we never covered this what was the size of the drain pipe?" He goes on to explain all the work the plumber could have done. So why didn't the plumber do all this work you're explaining to me over the phone? Needless to say I didn't invite them to do any more work. Let me ask you this, if you are a customer service company and you use bullying tactics you should not be a representative of a company or said company should not be in business. In the end I never called a carpenter or another plumber. I installed it myself. I moved the open cupboard that was on the left of the space out. The corner was just a wooden face plate. Nothing got damaged and the dishwasher fit. In fact I have extra space that I am putting a nice looking wine-rack into my cabinets. I went to the local hardware store and got the pieces and tools tools for the job cheaper than I paid for the hour of "no-work" from them.
We used Chet's twice: Once to get a brand new water heater and once to check out a leak. I have read mixed reviews about this company. Unfortunately, some of the negative reviews are true. The first time they came by, we had better luck with the service when communicating with the main guy who helped to schedule the appointment. He made sure to call me and collaborated with me to find the best time to come out. He was pleasant. However, that changed when the two repair men (different men) finally came out, I was not home but had someone there to receive them. I was told they were rude and condescending and stood around chatting with each other for awhile after the work was done. This would have added to our bill because they charge by the hour. The second time they came out to service us, there was poor communication among the staff and they went to the wrong address. Dan wasn't very professional and was short and curt with me when I tried to tell him he was at the wrong address. I think his response could have been more professional as there was no need for him to be that way. Just because there was poor communication amongst the staff doesn't mean he should be agitated with the time he spent driving around. When Dan arrived at the correct address, I was told he was short and curt, again, with the person who received him. Unnecessary. I do have to say the receptionists who took my calls were both pleasant even though some reviews said they were rude and condescending. So in conclusion, based on numerous reviews, this company needs more training in customer service!
I called for a quote to clean out my sewer line which had backed up a little in my basement. Receptionist told me $95/hr and should be able to get it done in an hour. While 2 service guys arrived to repair the problem, they had to remove the basement stool to clean the line. I asked the service guy how much to install new valve on toilet while they were here. Guy said about $50 and I OK'd it. They were here a total of 1 hour and 5 minutes. There is a travel charge of $10 to allow for travel time to and from my home according to their service manager. Their shop is 1.8 miles away. I was charged for 2 hours with a total charge of $490.00. After calling about the bill their service manager offered me a $50 reduction. I said I felt $100 would be more fair. He said he would talk to everyone involved and get back to me. After admitting I was mislead by his receptionist, he said all their policies were followed and now was offering me a $25 credit towards future services. I told him they would be the LAST people I would use and hung up. Apparently misleading their customers is also one of their policies. On a side note, their service man Dave was probably the most rude and arrogant service person I've ever had in my home. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
UPDATE: Moving to 3 stars, was contacted by Chet's and have been informed that there must have been a misunderstanding between the off hours tech and myself because their off hours rate is $160.00 per hour and they need two techs due to safety protocol. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Giving Chet's 2 stars only because I truly have not had any work done by Chet's. This last Friday night, prior to having a family party at my house, I found myself in the terrible situation of having a drain backup in the unfinished portion of my basement. Looking to utilize a local company rather than a larger chain like Roto Rooter, I decided to give Chet's a call (with the full understanding of it being off hours). With that being said, I was eventually able to connect with Chet's off hours tech and was told that for them to stop out during OT hours, it would be at a rate of $320/person and they would be bringing two techs - for a total of $640. It was an immediate turnoff as Roto Rooter had already quoted me half that price. Unfortunately, I won't be giving Chet's another call due to this experience and will have to look elsewhere for plumbing services within Stevens Point.
Chet's was timely in servicing my needs. They completed the job and fixed my plumbing repair. A few days later I received my bill. It was incredibly high and I was charged a fee for everything they could think of! I had to pay for an additional person to come and deliver the parts they needed! I live within walking distance and was charged $30 for delivery. I had questions about the water tank they installed. I made multiple attempts to contact them. I even enclosed a very kind well written letter with full payment asking that they contact me and explained I felt taken advantage of and ripped off. Two and a half weeks passed. They cashed my check but didn't contact me. I called again and showed a sense of urgency. I spoke with the service manager who stated he thought this issue was resolved. He did nothing to make up for the poor customer service. We ended the conversation by me saying, "well I'm not satisfied I guess that will have to be ok" he said ok and hung up. Rip off rates, fees for everything and horrible customer service to boot! I'll never use these rude penny pinchers again.
Chet's is a horrible company to deal with. They are a complete rip off!!!! they were supposed to clean out my drain pipe in my basement. They spent a total of 30 mins cleaning it out and charged me $414.00. Dumped the wasted in my yard for me to clean up. Then the drain backed up 1 week later. They came back out without scheduling an appointment. my renters were not available. Charged me for their unscheduled visit even though I had given them the contact numbers to schedule an appointment. Came back out again that day. Charge me $313 saying it was an excessive amount of tampons in drain despite being there one week before. I have had other problems with them in the past not being able to open a wall or saying I had to replace ALL my pipes when it was one single pipe right where the leak was coming from. Don't use this company unless you want unprofessional technicians and to be charged an extreme amount of money for a small job. I should have went with Roto Rooter which stands by their work, if they have to come back within a reasonable time period, they will not charge.
Our mini-splits weren't blowing cold. Chet's came out, spent over an hour diagnosing and ordered the parts which were on backorder. We suffered through four weeks of hot summer and the part finally came in. Chet's came out, put the new part in, still no cold air. So then I had to order additional back-ordered parts myself and have Chet's come out a third time before we had a working AC. No AC this summer was not fun. I understand Chet's is not responsible for the delay of the parts, they are, however, responsible for ordering the incorrect parts and having to continually come out. They then charged an exorbanent amount for their services. The reason they had to continually come out was because of their misdiagnosis. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the rudest person I've ever encountered in my life is somehow the President of this company, Shari. She does the opposite of what's expected as far as Customer Service. On a different occasion, one of her employees didn't write down our complete credit card information and she called yelling at me (for their error). Truly rude.
BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS BUSINESS!! I called to have a hot water heater installed (installation only).I was told that "a plumber' (singular) could be sent next day (I appreciated late request accommadation) at a rate of $80 per hour. I felt that sounded reasonable. I agreed. Chet's plumbing sent TWO plumbers and charged FULL RATE for BOTH. A very easy install took 1.5 hours ( seemed long for TWO, but ok). They also removed old heater (grateful). When argued/questioned about the $387 bill for an easy install ( old one unhooked and drained, new one out of box and setting right next to it) I was told OSHA required the second person. A GOOGLE search turned up NOTHING of what I believe this as a bogus claim). Chet's agreed to lower bill to $300. MAKE SURE YOU GET AN ITEMIZED ESTIMATE OF EVERY SINGLE CHARGE THEY WILL BILL YOU FOR BEFORE AGREEING. I BELIEVE THEY ARE SLEEZY AND NOT TO BE TRUSTED. PLEASE NOTE: The quality of the work is not in question. The work was professionally done. My frustration is with office performance/practices of this business.
We woke up in the middle of the night to find our home was at a chilly 56° inside! I messed with the heater switching it on and off to determine what was going on with it. I guess it just stopped functioning in the night. We called Chet's before 8 am, was happy to see they were already up and open. Spoke with Justin who was very helpful. Asked the questions necessary to get us the help we needed for our possible circumstances. Luckily they had someone out to us impressively quick! Mike was our serviceman. He diagnosed the issue very fast and confidently. A part of our motor broke so he went to their office, got the part and came back and made the repairs. This was all done within an hour. Unfortunately the part wasn't cheap but, we needed this fixed STAT with how cold it is right now. Very thankful for the great customer service we received from Chet's. Things ran so smooth from beginning to end.
Once again two of Chet's finest came out to tackle a smelly task in my basement. Not only did they arrive when expected but they also worked diligently to complete the task in a timely manner. And they did their very best to leave a clean space behind. On top of that, it was obvious that one of the two was an apprentice. I was so impressed with how the more experienced plumber worked with the apprentice to be sure that the apprentice was given an opportunity to solve the problem and make decisions about how the work would be done. They collaborated on the easy work and the challenges the task presented. This gentle, kind and yet professional approach will lead to a successful plumbing career for the young apprentice. And when the bill came I was pleasantly surprised that it was hundreds less than I anticipated.
