We had Berkey’s install a water softener and reverse osmosis system, and the experience was outstanding. Shout out to Jacob and Daniyl! They were knowledgeable, professional, and did an amazing job from start to finish. They took the time to explain everything and were very detailed in their work. The difference in our water is incredible. My hair and skin already feel so much better! We’re so thankful for their expertise and highly recommend them. We are officially lifelong customers!!
Jonathan was the service technician sent by Berkeys Plumbing and he was very professional . He did a great job locating the leak issue with my out back water faucet and completed the total rebuild and repair with in an hour. I will deffinantly call them back for other much needed jobs around my home. Great price as well.
I finally found a home services company that I can trust to do quality work at a fair price. Thank you Berkeys Team. Fantastic young knowledgeable team that worked through freezing temps to replace our hot water heater today. Great explanation of my new system so that I can maintain it myself. I plan to use them exclusively for our plumbing, HVAC and electrical needs.
Berkeys was pretty quick to respond to my water heater issue earlier this year. They were great and on top of things. They replaced my water heater with a tankless one, and shortly after that they replaced my AC system. The AC system did not pass inspection since the installer tried to take a dangerous short cut. We were not happy to hear that news from the city inspector as getting the right part was not difficult. Instead, doing it wrong and moving on to the next job was the obvious solution. Berkeys recommended (pushed) a dry- out company to get moisture out of the house from the water heater. DRY FORCE was sent to my home at Berkeys insistence. Do not use DRY FORCE. They are a nightmare if home owners insurance is involved. Berkeys has some sort of a deal with Dry Force. Read the Dry Force reviews that have to do with house floods and insurance and then find someone else. Anyways, Berkeys will insist on signing you up for their $20 a month system maintenance program. Sounds like a great deal until you find out how difficult it is to get an appointment. Like a few months out. We need our filter changed out for the AC system they installed. We have the filter. They want $59 to install it. And we can’t cancel the $20 a month program until we have had it a year. $240 total payments while it’s a pain in the butt to get an appointment. Should have stayed with Veterans AC. Will go back as soon as the year is passed in April 2026. Only giving two stars since they showed up quickly when my house flooded.
I have no personal experience with this company for their services; however I can tell you that I have been trying to remedy a child support issue since September 2012 with no luck. In September 2012 A Better Deal Plumbing presented an Insufficient Funds Check to the Texas Attorney Generals office. They have since been told on multiple occasions by the OAG that they MUST remit payment via certified funds. Kenlyn, the office manager and owners wife, complied once, sending a lump sum payment for 8 of the weeks owed to the OAG on 11/30/2012. This was the last date that they could remit certified funds prior to the OAG taking further action. Since that point the funds continue to be sent in via check rather than certified funds as the OAG has instructed. Due to the NSF check presented in September all checks will continue to be returned to A Better Deal Plumbing. End result I am stuck between an OAG policy and an employer who complies only long enough to not be penalized further by the OAG. If their back office is anything like their service buyer beware!
This is an actual customers experience -First off I called another company (Airco) to have someone come out due to water all beneath by A/C and the Airco Air Conditioner man came out and said you need to call a plumber, then he said my charge is 119.00 service fee for nothing. I found A Better Deal Plumbing whom gave me the quote for 90.00 over the phone. I let them know I had Airco come out and they recommended the problem required a plumber, please note water was abundant. Andrew came out at 2 am that same evening or the next morning and he worked to clear the air conditioner lines. He was not able to clear the lines, he said someone would have to come out in the next morning. I originally called A Better Deal for a plumber so I was confused when Andrew kept saying he was an A/C man, because I called a plumber. Paul comes out the next morning, he takes the top off a pipe in the foundation and states it is all mud (confusion for me) I asked what that meant and he goes on to say to resolve my issue the foundation must be cut out and the old iron P trap must be removed and replaced with PVC. He says they have to break through my foundation to find out where he can finally find the main sewer line. He tells me my hallway wood floor must be cut through in a large area so they can get to the P TRAP, so now I will need to redo my wood floors on top of the 3600.00 price tag he quoted to replace my old pipes. I asked if that was the best he could do to resolve my issue and he confirmed this was the only solution and it was a big job and he had to pay the workers that would essentially come in and destroy my floor to fix the PTRAP. I will now need to add more cost $$$$ to fix my hard wood floors. I told him I would let them know if I wanted to have them complete the work. He then said my bill is $150.00. I told him that was not what I was quoted when I called and they had not fixed anything, he said "lady we have been out here twice. Remember all you consumers I am now at a point I have spent a total of $269.00 and still have no solution, Here are my thoughts; why did I get a air conditioner guy when I called for a plumber in the first place? Now I am paying more than A Better Deal Plumbing quoted when I contacted them in the beginning. Now it is on them they sent wrong service man. I paid the fee, my house was water logged and hot, so I did not think this through at the time. I will alert BBB as to my experience, just like I am telling you so when we consumers are trying to find a honest company and just want to be dealt with fairly, there will be honest reviews from actual customers posted for us to make an informed decision and find a good company. The next day Andrew the AC guy calls me back and says they can offer me other less expensive options (pump and copper pipes in the ceiling) that will solve all my problems for $600.00 and when I told him about another companies offered solution options for the same pricing, he says he would need to come out to see if it was an something they could do, as he never thought of that option. I said I am already out 150.00 with A Better Deal Plumbing and he didn't seem to believe me when I told him Paul had charged me that much; Andrew told me he would call me back. He calls me back after he verifies the outrageous service fee (remember it is well over what was quoted when I called them to ask their fee for coming out). Joe Public - please don't be as ridiculous as I was and pay a higher price than what was quoted - that is on me. I will never allow that to happen again. Remember when you have water everywhere and no air you don't always think in the moment. Now Andrew says we will do it for a total cost of 450.00 and that is the total after they give me back the 150 I already paid. Boy I hate to lose 150, but it seems like I may need to cut my loss at this point and use another business. This all sounds so shady, A Better Deal Plumbing would have torn up my foundation and my wood floors no regard to all the cost of repairing my home overall. Andrew said ' well I just never looked to see that was a bathroom directly behind that wall." I THOUGHT these service folks were experts in their field. This experience has caused me to choose the other Plumbing company that offered me options. The other company looked at what was behind the wall before doing demolition on my home. I will rate the other Plumbing company once the work is completed tomorrow. Hopefully they will get five stars for their ability to offer alternative non invasive options. I have to tell you to think twice, even three times before selecting this company. A note on Andrew, he seemed nice, what he essentially had a part in my situation was not nice in the overall outcome. When the water line breaks be prepared and research for the right business to do business with. Start looking now so you will know who is your best first call with a positive outcome. This was a lesson learned.
In the interest of fairness I think a review of where service did not go so well is in order. I used A Better Deal in 2011 and stopped using them in 2013. My air conditioning system was not cooling properly. Mike who supposedly had experience on a Lennox system performed all the routine service up to when the compressor on the condensing unit was changed. Mike came in April 2011 and added Freon. He returned in June 2011 and added more Freon. He came out again in July 2011 and added Freon once again. He returned in August 2011 and changed a TXV component. In September of 2011 the unit stopped cooling and the compressor had to be changed to the tune of $2150. The reason for the unit failure was A Better Deal's( ABD) failure to diagnose a Freon leak. Freon has a lubricating property. If your compressor loses all Freon the motor will overheat and seize up and require replacement. A Better Deal was pushing for a condensing unit replacement for $2750 and suggested I replace the entire system for $9375. I opted to replace the compressor for $2150. But that is not the end of the story, Dustin from A Better Deal (ABD) replaced the compressor at my cost. Honestly the install was sloppy. The Freon return supply and return lines were not joined at right angles. The existing joints on components were cut and though shorter, were forced into new fittings making the joints at odd angles. The right thing to do would have been to heat the joints and remove the fittings. Both the supply and return lines were sloppily wrapped with the old foam insulation that had holes and was worn. But it gets better. About a week later the new compressor burned up and failed to function. ABD claimed it was a faulty part. I think it probably had something to do with the installation. To their credit ABD replaced the compressor they had just installed. I was more demanding this time and asked that they install the supply and return lines in a workman like manner. Maybe like that which is required when submitting work to someone grading an applicant for a HVAC license. Oh, there is more. When I looked at the wiring on the compressor I notices the wire was not the same gauge as the original compressor. I checked an electrical code manual and found the wire was under sized for the size of the motor. I asked them to come out and replace the wiring. But that is not the end of the story. Later in 2013 we were having a problem with the outdoor condensing unit again and the fan that cools the coils was not working properly. The fan has a port to oil the bearing on the fan motor, not uncommon on older units. During regular service calls the motor was never oiled. So guess what happened, the fan motor burned up. ABD said newer models have bearings that do not need to be oiled because they are sealed or made of nylon. I don't doubt that is true but I felt like that they should be competent enough to oil the fan motor. Then in August of 2013 the outdoor unit was not cooling again while I was away from home. Rich the technician claimed it was a bad TXV valve. The repair was somewhat costly. He was recommending to my wife that we replace the entire condensing unit because it was old. Finally I had the sense to raise the BS flag and call another company who was recommended by a friend. It turned out the problem was start capacitors. Much cheaper than their TXV repair quote and the condensing unit did not need to be replaced. I am really glad I changed companies. The new company is very thorough when they do routine service. When they service the furnace they remove the burner unit and clean the components. When thy service the outdoor unit they take a hose and clean the coils. ABD never did either of these things. The new company actually spends more time at my house when they come. I pay more but I have not had repeat problems like I did under ABD's watch. Funny thing ABD actually had the nerve to call me and asked me if I wanted them to come out for routine service. Just so you know they advertise low rates for service. This is a false value. You are better off paying more, it will save you a lot of money in the long run. They are a family owned company and are nice on the phone. I think the problem is hiring competent HVAC technicians. My recommendation is avoid using A Better Deal.
It seems like every summer I have some AC drama. Every. Summer. So of course this summer was no different. My AC was freezing and not keeping up so I called a company I've used before and they came out, replaced a capacitor, added a bunch of coolant and charged me an exorbitant amount of money. Less than two months later my AC started acting up again so I decided I would not use the same company because I've lost trust in them. One of my Facebook mom groups had recommended A Better Deal, along with some other honest local businesses. I made my decision and called for an appointment and they came out the same day! I was able to get the 7-9pm window which was fine with me. I'd read some previous reviews that said they failed to show up so I was a little nervous but a little after 8pm Andrew called and said he was on the way. In these Covid times, safety is of utmost importance. He arrived wearing gloves and a mask. Very much appreciated since I haven't been having anyone in my house other than the ones that live in it. He found a possible issue that I guess I've had since I bought the house 4 years ago. A simple little fix that has been over looked by every other company. More coolant had to be added and I was sure I had a leak somewhere but hoping not. The cost was 1/4 of what I had paid the other company to add coolant. A day later the AC was short cycling but still cooling. I called ABD again and told them what was happening and Andrew came out around almost 10pm and let me know he may have over filled the coolant due to some ice still being present when he filled it the first time so that's why it was short cycling. He fixed the issue, told me I should be good for the season and off he went. I've been good ever since and sure hope there isn't really a leak and that the minor fix was the real issue. I realized after reading other reviews that Andrew is the owner of the company and he works hard like a regular employee just getting it done. Very professional, extremely knowledgeable and now this company has earned my trust. From the nice lady who answers the phone to getting same day appointments because they are open 7 days a week, I'm grateful and impressed.
I hired Berkeys to replace emergency shutoff valves and install new faucets, shower valves, and a tub valve in my condo. I was told this would be completed in one day. Instead, the initial installation had multiple quality issues, required repeated return visits, and stretched out for well over a month. The workmanship problems were serious enough that management had to come out multiple times to correct mistakes from the original crew. Even after that, a tub valve they installed was leaking, which resulted in damage to neighboring units. I had to pay out of pocket to repair that damage and prevent it from getting worse. I made repeated attempts to address this directly and to discuss the amount owed in light of the defective work and repair costs. Instead, the account was sent to collections while the dispute was still unresolved. I also provided documentation of the damage and repairs through the proper channels. The most frustrating part has been the lack of accountability and communication. I have called multiple times over the past few weeks, and each time I am told a manager will call me back the same day. That has not happened. Management has consistently avoided returning calls or engaging on the issue. At this point, I am moving forward with formal complaints, including filings with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This has been one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a plumbing company.
I called A Better Deal Heating & Air because the previous AC tech from another company failed to come out to fix the issue that they created the previous day. When I called A Better Deal I spoke to Angie who was very polite and professional throughout the call. She indicated that Tom would arrive around 12-2 in the morning. I told her that it was fine since no one else was picking up or was booked. Not even 30 minutes later Angie called back and said that she was able to up the time from 6:30-8:30. I told her that this was great. I was just about to book a hotel room for the night. Angie showed empathy and understood completely about the situation. Tom called me and gave me the heads up that he was on his way said that it would take him about 30 minutes. Tom was precise and arrived in 30 minutes! He greeted me said that he will check to see what's wrong with my unit and he did. The capacitor was broken and Tom was able to replace it. Tom did a fantastic job. He even checked my filters and educated me on how and when to replace the filters. He stated that within four hours the house will be blowing cold air throughout and it did! I am very thankful and pleased with the services from A Better Deal Heating & Air. They have a new customer now! I highly recommend this company!
We switched to Berkey's for our semiannual heating & AC maintenance because we were unhappy with the quality of the service from our previous provider. Berkey's had good reviews and a very reasonable annual price so I figured we'd give them a try. Honestly, I was a little bit skeptical going into it because in my experience larger companies can tend to be more expensive and more sales-y — but they proved me wrong. They've been out twice now (spring & fall) and I have been very impressed. The techs' level of knowledge has been excellent, they took their time to do a very thorough job, and they gave me a VERY detailed explanation of every single thing they saw and did, including photos. Best of all, they were really honest and did not try to upsell me on anything we didn't need. Kimball, in particular, was especially thorough and went above and beyond and I will be sure to request him for our future HVAC servicing. The company also provided us with comprehensive electrical and plumbing inspections at NO charge — and those providers were also very thorough, professional, friendly, and no-pressure. Scheduling was easy, the communication was great, and everyone showed up during the expected time window as promised. We are very satisfied with our experience so far!
We've been very lucky in the 11 years since we built our home. No major issues with AC units or plumbing. From time to time, we do have standard maintenance and minor repairs needed however. If you're in need of any AC, Plumbing or Electrical work done on your home, you cannot go wrong by selecting A Better Deal, serving the entire metroplex. Here are a few reasons why this is the only place we allow to work on our home. Greggory performed the recent work we would definitely have him back, very polite, knowledgable and efficient! * 24 hours a day, 365 days a week, 7 days a week services * $89.00 maintenance check on AC/Heater units * $25.00 service calls!! Seriously, this is the least priced service call in the area and if work is needed, they apply it back to the bill. Very good business model. * The techs are very kind and good appearance, company logo's on vehicles and they carry all parts in their vans. * The outstanding work they provide is AMAZING! Don't hesitate to call them, you will not be disappointed! I brought in Berkey's to update my outdoor lighting (up-lights along the house and fence), and every part of the job turned out to be a couple steps more involved than expected. Bryan Garcia and Preston (his apprentice) handled all of it without missing a beat. They kept me informed the entire day, explained what they were doing in plain language, and gave clear recommendations instead of just defaulting to the easy route. It's the little things that make the biggest difference: shoe covers every time they came inside, a heads-up before the power went off (I was working from home), and were so sweet to my senior dog. They worked the whole day through pouring rain and the humid sun that followed it, ensuring that the job was done right. And when I noticed one small thing amiss after they'd left, Bryan came back after hours to make it right. It honestly could not have been a better experience. Was the the cheapest quote - no. It was reasonable and for the work they did, it was the best deal in town. Richardson, Dallas, and Plano folks — these are the guys you want to trust with your electrical work. Ask for Bryan when you book your appointment.
Our upstairs A/C was blowing hot air, so I found an AC contractor through one of the popular online service-matching portals. The company was prompt to send a technician to assess the problem. After an hour of diagnosis, the technician informed me that the compressor for the unit has burned out and I need to replace it. The company said they can offer me a great deal to replace the whole condenser unit with a brand new one. I was not convinced by the assessment and wanted to get a second opinion. One of my friends (and neighbor) recommended "A Better Deal" and I called them up for help. Andrew visited at the scheduled time and found that the refrigerant was low and there was a blockage in the tube resulting in the air not getting cooled. He replaced the refrigerant dryer/filter and the problem was fixed. He charged me a reasonable fee for the refrigerant and the repair that was a fraction of the price quoted by the previous company. I am very satisfied by the excellent diagnosis and service provided by Andrew, as honesty is the key in doing business and building client relationship. Glad I found "A Better Deal".
About two weeks ago (the middle of August 2012) our A/C started making a noise. I turned it off, and called a A/C service to repair it. He was nice and was here about an hour. He repaired the A/C and left. The only thing about 10 days later it stop putting out cool air. Call them back about 8:00PM. They said they would send someone out between 8:00 & 11:00AM the next morning. After a sleepless night on the computer reading reviews I decided to try someone else. I found A Better Deal Heating & Air. They had good reviews so I call them. The man that answered the phone was understanding. When I asked when they could come out he said between 9:00 & 11:00AM. I called the other company and cancelled. The repaired man (Sammy) was here around 10:00 and finished about 30 minutes. It needed a part. The one thing that really impressed me about this repairman is that he explained step by step what he was doing and even show us the gauges, explaining them as he went. It made me feel better knowing what he did than just fixing it. Next time I need an A/C repaired... these guys will be the one's I call.
