Dominic went above and beyond today. He came over to check out our tankless water heater and also took a look at one of bathroom sink filters. He changed the screen out for me because he happened to have one in his truck. Great family owned business. We plan to use them to install our new tankless water heater.

Olen and Anthony did an amazing job this morning fixing a break in our main water line to our house. Both were very professional and did their jobs quickly but well to get our house back to where we had water. I cannot recommend them enough.

My home is pre-plumbed for water softener. 1st Home & Commercial Services came out and gave me an estimate for hooking up the water softener, which was very nice of them to do. However, they wanted over $1,200. No, that doesn't include the water softener! He said they charge $255 per hour. Sounds more like what a tax attorney would charge. Even if I was willing to pay $255/hour, it should only take a couple of hours to hook up anyway. I bought the water softener at Lowe's, so I'm going through them. It'll be $250 plus $40-$120 for parts. I was only getting other estimates because I thought $250 sounded a bit high for a pre-plumbed hook up job. If 1st Home & Commercial Services can explain why it takes 4 hours and $1200 to hook up my $400 water softener when my house is already pre-plumbed for it, I'll gladly amend this review.

Be careful. 15 minute job was quoted $150 to $ 250 to connect an ice maker line. Find an independent plumber you can trust . Why pay for an office full of dispatchers !

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Paid $550 to have them come "clean" my AC unit. Didn't check any airflow, showed me before/after pictures of the unit and looked at my Nest thermostat and left. Low and behold a few hours later; my house isn't being cooled to 72 degrees as it had been set, it's now slowly creeping towards the 80 degree mark. The worst part is when I called them to explain my issue and see if they could come back out (business is literally a mile or two from my house); I was told no technicians. Ok, that's understandable, but when I asked if fees could be waived for not fixing my AC unit the first time and coming out the next morning, I was greeted with hostility. I believe it was something like, "I'm sorry what? I can't do that, unbelievable.", I am then put on hold for upwards of 10 minutes with no explanation.... I eventually hung up the phone and when I called back, got the same person, albeit a bit nicer saying they were calling technicians for me... Interesting, couldn't have mentioned that when you aggressively put me on hold with no explanation. Also, nothing was mentioned about any sort of fees for the upcoming visit. Definitely cancelling any sort of maintenance contract with them after that experience. And now another day wasted where I have to wait around for them to come. PASS... UPDATE: 4 Days Later... AC has begun not cooling again. Another call to the company, can't send anyone out today of course. So after 3 visits, 1st being the initial "diagnosis", the next being the 4th, they still haven't fixed the problem. Didn't know fixing AC was like playing horseshoes or bags, just throw something at it and hope it works, who cares if it takes them 4 times to fix it. My electric bill is considerably higher than it's ever been. Oh well, live and learn I suppose. And what have we learned today? Not to use 1st Home & Commercial Services.... UPDATE July 16th, 2019: Feel like it's just due diligence to update this review now. Cancelled my maintenance contract so I am only minus $400 dollars and no working AC, guess that's better than $550. So after their 4th visit to my house, they finally determined there was a giant crack in between a vent/furnace in my attic and basically all my cold air was leaking out... SO WHY DID IT TAKE 4 TIMES TO FIND THIS??? I have no idea. Again, it's cost a lot in time (mine and the companies) and energy (bills) for them to determine this. I asked if the tech could send me the pictures he took in my attic, and he said he would send a quote. July 17th, 2019: Finally received the quote at noon, $370.00 to repair a duct with aluminum tape... Hmmm, hard pass. Even if I have to pay someone double or get up there myself, it would be worth it. That's about how I feel after a week plus of this, 4 visits, and who knows how many phone calls.

Coming back for another great review FEBRUARY 2025: We've been loyal customers of 1st Home & Commercial Services for over 10 years, and they continue to exceed our expectations every time! Recently, we undertook a bathroom renovation in our home—a space originally built in the 1930s and last remodeled in 2008 by a DIYer. The project came with its fair share of surprises, but thanks to Anthony, Dominic, Ray, and Reed, everything was handled with expertise and professionalism. They managed to fix old cast iron pipes, repipe our shower and sink, and expertly diagnose and repair issues as they arose—all without having to remove our beloved vintage bathtub. Their attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and dedication to quality work truly set them apart. A huge shout-out to the amazing office staff as well! They were incredibly responsive, efficient, and always able to accommodate our unique scheduling needs, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. If you're looking for a reliable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy team, 1st Home & Commercial Services is the best in Austin. We highly recommend them for any home or commercial project. Thank you, Anthony, Dominic, Ray, Reed, and the fantastic office team, for your outstanding service! JUNE 2024: I cannot speak highly enough about the exceptional service I received from First Home & Commercial Services. In the span of just one week, I faced two back-to-back emergency plumbing incidents, and thanks to Anthony and Dominic, both situations were handled promptly and professionally. From the moment I contacted First Home & Commercial Services, their responsiveness was impressive. Anthony and Dominic arrived on-site quickly, fully equipped and ready to tackle the issues. Their expertise and efficiency in diagnosing and repairing the plumbing problems were truly remarkable. They worked diligently to resolve both emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to my home. Anthony's attention to detail and thorough explanations gave me confidence in the solutions they provided. Dominic's technical skills and calm demeanor during these stressful situations were greatly appreciated. Both professionals demonstrated a high level of dedication and customer service, which is a testament to the quality of First Home & Commercial Services. If you are in need of reliable and efficient emergency plumbing services, I highly recommend First Home & Commercial Services. Anthony and Dominic's outstanding work has earned my trust, and I will always turn to them for any future plumbing needs. Thank you, First Home & Commercial Services, for your excellent service and for having such skilled professionals on your team - this is the reason we have been utilizing your services for over 10 years.

Misleading about their massive fees and billing procedures; unprofessional office staff. Called them to come give me a quote for the repair of a commercial water heater and their response time sounded good. When they came out I was told that the "Evaluation Service Fee," was 255$, regardless of how simple the issue is. Sounded excessive, but since that usually comes with the work, I said ok. Their technician Dominic was good with his work, etc. He was able to fix the problem (even with a few complications, i.e. blew one of our fuses touching two leads together so had to run and get more; needed a tool he didn't have on his van so had to run get it, etc.). So after the work, the he said that his supervisor would not let him invoice me, which is somewhat unusual as well (and would have been nice to know upfront). Of course you try to work with everyone you want to continue doing business with, so complied in good faith. Well after paying, realized that I had been charged the full amount of the repair and then also the service fee. Since usually if I bid out a job to a company, on giving them the job they include that in the cost for the work. Maybe an oversight. Called their office and spoke with their Office Manager Jennifer, who when asked about it made it clear that she felt I was attempting to not pay them for the work done. I apologized and told her that I would like to keep doing business with them, but that the usual was to include a "Service Call" fee within the cost of the payment for providing the business. She was very clear that they did not feel they needed our business. Did not want to even let me speak to someone else, said I would have to schedule a call. No wonder they did not want to invoice me. Well point taken. I'll never work with this company again. If you are with the company reading this; please make sure that if you are going to charge an excessive service fee and not include it with the work (as is a standard in the industry) that you are making that explicit to the person who is paying. Misleading customers is unethical, and not very good business.

My AC unit was going downhill and I decided to start shopping for a new one. I had 13, yes 13, different AC/Heating companies come out and give me quotes for a complete AC/Heat system. The very last bid was 1st Home and Commercial and I almost didn't call because I was tired of it by that point but I am so glad I did. Tim Greene was the only one that was completely honest with me about the damper system I have that was not functioning properly. His bid for the top of the line American Standard unit came in slightly cheaper than any of the others for the same unit and he also saved me money on the damper system by telling me the entire thing did not need to be replaced as several of the others had said. Some said just to leave it broken. Well, this house was designed to have the damper system for efficiency so it didn't make sense to me to leave it broken. I scheduled the install and they not only showed up on time, they were friendly, polite and very informative about what they were doing. Tyler was my main installer and he was fantastic. He had injured his hand earlier in the week but still showed up to install my new system with no complaints. All of the poeple who I have interacted with and the folks in the office have been great. They went above and beyond with communications, calls, texts about arrival times, the removal of the old unit, and installation of the new one. They made sure to clean up after themselves and even cleaned up stuff other repairmen had left behind. They walked me through every step telling me what they were working on, the steps they were taking, about how long each step would take and they only took a short lunch break. They showed me how to use the new wifi thermostats, set them up and made sure I knew how to operate everything before they left. The house is nice and cool, the new unit is quieter and much more efficient than the old one. I can't thank them enough and have already recommended them to others.

Ohhh where to start with this review? I wonder what the character limit is on Yelp? This process began back in June, 2017, with a quote from 1st Home for a commercial plumbing job. One of the things quote included was for complete plumbing and installation of a water heater. Once they had delivered and "installed" the water heater, they informed me they'd forgotten to include power supply in the original bid......a water heater with no power supply is of no use, right? They could do it, they said, for an additional $700+ dollars. (incidentally, I chose to go elsewhere at that point). Fast forward a couple months later, the City of Austin plumbing inspector does not approve the permit, due to the water heater drain access not being properly installed. The company owner, Stephen Harrell actually tried to say I would have to bear the expense of the correction....I quickly let him know that I'd be doing no such thing. Well, they made an appointment and sent Dan (who by the way is very polite, punctual, and cleaned up his mess). I had understood they'd be accessing a drain that was inside the wall. At the end of the day when they finished the work I was SHOCKED to see the ridiculous solution they'd chosen to remedy the problem. Upon expressing my dissatisfaction I was told "this was the only way the City will approve it". Hopefully I can post a picture to this review. They ran a pipe through the bathroom wall leading down the wall (on the other side) and into the employee breakroom sink. That was 10/4/2017, today is 10/9/2017 and I've yet to receive a call to schedule another inspection. No surprise there given the void of customer service and snarky attitude of the owner. As a courtesy, I did text the owner a picture of their "finished" product, to which I received no reply. I don't like giving reviews like this but hopefully this with spare someone the aggravation and expense it's costing me. I would NEVER hire this company again.

Extremely expensive. See the breakdown below. I paid 45$ for the consult and was shocked at the quote so I decided to shop around. The labor to fix the control issue was $500. And quoted $2400 to replace entire heater. They say their quality is good but I am not one to comment on that. All I got was a quote from them. I ended up doing the install myself for 33% of the cost. Here is their breakdown compared to homedepot. You can judge for yourself. 1st plumbing- Water heater: $1100 Rheem 40 gal short Expansion tank: $250 Drip pan : $140 Reroute drip pan: $170 Replace supply line and valve: $220 Replace gas line and drip leg: $150 City inspection: $260 Homedepot prices for parts only- Water heater: $419 Rheem 40 gal short Tank: did not need replacing. If did $50 Drip pan: $20 Reroute: $10 Replace supply line: did not need replacing Replace gas line: $20 Drip leg: replacement not needed $30 Labor (pro plumber friend): $300 The drip pan replacement was enough to cause me to write this review. $20 pan installed for $310. It is literally just an aluminum pan. I then noticed they stated they needed to replace the supply line and valve due to a leak. However the leak they pointed out was on the hot water supply. Not the water supply which he stated needed to be welded in and new valve replaced. I had a plumber friend look at it and said it is 100% good. It just needed a new gasket to stop the leak it had at the connection to the tank. They scared me with the expectation I needed new pipes, welding, and there were gas codes which my house was not up to code on. Many specialty services a plumber would do. However there was no welding needed and a gas line was 100% to code. Other quotes also were high from other companies. In the range of $1400-1800 but do not be fooled. Do your research. If uncomfortable with install buy all parts and hire the installation labor separately.

This company is very professional and I would highly recommend them. I was kept informed about the arrival of the technician and who would be replacing my hot water heater. Lee Owens, the technician was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and was very professional. Should I have a need for a plumber in the future I would ask for Lee to do the job. Overall experience was highly satisfactory! My gas heater passed with flying colors when the City of Austin inspected it. I would again highly recommend this company and Lee Owens to anyone! I'm adding to this review as I just had a plumbing problem resolved. My technician Daniel Martin was very professional and efficient. He solved my problem in a timely manner and at a fair price. Mr. Martin came earlier than expected which is a plus! I would highly recommend this company. Adding another review for plumbing problems. My technician Reid diagnosed the problem, explained everything regarding repairs, gave a fair estimate for the work to be done. Arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and experienced. I have only experienced excellent service with this company and would highly recommend them. My technician Reid has gone far and above my expectations. I am thankful for his knowledge and concern to meet my plumbing needs. Would highly recommend! Again Reid solved another plumbing problem. He is the best and again I would highly recommend this company. All the staff are helpful and efficient keeping me informed. Had to have my toilet pulled to replace flooring. Reid Lineberger solved another plumbing problem. He found that the value to turn off the water was leaking which I would have never known. He replaced it and now I don't have the worry of a leak. I would highly recommend Reid for all plumbing needs.

They sent a plumber out last summer, Dominic, and I was very impressed with his patience in explaining his work. I like to learn and be able to do things myself and like it when tradespeople talk me through the processes and such. He gave me tips on some other stuff I could do myself around here to not have to hire a plumber, which is wonderful since he's honest and talking himself out of his own work! I finally had my ancient water heater expire and I looked at replacing it myself or with some buddies. I decided to go the professional route in looking at it extensively, after a trip to Home Depot I went ahead and got a free quote from the company they contract to and when the fellow arrived he struck me as quite shady and not trustworthy at all. Showing me the prices and such he had written down but wouldn't let me take a photo of the page?! Arguing with me about the rebate program from the gas service here, etc. Was reticent to explain much to me also. I skipped out on 0% financing through HD, a cheaper (-700 or so) job quoted to get Dominic back in here to do the work. While 1st Home ended up being more, I know the unit is better, the work was top notch, he and his cohort, Anthony, explained everything, quoted me that morning and started the work that day! He allowed me to get a lot of good information which ultimately saves me a ton of money doing the simple things myself, and the job and unit and service were stellar! No regrets and I finally found a plumbing company I can recommend and keep in the old Rolodex when the next thing crops up I can't handle myself. Great working with these folks! Front desk, on time, plumbers, gear, the install finish work, all great. I hope I don't have to call them back anytime soon but I'll be glad they're there when I need it!

AUSTIN TEXAS NOT CALIFORNIA I purchased a water heater from this company in 5/16/2016 for 1,780.00, and the water heater started to leak. It was under warranty, but it took over two months to find out that these guys do not really warranty anything. In fact what they do is say they are giving you credit for the water heat, but wanted to charge me $2,000.00, well to be exact I was told $2,051.07. Now here is the issue, first of all the time it took them to attempt to resolve my issue was horrific, but on top of that they told me all parts needed to be replaced on top of the water heater. Those parts would include the pan, over $177.00 and the expansion tank to name a few. Both of these parts are less then 6 years old and should be able to be reused. Then I tried to figure out why it would cost me more money to do a warranty exchange, then what I spent for the original install. The original install included a water heater, expansion tank, drain pan, trip charge, diagnostic, flood strip, and a ball valve modify the T&P all for $1,780.00. Now they want to charge over $2,000.00 to install a warrantable water heat (so no cost) and all the parts again I listed above except the flood strip. SO that would mean that the labor to install a water heater would be around $1,350.00, where as in 2016 it $447.90 per their invoice. If you want to spend a lot of time and money these are the guys for you. I ended up telling them that I will just buy another water heater and do it my self. Not to mention the warranty they give you is the same warranty u can get on a water heater at home Depot or Lowes for half the price, but they will tell you the water heater you buy from them is much better. What a joke, I will never do business with them again.

I am very disappointed with the plumbing done by 1st Plumbing Services. We had them over to fix a cracked pipe, and showed them the area in our front lawn where there was a lot of water and we assumed the crack was at. It was easily accessible about a yard from the sidewalk. The water was running over the sidewalk. They told us it would be $475 just for them to find the crack. Seeing that we thought it was kind of easy to locate I thought this was a large amount but told them to go ahead because I just wanted it done. However, I came out awhile later after they had done some digging and they had told my husband that they were almost sure that the leak was coming from beside the house and that they needed to tear up my redwood mulch and bushes landscaping. Obviously I wasn't excited about this option but went ahead and agreed since they were so sure that was where the leak was and we needed it fixed. After hours of digging, and butchering my landscaping, and the dirt they were digging up wasn't even soaking wet like the original location we showed them. They decided it wasn't there. 3 or 4 hours later they go back to the original location we showed them, easily accessible by the sidewalk, and find the crack in the pipe is there. Now my lawn looks horrible, and they replanted the bush they dug up but it doesn't look like it has enough roots to survive. They didn't offer us any discount for the fact that it looks like a natural disaster went through our lawn. I would never use this company again. We paid $686 for them to destroy our lawn in 5 hours, for a job that an experienced plumber could have done in 1 hour. I will say they did try their best to fix the messes that they made, but unfortunately we will have to do some work.
