We were very pleased with Richard Koontz. He was very professional and knowledgeable. Everyone at ABend is very easy to talk with and seems willing to help.

See the pictures below. Upon discovering that my water heater burst, I immediately called ABEND Services (5:30AM) because of my prior positive experiences with them. They answered the phone and had a technician out to my home before 8:30AM. They sized up the problem and went into action. They were meticulous in making sure all details were being addressed. Especially getting the new water heater down the stairs and they old one back up the stairs with no damage to my property. You can see in the pictures the installation very well done. They cleaned up afterwards. It was like they were never here. Don't skimp on what's important. Call the best. I did.

I had a slow leak in my toilet that was starting to come through the kitchen ceiling—stressful to say the least! I called Abend Services and they came out the very next day. From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. Communication was clear and timely, and the technician was friendly, professional, and took the time to thoroughly explain the issue and how it would be fixed. They diagnosed the problem quickly and were completely transparent throughout the process. I truly appreciate the excellent service and peace of mind. Highly recommend! EDITED TO ADD: they saved the day again. Our house was built in 1954, so there are bound to be things that come up. I woke up to water coming from under my stove. Called Abend at 4:37 AM and Katie answered. Richie and Mike were here a few hours later. Showed me what needed to be done and what the price would be before they started and they were done within an hour. Abend is definitely on speed dial for this old home!

They were quick to respond and the technician was very nice. However, they were unable to clear the clog in the sewer line. I understood that, but they never followed up and 2 emails were sent. They only responded to 1 of the email, otherwise they ghosted us. We hired another local plumber who did the work needed to repair the sewer line.

Worst experience ever. Did one hours work and wanted to keep a $1,500 down payment. Court ordered to pay $1,200 months ago. Still pussy footing around. Do not use them!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This is by far the most unprofessional and predatory plumbing company I’ve ever dealt with. Every plumber they sent (except the owner, more on him later) spent more time trash-talking their coworkers than actually working. That should’ve been the first red flag—if they don’t respect their own team, why would they respect customers? They even left tools at my property and never came back for them. That about sums up their work ethic: sloppy, careless, and not worth what they charge. Instead of investigating the issue, they jumped straight to diagnosing the most expensive repair possible. It was clear they cared more about padding the bill than fixing the problem. Their septic tank “repair” was a disaster—they used quick-rotting chains and connectors no professional would ever use, and even reused broken parts. Unsurprisingly, just 32 days later, the same problem returned. I finally called a real septic company, who fixed everything in one visit. When I tried to get them back, they sent someone unqualified, who admitted he only installs new motors. He nearly made things worse by setting the motor on the tank floor (where it would fail again), instead of on the original block. Instead of being honest and saying “we can’t handle this,” they cut corners, did dangerous work, and charged premium prices. When the mess finally reached the owner, I expected accountability. Instead, I got empty promises, lies about follow-ups, and no real effort to make things right. They ignored my calls, voicemails, and texts. I was patient and cordial, but they clearly had no intention of resolving the issue. The lack of integrity runs straight to the top. From my experience, their business model is simple: push new equipment installations instead of repairs. They act like experts, but they’re pushy salespeople pretending to be plumbers. They’ll blame “incompetent” coworkers, claim everyone else uses cheap parts, and talk a big game—while doing cheap, sloppy work themselves. Exhibit A: My house is less than 2 years old, and during a visit, the plumber called the office (the owner’s wife answered). I overheard her say, “change out the rods in the heater.” The plumber admitted I didn’t need it—the water was clean, and the heater was too new to require that. They were literally trying to sell me unnecessary work. So why did I keep calling them over the course of a year despite the red flags? Because I believe in second chances, and they were fast to respond. But responsiveness means nothing if the work is predatory, deceptive, and incompetent. The whole bunch is rotten. In short: they don’t fix mistakes, they cover them up. They’ll exploit emergencies, charge professional rates for unprofessional work, and then ghost you when their “repairs” fail. Stay far, far away.

Abend has been a reliable company for my husband and I thus far. We recently purchased a house (early 2022) and we’ve have a few issues come up with plumbing (2 different frozen pies that bursted) and HVAC (our unit is a little older). We’ve had to make multiple calls to them for various reasons, and they are always able to get us scheduled within a couple of days. They have been the most flexible company by far and was even extremely understanding and flexible when discussing financial constraints. They could have easily turned down the job, and I truly appreciated that they didn’t. The staff are always friendly, especially John, Katie and Jessica. I feel they truly have our best interest at heart. It is important to note that despite our HVAC system being a little older, John has and always done his best to troubleshoot and find solutions to keep the system running. I’ve never felt pressured to replace the entire system and he does an amazing job answering all of my hundreds of questions. He even takes the time to educate us on the system and its issues so that we can be informed. Additionally, we have joined their membership program which has some great perks. We get discounts on every service and it includes seasonal inspections/check ups. I highly recommend!

This was after a heavy snowfall here in MD. We noticed a gas leak and called the fire dept. They came out, found the leak and shut off our gas. We were referred to Abend Services, and I called to hopefully get same-day service (knowing these kinds of things might take days due to high demand). Jess was amazing, told me that she will send someone here to check out the leak same day. Dustin and Joe showed up and they were professional and definitely understood our worries. They made a thorough check of all the gas lines and because it was late, capped the leak location (the stove) (thankfully the leak was not at the heating system), and turned our gas on to have heat!! we scheduled a follow-up appointment, and they said they will make sure everything is 100% before leaving. I am thankful for their time, help and concern for not having heat. Great service and definitely will use them again!

We had a new HVAC system installed in June. At about 8:00 this morning, all the smoke alarms went off in our house simultaneously & we smelled something burning. I called the company that did the installation and, long story short, found out they were only in business for 8 months to take advantage of Empower Maryland Funds. BGE told me to call either an electrician or HVAC tech. I know ABEND from networking groups & know they do everything, and I'm so glad I called them. Jessica was so kind & compassionate. She did some digging for me & then squeezed us into the schedule so we wouldn't have to pay an emergency fee over the weekend. John came out within 3 hours, diagnosed the source of the problem quickly & explained what happened. Huge relief there was nothing actually wrong, another long story. ABEND will be my first call from now on for any home maintenance issues.

Had a sewage emergency on Easter weekend, called the team at Abend on the day of Easter and Katie/Jessica answered within seconds with pure professionalism even during a holiday. In addition, they listened to every detail I provided, was told that they are scheduled out until Thursday but still managed to make a time window for our emergency the very next day (Monday). Justin and Joey arrived well before their time window and really took their time in looking everything before making any decisions on what to do. Furthermore, both of them were super communicative and very straight forward. They found the problem, fixed it, and in the end cleaned up all areas within the house and outside. High recommend this company and team as they are patient and very dedicated to ensuring the job is 110% done. P.s price can’t be beat by any of these well known corporations. - Zhen

We had a sump pump that stopped working the other day and a basement full of water. I called a 24 hour company and just got the run around. I called Abend this morning and they were at my house by 1:30. Dustin text me before he arrived and couldn't have been any nicer. He was very professional and explained everything to me and provided an estimate upfront. He took his time and even showed me the old sump pump he took out. I am so happy with the quick service and professionalism from this company. I didn't know if I was going to have it fixed by the time it rained again. I would recommend Abend to anyone who has to have any plumbing work done. Thank you again Dustin for being so nice and helping me get this fixed right away. My dog even liked Dustin and he was kind to her. So I know he is a good guy🙂. I will call them again if needed. Keep up the good work.

It seemed to be a "Mission Impossible" with my furnace fan blower motor repair. Abend techs took on the mission. Believe it or not my furnace was only 12 years old and the manufacturer's part was no longer available. With the patience of a Saint, John, did an amazing job, of searching for a compatible part. The office staff, Jessica especially became a sympathetic listener, as well as an up to date informer of status, with the holidays, times, shipping, receiving of part. I was never left in the dark. John never gave up on us having a working furnace. The estimate that was given, not knowing furnace part no longer available, was STILL the amount that was paid. No additional charge. John was a true professional. He found the part and we HAVE HEAT! ABEND, is a teamwork for satisfaction company. Truly the business to call. Many thanks.

I couldn't believe how fast they were to get out for a service call and install. I had a leaky faucet and decided it was time to upgrade the whole kitchen sink along with an RO system. I tried my best to buy a system that was drop-in and fairly easy to work with aside from converting the old double basin drains to the new single basin. Within minutes of arrival they were off and on their way to knocking the job out. I couldn't say no. It really was only a few hours and the job was completed. I appreciate how fast and thorough they were. I didn't price shop since I was in need ASAP and they were the first to answer, so they win. I can't confirm or deny if I received a good deal, but it's nice to be upgraded and not have to think about the job anymore. I would call for more work in the future when needed.

I needed my thermostat replaced, so I reached out to Abend Services. I spoke with Jessica. She was very nice and knowledgeable. This company was refreshing. The gentleman Dustin, who replaced my thermostat, was great. He showed up on time and was very professional. What really made me decide that this would be my go-to company for any heating and plumbing problems was when Dustin asked me before he gathered his tools. Ms. Murphy. Is there anything else I can help you with before I leave? I was shocked, honestly. This is the first time a contractor seemed generally concerned about if I was okay. So I'm happy to say. I'm not worried about any more problems because I got people.

Abend has impressed me with their professionalism, compassion and suburb service. I have used them several times in the past year and have only been more and more impressed. What stands out in my mind is the morning we were preparing to leave for a 10-day vacation and I just happened to go to the basement and found a water pipe had worn and was pouring water into the basement. I called and explained my situation and they could not have been more sensitive. In a matter of hours the problem was fixed and we were off to our carefree vacation. Can you find a service like this? I recommend Abend to everyone I know that tells me about plumbing concerns.
