Working with Avon Lake Plumbing has been nothing short of excellent. Dennis Gareau and his team are reliable, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Whether it's a quick fix or a full plumbing project, they show up on time and get the job done right the first time. It's clear they care about their craft and their customers. Highly recommend to anyone in Avon Lake or nearby looking for top-notch plumbing service!
Today was another save on behalf of Dan at Avon Lake Plumbing! Today's call was my leaky toilet. Another job well done. They have done it all for me...toilets...sink and bathtub drains...my newer garbage disposal and last but not least, replacing my hot water tank. Always prompt, professional and resonably priced. The real value add is they have been my plumber for 10 years and THEY ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Thanks to Dan and Avon Lake plumbing for always being there.
All of a sudden, our water heater stopped working. I called Avon Lake Plumbing and was immediately impressed by the friendly, efficient, and responsive service over the phone. The technician arrived within 30 minutes and resolved the issue within 5 minutes. He was very knowledgeable and provided a very reasonable solution/service. I’m truly appreciative of their exemplary business practice and highly recommend them!
I do not recommend Avon Lake Plumbing after the experience I have had with them. Avon Lake Plumbing won our business in December 2023 via a quote that was, at best, inadequately thought out. At worst, it was a bait and switch tactic. Specifically, they quoted us $5,000 all-in to fix a cracked pipe underneath our basement floor, repair a backwater (aka backflow) valve underneath our front porch, AND rough-in a basement bathroom. We eagerly scheduled this job as this was an extraordinarily competitive quote. What has transpired since then has been very unpleasant. When the owner (Dennis) arrived with a large crew to start cutting into our floors and started camera-ing our sewer lines, the price started jumping up. Suddenly it would cost $4,500 to fix the cracked pipe, $6,000 to rough-in the bathroom, and $6,000 to install a new backwater valve. We called that project off and regrouped. We decided to have Avon Lake Plumbing install a new backwater valve on our main sanitary sewer line in 2024. When we had questions during the process about whether our storm sewers were connected to the sanitary sewer, Dennis responded defensively but reassured us that he would camera the sewer lines ahead of time, that the sanitary sewers are separate from the storm sewer lines, and that "It will work exactly like it should and you won't flood". When we asked about maintaining it, he told us it doesn’t need to be maintained as long as the flap is opening. Another company camera-ed our sewer lines in late 2024 and noted the backwater valve was holding water. We contacted Dennis directly to lodge a warranty claim. After finding out that there was an issue with the valve due to incompetent installation, Dennis stopped taking our calls. We have reached out to Avon Lake Plumbing countless times. We have called Dennis directly, and we are sent straight to voicemail every time. Imagine our surprise on 7/29/2025 when water started coming into our (now finished) basement through the sanitary sewer lines during a heavy rain. This is the exact issue we paid Avon Lake Plumbing thousands of dollars to prevent, and which Dennis explicitly guaranteed would not happen. If trying to call Dennis directly is bad, calling the Avon Lake Plumbing “office” isn’t any better since all the messages they take for Dennis seem to get lost and we never get a call back. The one time the office didn’t lose our message and Dennis promised he would come look at his faulty work, he never showed up! When we finally got through to him, Dennis offered many explanations and after-the-fact disclaimers for why his plumbing work is subpar (none of which were mentioned before he accepted our thousands of dollars). The most alarming of his disclaimers was that a downspout might be tied into our sanitary sewer line. Such a suggestion on his part exposes his lack of adequate diligence, including a lack of proper dye testing and camera inspection prior to installation. His offering of this excuse amounts to an admission of negligence on his part for installing a backwater valve on a sanitary sewer line without doing an adequate inspection. Completely unacceptable business practices by Avon Lake Plumbing. There were other excuses offered...but the reality is that Avon Lake Plumbing installed a faulty backflow valve and happily accepted over $5,000 for below average work and are not willing to do anything to make it right. Stay away! Prior to posting this review, I shared these points with Avon Lake plumbing and asked them for satisfactory resolution. That has yet to occur. Speaking of reviews, please note that as of 8/1/2025, one of the five star reviews on this business is from the Avon Lake Plumbing office manager (it uses their actual name). Several of the other five star reviews also appear to be fake. The other negative reviews more closely align with my experience- the surliness, lack of professionalism, the "it's your fault" attitude. Please think twice before engaging with this organization.
Called them over a week ago and said someone would be out the next day. I assumed they would be over to fix our problem but they arrived over an hour late and then said they would come back the following day to fix it. They never showed up. No call or anything. They called the following day and said they would be there later that day. Again nobody showed up and we never received a call. very unprofessional. On top of it all when we got a different plumber he fixed the job in 5 minutes and said the repairs they said we needed were unnecessary.
I am honestly surprised at having to write this review. Avon Lake Plumbing came highly recommended and had great online reviews. We received an estimate for work needed in August. Due to our highly hectic and busy schedules (and after seeking out other quotes to complete our due diligence), we were finally able to schedule. We called about 2 weeks ago and secured an appointment on Friday, 11/19/21. We had lines to be replaced in our basement, as well as something to be fixed on our H20 tank, and a toilet and bathroom sink drain fix. On Thursday, 11/18/21 they called to say they couldn't come Friday due to an emergency. We understood and accepted an appointment for today, 11/23. I phoned yesterday, 11/22 to ensure we were still scheduled for today between 10-12. We rearranged our schedules as well as other scheduled work at our home for this. The woman in the office said "absolutely. You're still on schedule for tomorrow. We will call when on our way". Today at 9:30am (30 min before the beginning of our appointment window), she called to say they can no longer come and they will have to re-do the estimate since it has been longer than 60 days since the estimate. I asked her to phone my husband to explain to him. She did, and ended up placing Dennis on the phone. He actually told my husband that it wasn't on "his" schedule to be here because he was somewhere else, that we probably "can't afford the work needs to be done" and that we "wasted his concrete guy's time" (we saw him at a neighbor's house putting in a turnaround and asked if he could give a rough estimate on our house for the same). The quote given in August does not state anywhere that it expires after a certain time. Further, we are completely confused since we are basically begging to give them our business and they are doing everything they can to not take the business. Finally, when is it ok to insult someone? They canceled on us twice, then insulted us! If we were simply told we needed a new quote, we would have gladly said "no problem" and moved forward. Yet to cancel on us twice then insult us when asking to update our quote is unacceptable. I'm just in shock. We've never been treated like this! I hope this is an isolated incident because I would hate for others to be treated this way.
They came over to fix the shower and left it in a bigger mess than it was. There was no water pressure because the shower handles had to be twisted 3 times to even start the water. They were actually coming out of the walls. The guy never even checked if the shower worked, he definitely should have because we are still out of a shower. We called again for them to come fix the shower (again) and they gave some excuse on not having the right tools to fix it the first time so thats why he didn't. So he left to get the correct parts but never returned. I spent over 30 minutes waiting for someone who never even came back. They just told us that the are going to charge us more for something they messed up. So in conclusion they took our money and left us with a bigger mess!
I had a really great experience with Avon Lake Plumbing. Dennis and Dan were prompt at arriving for a quote on the job I needed. They were able to schedule me a couple days later to get my outdoor sump pump replaced, crock cleaned out, and raised all my downspout connections to prevent future build up in my stormwater drain lines and ultimately my sump pump well. They even jetted out all the stormwater drain lines to clean any obstructions. They both were very friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. I’m so glad I got to meet them and would highly recommend them for any plumbing needs. They will be the first I call for any future plumbing needs. Such great guys. Thank you for going above and beyond, and being honest and hard working. I appreciate you!
Because they said they would be here around 12 to 2 pm, never showed, then said they would be here between 2pm to 5pm, never showed again, wasted the whole day to find out they were never coming and said the job was to big and they didn't even see where the leak is, not dependable at all, then they said we would have to pay $3,800 if we wanted it done that evening, what a ripoff, sounds like they only cared about money and not doing the job, after reading the other 1 star reviews, it seems these people have scheduling issues, you can't count on these people and will be taking my business elsewhere, please don't waste your time with this company
The guys did come out quickly after calling, appreciated that. But the one plumber that assessed my plumbing issues was very short with me, used profanity, kept talking about how busy they are and how they can't work for nothing after quoting me a price well over twice what the plumber that I had do the job costs. I know people are busy, but that's supposed to be a good thing if you run a trade business. If you're already too busy to help me, your equipment is too expensive to have reasonable prices, and you're upset I don't know anything about plumbing, don't return my call.
We called them with an emergency plumbing issue at night as they claimed to have “24/7 services”. We were told a tech would contact us in less than a half hour. I had to call back 45 minutes later and was told “someone can be out tomorrow afternoon”. Not exactly emergency response. The next day they called and told me the earliest someone could come out was not that day but instead in a week. They also offered no explanation for the delay or why they didn’t have people available. I cancelled all service requests with them.
My family and I have lived in Avon Lake for over 28 years and have dealt with most of the local plumbing providers. Avon Lake Plumbing has been by far our most positive experience to date. Dennis and his team were top notch. From price to quality of service I can’t say enough. Also, during these trying times of COVID they were very respectful of all the necessary precautions in our home. As I always like to keep my business local, Avon Lake Plumbing will definitely be our go to and recommend them to be yours as well!
I would highly recommend Avon Lake Plumbing! We had a leaking water heater late in the evening and Dennis, per a phone conversation, walked us through the process of turning off the water at the tank as well as how to use our garden hose to drain the water out of the tank! He was friendly, professional, and patient with us! By ten the next morning, he was at our home with the replacement water heater. Dennis and his assistant were knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. We highly recommend their service!!
Called about a leaky faucets in our shower. Dennis came out and determined he needed to order parts. When the parts came in, he called and repaired them efficiently. While he was here he repaired two outside faucets for us. When he was going to be an hour late, he actually called to tell us! I have never had that happen before. In my experience, plumbers either don't call if they are going to be late, or don't show up at all. Thank you Dennis. I would definitely recommend Denny s and Avon Lake Plumbing.
Avon Lake plumbing is amazing! They came out to inspect and repair my French drains and basement/foundation needs. I had two other companies come out. The first two companies stated I needed 25,000-30,000 worth of work completed. Denis at Avon Lake Plumbing was the only one who stated that the work was completed but just simply needed a few extra things. He was upfront, honest, and kind. Denis, Paul, and Kristen have been great to work with and I will be contacting them for all my future plumbing needs!
